Toxic Crusaders - The Toxic Avenger & His Mutant Pals Star in this Retro Side-Scrolling Beat 'em Up! Read More & Play The Beta Demo, Free: www.alphabetagamer.com/toxic-... #ToxicCrusaders
Note: you can't actually swap characters on-the-fly, I just edited the video that way so I could showcase the different characters in single-player mode.
@@AlphaBetaGamer I thought Major Disaster and Toxie were the same character at first. I thought Toxie just dropped his disguise. I was confused why Major had "Toxie's" vine trap attack later on.
The fact that a hard R rated movie that contained blood, gore, strong language and full frontal nudity was turned into a kids show was a delightful trend of the time. God I miss those days.
@@AlphaBetaGamer Attack of the Killer Tomatoes comes to mind. The cartoon is based on the second movie that had a pair of big talents. I made the mistake of checking the movie out for my younger sister who liked the cartoon. Whoops!
Lloyd Kaufman: "Lookin' good, boys, but can you make the bad guys explode in viscera?" Devs: "Sorry, Lloyd. It's a kid-friendly game." LK: "Can you at least put a dominatrix in it?" D: "Yeah, we can do that."
@@-RAYZ- And a Power Rangers one. Though at least G.I. Joe and Power Rangers are time honored brands. The Toxic Crusaders only lasted one thirteen episode season and died. It’s only known by people between 30-40 years old or anyone who knows this was based off of Troma’s R rated mascot. That’s why it’s so weird for it to be amongst this trend of Shredder’s Revenge likes.
@@Falcovsleon21 There actually was a NES video game release for Toxic Crusaders back in the early 90s. It was produced by Bandai in the same vein as Konami's works with the TMNT. Of course, that doesn't mean it was any good.
@@Falcovsleon21 I had 0 interest in this game because it's Toxic Crusaders but the gameplay sure won me over, because the game looks as good as Shredder's Revenge. The Gi Joe game is a missed opportunity and should've been a Sunset Riders style run & gun or a gallery shooter like the G.I. Joe arcade game.
I'm still having trouble accepting that this game is something happening so long after the cartoon and movies. Though I'm not opposed. I loved Toxic crusaders as a kid in the early 90s
@@AgentofLADONgiven we’re already either getting or already have a number of beat em ups based on classic cartoons, I hope the trend keeps going. I think we’re also getting GI Joe later. Makes me hope we get He-Man and Transformers down the line
Yeah I’m still dumbfounded we got this when Bucky O’Hare, Street Sharks and Extreme Dinosaurs were more likely candidates. ::sad that he never got that Street Sharks Final Fight clone::
@@austinmorrison6953I think not every IP should be a beatem up . Maybe plattformer action-games would be awesome too . I meam Tmnt had an metroidvania on the gameboy and it was very underrated . Maybe even more akin to ps1 amd dreamcast games would fitting too . But its just my 2 cents.
Probably helps that it’s based off of a violent B-movie franchise that’s a cult classic amongst horror buffs. And that the AVGN did an episode on the old games with Lloyd Kaufman himself.
@@alkristopher I know, it is just such a funny concept to me that something known for comical levels of exploding heads and dismemberment got a Saturday morning cartoon, then around 33 years later that cartoon gets a videogame adaptation. Hah.
Now we just need a cajun hippo man and and techbeat gorrila man that sounds like Funky Kong to be the bumbling idiots to our 'Shredder' and we're solid
Yeah, Poison from Final Fight arcade was a Transsexual character. You'd only know it if you read the sides of the arcades at the time. Some arcades had the info. 1989. Before they shoved it down your throat.
Well, this was a breath of fresh air. You don't see many light-hearted beat-em-ups anymore. Also, I don't know much about the tv show but I feel like it could legitimately make a comeback in today's age.
“You don’t see many light-hearted best-em ups anymore.” . . . What are you talking about? There’s been a whole resurggence of beat em ups coming in with titles like Streets of Rage 4, Battletoads, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, Double Dragon, etc. Like this and that GI Joe game is just continuing that trend
@@BigK13372 Light-hearted as in Cartoonishly-light much like the TMNT Shredder's Revenge. S0R4 has the villains blowing up a moving train, destroying the surrounding street, while DD Gaiden takes place after a nuclear war with humanity barely averting an apocalypse. Admittedly, I was thinking about games like Mother Russia Bleeds and Fight N' Rage. They are comedic games, FNR even has a TMNT reference, but there way more graphic and crude with their humor.
