What a crazy hand to analyse! Considering the suitation - after all a huge position in the tourament is at stake for both players - there is so much nerve involved in making that call. Credit to the big blind as well

What if you don't know you are calling for your tournament life, because... I dunno.... maybe you misjudge the depth of your opponent's stack, because he's hidden his big chips behind his small ones? What do you advise then?

To me this looks like a clear fold, unless you KNOW that the villain is a total maniac. I mean let's face it, the only way the assumption "opponent always bluffs here" is correct is if he is a very bad player and a maniac. This is not about playing at a higher level type of a bluff, that would not have happened "every time".

I would call in that spot 80% of the times. He had more bluffs in his range than value hand. The only value hand he would bet like that would be 6 7 of diamonds. So I would call there majority of the times.

Hi Alex, great video! Question: I know the BB can have a large range on the flop, but when he bet into 2 people on the turn, would you expect him to have some equity when bluffing? When you run the number to get 65%, did you include all combos he would defend preflop, or only semibluffing hands like 45, JQ, 9x, 8x?

Describing this as hero call, I rather to say this is absolutely a gamble from the beginning. 1) Call with T9o vs UTG and almost definitely that BB will defend with such a good pot odds, T9o with multi way pot, I really don't see any value and this is purely gamble. 2) Check on flop I believe it is only the whole hand correct play and trying to play small ball which require higher level of experience. What if a 9 of hearts appear on turn or any hearts appear on turn? Although hero hits 2 pair if 9 appear, I couldn't imagine how many combo have hit on turn. Hero putting himself in a difficult situation because of the gambling attitude started from the preflop. 3) Calling the turn to me is already another mistake. Unless a 10 on the river, otherwise I really don't see hero hand have enough value to go for showdown. So far with 50bbs on stake and losing 2bbs with 48bbs left, just wait for a better spot in tournament. Tournament are not only about winning chips, it is also about how you preserve your chips. 4) Calling the river is absolutely gamblers call. There are way too many over bet pot in today high level of poker and it didn't surprise me at all if someone bet huge for value to disguise his hand and let opponent think that they are bluffing. Secondly, Hero didn't even have a single card to at least act as a blocker on villain ranges at all to make this hero call. 5) I only agree hero is totally a gambler. I think villain played great instead of hero although he loss the pot. Check on flop which most BB does, semi bluff on turn, 5 of hearts also 56s 57s act as blocker on the river because it is so obvious that hero doesn't have any K there or any flush draw because no aggressive on turn and villain highly likely to lose the pot only to a Ten which is hero holding. Unfortunately, villain met a hero gambler.

The problem with bluffs is that you never know if they are bluffing until it reaches the showdown. I'm about to go in my 2nd tournament ever tonight. Very low stakes. I never play with more than I can afford to lose. But I find a hard time against people who are pressing all in preflop. My strategy is to mitigate this by only calling when I know I have a good hand preflop and hoping for the best. But generally I try to avoid these 'coin toss' situations altogether. I think I could be more aggressive but generally I am the one at the table who might not win the most hands but I often win the biggest pots. Any advice for me tonight?
@seanwintersax
@seanwintersax 5 лет назад
I got 6th out of 32. As good as I could have hoped for. I said "If I get to the final table and get knocked out, I'll be happy." I beat the guy who took a couple big hands from me so I got a small success. Made a hero call with QA suited. Had him beat until he hit the straight on the river. Lost 25K (Buy in is 10 bucks for 10,000). Still got past him and made it to the final table. If I had won that hand I probably would have gotten to the final table with the largest stack but a las. It was the right call and I got burned on the River.

I'd like to see him make an analysis without knowing the villain's hands. Just give him the information regarding the stack sizes, each player's characteristics, level in the tournament, action preflop, flop, etc, then come up with a few possible hands villain has and then make a final decision. Shit.. I could do the same analysis knowing what everyone is holding.

Hi Alec, good analysis as usual. A quick question. If the opponent is playin an optimal GTO strategy, he shows up on the river with [1 - (120/325)] = roughly 65% value bets and 35% air. So if your equity is 65% and above vs his entire range, you can then justify calling. is that what you are saying? your vids have been super informative. pl keep up the good work

Not only wouldnt I make that call, but I dont think its possible that I could make that call. The board is way too messy and we dont even have top pair. A tourney is all about survival. You cant win if youve busted out. Glad it worked out for Hero, but I would have laid down my cards and moved to the next hand.

He never has a king here? I don't know what tournaments he is playing but the ones I play (normally 100 and under online) the villain could have literally anything here. To risky to make the call for me 50 bb deep. If your deep in the tournament thats a healthy stack. Just can't get onboard with this call even if Torelli were to have 1 billion in mtt cashes because he obviously is not playing the same tournaments I am.
