Hello Steve. I'm watching here in Australia. I really like your channel. In our road laws here, we have to place orange traffic cones at the offside of the vehicle if we're going to be doing something on that side. Not that it's going to stop somebody from being stupid, but it's interesting to see how all the regulations around the world differ.

Effin brilliant Steve. I'm 50 and have been around artics since I was 5 when the article aka "father" got his first, a 19t Bedford TK pulling a single axle 40ft Freuhauf stepframe carrying boats, and drove them myself for 28 years (including 9 years as a big ole owner driver, 7 years of it in a lhd 6x2 V1 FH16 (long story, but best truck I ever drove)) prior to quitting due to mental health issues. Although I have no intentions of returning to that life, I still love watching your videos and similar stuff. In all that time, I never saw or did a better reversing manouvre, despite experiencing plenty of tight blindsiders and plenty of practice sessions etc. Utmost respect. Cheers :-)

I enjoy watching your videos soo much. It’s amazing how much experience and skills you have to be brave enough to drive this vehicle combination. I think it’s fine to reverse a trailer (I have my truck license since 3 months) but here you have to angles where this combination turns, don’t you? Do you have a technique how to reverse with your manual transmission? Because I thought your clutch would be on fire by reversing that heavy truck with a lower speed? You have my highest respect

Great job Steve. That tow being 90ft long is very impressive but not as much as the reverse. Bit frustrated for you having had it in the 'correct' place to start with only to have to do it again. Can't even think about how you reverse something with effectively two articulations in it. Bad enough car and trailer sometimes. Thanks for sharing.
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 2 года назад
Thanks James for watching, needed the practise.
@beeble2003
@beeble2003 Год назад
The theory is that you think about which way the towed unit would need to turn to push the trailer where it's supposed to go, then use the tow truck to push the unit that way. Actually doing that in practice, twice, and nailing it both times, requires Steve-level driving.

Just started to watch your video Steve. However, I'm surprised, for safety reasons, that you don't use cones around the vehicles, so you can work in safety. Those vehicles travelling past you, seem to be a little too close for comfort. Altogether Steve, a brilliant piece of driving

My transporter had to be recovered from the Dartford area and dragged back to the North East. The A19 was full .of width limited works and the A1 closed for roadworks near Durham. Not ideal in the dark, thankfully I was empty but the diversion was heading for a spot I knew was going to be a bit rough if we had to head that far. The only other time I've been hitched up I started with 12 cars on and it was never going to work (a smidge over 16 foot and hardly any turning gap from unit to trailer), that was a couple of hours with the hand pump to shift the decks about getting shot of most of the load.

Hi Roy thanks for watching, you can tell what side diff lock is on by the wiring and air pipes going that side of diff. We remove the half shaft opposite to that as a rule , unless unsafe to do so then pull diff side half shaft out , but can be bugger to refit sometimes.

Volvo Reading looks like Volvo Burgess Hill...zero room!! Funny your on the car transporters Steve,saw one of yours hooking up a car transporter just past ASDA at Burgh Heath on Thursday. Great vid as always,one question (probably a stupid one) why don't you use the trailers electrics from your truck for the rear lights and just put your number plate on,alot more visible than a tailer board. I know those lights are wireless as I have a set. Keep the videos coming,really interesting. Stay safe.
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 2 года назад
Thanks Neil for watching, normally plug into trailer electrics on longer journeys , but with this wagon and drag set up they dont have regular 7 pin plug which runs lighter wiring, so decide to use wireless trailer for speed really.Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for watching John , we can only lock the undelift when in stow position with a pin . Normally we dont get to reverse artics very often so always a challenge where customers want them parked up. I tend to pull further forward to straighten the unit and trailer before i reverse and just small turns on steering wheel, to try and keep it all in line.

@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve cheers. I find hard enough reversing while towing a harvey frost and car hanging off the back. But this is normally in the service area of a motorsport paddock. Have a good 2023. Cheers john

Thanks for watching , most dealerships in the south have very little space , some dont except trailers so we end up taking trailers somewhere else and just recover the units in.

I don;t understand why the signage such as company name is copvered along with number plates. IT's sat on a public road, with hundreds of public driving past that see it all every day.

Thanks for watching , i know what you saying, but companies just dont want their vehicles to been seen to be unreliable being towed by a wrecker. It really limits what i can film in a week but got to keep everybody happy thanks for commenting.

Hello Steve great video's. Just a little idea instead of using a lot of tape and wasting a lot of time why don't you get some magnetic sign plates to cover up people's information and number plate covers
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 2 года назад
Hi Branan, thanks for suggestion, i have got some magnetic signs to cover up on metal doors but could do with plate covers as you say, thanks for watching.

Could the trailer have been left in the lay-by for collection later ?

Hy Steve great vid as always recovering the breakdowns, could you possibly put the camera on the wing mirror when manoeuvring a truck and trailer in to dealerships or depots, so viewers get a better prospective of what you face on a daily basis, and also maybe a view from the opposite side of the road when pulling round in to the dealership or depot, if obviously safe to do so, if u have to jump out and survey the turning in to the final destination

Hi Dave thanks for watching and commenting. Thanks for suggestions Dave would like to get another camera to do that as the channel hopefully grows.

With all that hammering how often do you have to replace that steel cap ?
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve

Thanks for watching , half shaft took some hammer as seized on probably never been off from factory , only surface marked be fine,

May I ask why you did not take the trailer off and have another truck that drives pull that in instead? Seems like you'd be a lot shorter that way.
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve Год назад
Hi Marti , yes if company had a spare car transporter truck free to couple up to trailer but very unlikely as they always coupled together.

Hi Ben , you need a class 1 licence to start with bit of mechanical knowledge and can do attitude then give it a go.There's a shortage of heavy drivers so i would give you local recovery company a call nothing to lose, tell them you seen my videos lol. Seriously good luck , they will expect to do few weeks of training inhouse before you get sent on recovery training courses run by IVR.
