Date filmed: Today, 20 August 2024. INFO: The King’s Life Guard The King’s Life Guard is conducted by soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted The King’s Life Guard here since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660. The ceremony has remained mostly unchanged for over 350 years. Changing of The King's Life Guard The ceremony of changing of the King’s Life Guard starts at 11am with the Old Guard formed up on Horse Guards Parade. As the New Guard arrives, a trumpeter sounds a royal salute and the officer salutes. The New Guard forms up facing the old one. Once both lines are still, the corporal major, senior non-commissioned officer and sentries of the New Guard (the first relief) rein back their horses and leave for the guard room to take over their duties, which lasts for 48 hours. The sentries from the Old Guard return to the parade ground and the entire Old Guard returns back to barracks. When the monarch is in London, there is a ‘long guard’ consisting of an officer, corporal major (who carries the regimental standard), two non commissioned officers, a trumpeter and 10 troopers. When the monarch is away, the guard is reduced to two non-commissioned officers and 10 troopers known as a ‘short guard’. Whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties. TIMINGS OF DUTIES The Guard Change currently takes place on: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am. The two iconic soldiers on horses that mount duty on Whitehall at the entrance of Horse Guards change on the hour every hour from 10am until 4pm. This ensures that, regardless of the time you choose to visit the museum, you are guaranteed a captivating spectacle of ceremonial duties in progress. The King’s Life Guard is the name given to the guard duty performed by The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. It dates from 1660 when The Life Guards mounted a permanent guard at the entrance to Whitehall Palace. Responsibility for mounting the guard alternates between The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals. An inspection at Hyde Park Barracks decides which ‘relief’ a soldier will do: the smartest will carry out his duty on his horse and the least well turned out will do longer duties on foot. The guard then rides to Horse Guards via Hyde Park Corner, Constitution Hill and The Mall. - Information above is according to householdcavalry.co.uk/museum/blog/the-kings-life-guard/ - Have you ever visited the Household Cavalry Museum? This guard on the left royally screwed up!! 36:17 - She let one woman touch the horse, and let several more that followed! That's all it takes! Let one person and they'll all take advantage, and even more so because the guard is allowing them to break the so-called "rule" and not saying anything. They need guards that will obey the rule themselves, and that can actually enforce the "rule" to be out front! Otherwise, it's just more embarrassment for the troopers. / 46:05 - Very well done by this guard!! He needs to train the one on the left! Can you imagine people that were allowed to touch the horse on the left, are now being told no, and rightfully so, by the guard on the right? No wonder people are confused!
It's frustrating to watch when some guards let other guards or even the police officers down when they allow tourists to break the no touch rule. I do stop watching when the guards don't enforce the rule.
@@missjoannef4768 It's got nothing to do with me being "ignorant." I have absolutely never seen or heard of a new "rule" being implemented in the ranks of soldiers, and then leaving it up to the individual soldiers as to whether or not they want to follow or break the rule. They are supposed to be an army that works in unison. But if it's up to some to say no and obey the "rule," and others to say yes and break the "rule," how are they ever going to be a cohesive group? This one rule that is so easy to enforce, by just speaking up, has divided the army. That just makes them look like they don't know what they are doing.
@@Kimberly-dn4mc Excuse me but soldiers follow ORDERS. Were they given orders.????? Where is it documented that there is and ORDER for the Troopers????? The "rule" is a caution/notice to tourists, show me the ORDER given to the Troopers.
If this Trooper don't obey the rules, how do you expect the tourists to obey. When you allow one person to disobey and touch the horse, everyone looking on thinks they can do the same thing. Take off the Troopers who allows the rules to be broken. It does not set a good president for all the other Troopers who have to work harder at enforcing the rules.
Why is the guard letting these tourist touch & pet the horse?? Clearly, there are new signs being ignored. The Guard needs to speak up loudly and protect the horse from constant man-handling! So what’s the deal?? If they’re afraid to speak up, get them off the horse and put a proper guard up there.
Why are these guards not upholding the new signs? The should be reported for allowing the people to ABUSE the horses, it's cruel and should be stopped.
If there are guards who behave against the new official rule, they should be dismissed! Because they are soldiers, not ordinary workers! They're disobeying orders!
@@damyoung7923 No, you think. Half the Troopers in both Life Guards and Blues are being discretionary. They can be seen on camera. Where is it documented that the Troopers were given ORDERS????? Just Think!!
@@missjoannef4768 Is it too difficult for you to understand? Without the official decision, they can't put the new rule on the wall! Because it's a military facility! Do you want the document about it? Ask them!
@@missjoannef4768 i dont but if the signs are there they should be enforced. On one side the guard wasnt allowing the tourists to touch, the other side the guard alliwed and said nothing. This can be confusing to the toursist. If everyone agrees with no touch all guards and troopers must and should comply
Most of the guards act like there afraid to say anything,I hate watching the videos anymore it all seems like one big scam to make money,I say that is animal abuse on the horses .So so sad.
