I love these men . Duke definitely listens to Chanel and i bet they have good conversations because he always comes with that wisdom and not saying he can’t have these thoughts by himself but it shows they have great intentional conversations ,Jalon and Omar too. I enjoy listening to them and I’m very open to hearing their perspectives because they are so respectful and play devils advocate which i love. I love how they always want to problem solve instead of pointing fingers . I want to problem solve too

"Toxic behaviors come from people with negative energy.. People who aren't at peace with themselves.." WHEW. Well said Omar! I definitely agree with that one.

good topic. i work in the psychology & cognitive health sphere. it’s super important to get clear on the what toxicity really is & how it shows up and affects us relationally. everything can’t be thrown into the TOXIC 🪣 bc it has an unwanted/negative affect on us, or if someone has baggage, or does things we don’t like, etc. *toxicity* stems from a negative belief system that directs our thoughts and behavior… thus negatively impacting our relational dynamics (with ourselves & others). we can’t keep throwing *this word* up against a wall & hoping it sticks to continue to dismiss away the complexities of human behavior, unresolved trauma, lack of emotional management & consequences of ineffective communication.

Ok thank you, I think Duke was trying to help clarify what the word TOXIC entails. It was not clearly established.

People who've been through stuff isnt toxic most of the time they're damage. Their behaviors stems from trauma which in return causes people to behave " subconsciously " inappropriately. It eventually becomes toxic when they are aware, it becomes a pattern and they refuse to make changes

This is why Duke is a king and a superior man. Firstly he doesn't generalise on all women second he shows understanding to women. Any man or women that starts making generalised statements about men or women needs to heal. What is it about you that attracts toxic people to the point you start generalising on a whole people. Saying negative things about women and generalising the way the host does is the same as a woman saying men are dogs. Men are not dogs ....some men are promiscuous. Likewise women are not what some of what you say they are...the women you attract because of your toxicity are ❤

Duke represents Chanel so well! His answers are very thoughtful and honest. Okay, Naija 😂👏🏾 Anyway, I think toxic (and personally I dislike this overused term), is a behavioral pattern that someone refuses to acknowledge and improve on. It’s a characteristic that applies to your way of doing things, that is harmful to any relationship.
@ButaCthing
@ButaCthing 2 года назад
Gaslighting is definitely an old term. It’s when you try to convince someone that what they know is true is false. It’s trying to contort someone else’s reality for your own personal gain. Basically trying to make someone feel crazy

Jalon... you say it's toxic for women to presume that their new partner is like their past partner who violated their trust and that that's toxic to project these things... but you turn around and says "nah, I don't think women do too much looking in the mirror beyond their looks," ... sounds like YOU dated a lot of shallow women and you're projecting that narrative onto all women. Would this happen to be the "young lady" you dated who said she was pretty enough to stand outside the club and get pulled in? Is this not the same as the woman assuming the man is shady? You don't hear your own hypocrisy? Additionally, the human brain is wired to protect us. It does everything in its power to prohibit pain from reoccurring, thus, taking precaution when a similar threat is perceived. That's not "toxic," that's human design. I suggest you look into that... and then look into the mirror yourself.

Jalon I think that was interesting talking about women’s hold men’s feeling hostage! Although I think that’s a good point I think men do a poor job of communicating the change in feelings and in my experience that’s what blurs the line.

@jeremiah dorsett no it doesn’t. Men and women shouldn’t even be focused on each other. All your efforts should be on building. Then the relationship stuff will fall in place.
@JuliaRachelle

Ok so on “baggage” everyone will forever have their “baggage” with them. I’m assuming you are referring to people who have been through trauma in the past and therefore they will bring it into the relationship, BUT that will never change. People will forever live with their traumas! You obviously can work on them daily for the rest of your life but people will forever have these issues, also depending on the level of trauma. Asking someone who’s used to a habitual liar and emotional abuser, they will not be able to trust easily when they get into a new relationship or start seeing someone, they will be on their TOES, and pull back a few times for much longer than someone who never went through something like that. I HIGHLY advise all of you to research trauma and how it effects the brain and the long terms effects it has. Gaslighting is very real and is no joke. It really fucks with people. I’m a person who dealt with EXTREME emotional and sexual abuse and I’m actively working on bettering myself and it’s very hard. People nowadays overuse these trauma terms but they still are very real and more people need to study them.