Only if they make it like the Harley Quinn show. I mean that was basically a Troma movie with DC characters. (James Gunn even cameo'd in it!) If you're gonna bring back the Toxic Crusaders you might as well aim for an older audience and let them be more Troma-like at this point. (Especially when most of us who remember this property are at least in our 30s at the bare minimum)
I had some of these characters' action figures when I was a kid 😂. 30+ years later, the show is mostly forgettable, but I do remember one bit: No-Zone gets a job painting lines in the road with his wheel foot, but he gets distracted day dreaming about his crush or something, and starts painting hearts instead. Then, Toxie drives like a maniac, trying to follow the contours of the hearts in order to obey traffic rules.
4:04 [mook pops out of the Employment Agency] "Alright! My first day on the job!" *immediately gets mop-slapped by a walking pile of green toxic waste*
Ok this is what I was hoping for. They got a lot of the characters' voices down. They got everyones personalities down. And all the silliness. And I think I heard a fourth wall break. I so want to play this. It looks so fun. And I imagine I will be laughing here & there
There's a very cool fan made one I covered a few years ago I'd recommend checking out if you can't wait for an official one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pIq0guSYAew.html
I absolutely love the Looney Tune sound effects in this game, it's so hilarious and adds to the cheese of this game. Definitely looking out for this game now.
12:25 you can see there’s Sonic’s shoes and looks like Knuckles’ quills peaking out from the ground. And the Technodrone eye from TMNT is here too. Oddly enough, the music does sound SEGA Genesis sound chip as well. The game just screams 90s and must be referencing possibly the game that was released back then too.
missed opportunity to have yvonne not beat the crap out frank for his "Ben-Dover" shenanigans from the toxic avenger movie. i mean how cool is it to have those r-rated psychopaths as cartoons in this lol they def gotta have cigar-face and apocalypse inc in this
The Steam page for the game mentions other Troma references and even makes mention of zombie chickens so that's Poultrygeist confirmed. Really just give me a boss fight with Tromie from the Nuke'm High movies and I'm pacified.
The game is looking ALOT better since we last saw it a year ago. This went from a maybe to a must buy. The work you out in shows. Also, you editing skills are too good; makes me wish for character swapping on the fly. Maybe as a post launch patch? Either way, im getting this.
Thanks! Yeah, I really wish all beat 'em ups would allow character swapping on-the-fly. It would make for a much better gameplay experience in pretty much every case. It would add a nice amount of variety and you could use them strategically.
As someone who was a troma fan + arcade player as a kid this is very cool. I'd love to see a version with the filthy look of the originals but this is good.
oh my god the game is so beautiful! even the music is upbeat! i really missed those beat 'em up game genre of the arcades! i'm definitely keeping my eyes on this game and buy it the moment it fully comes out.
okay, so from what I see in the gameplay, Major Disaster is a mighty glacier, Toxie is a jack of all stats, Junkyard is a Lightning bruiser and Yvonne is a fragile speedster
Spoiler alert it is him. That and the team who is doing the voice acting direction is indeed the Team Four Star crew. That means Lanipator and Takahara101 are also working on this. I know this because it was mention on the games Twitter. ;)

It might have been, they had Team Four Star do VA work since the original cast had voice actor royalty (The guy who plays Squidward was both Toxie and Killemoff!)
Honestly. I never really watched this as a kid too often. I didnt really like the show that much then. Still dont really like it too much now. But this. This is well done. Looks like fun and just feels the right amount of old school. I love the cartoony look and sound effects. The music is bouncy and feels good to brawl to. The visuals are great. Everything pops. The dialogue is pretty good too. THe little banter here and there kinda gives you an idea what the personalities are like. Got to give it to Toxie's Mop. That thing kicks!
My only gripe is the missed opportunity to have some of the street punk enemies be more of a "Class of Nukem High" reference instead of being so generic greasers and dominatrix cliche.
Dude! Those greasers are literally the guys Toxie killed in the first movie! Y’know the part at the taco joint where they stick the place up and shoot the blind girl’s dog?
@@Falcovsleon21 Okay, obviously it's been a while since I've seen the 1st one since it aired on G4TV years ago so I forgot that detail LOL. Still I'm thinking that mohawk wearing leader from Nukem High, but perhaps we'll see something in the full game since their a shared universe.
Toxic Crusaders needs to be revived as a franchise. The ecowarrior themes and interest in the 80s-90s trends and brands would be very popular at th moment
@@KryyssTV Only if they make it an adult action comedy series this time around. (ex: think the Harley Quinn show) Most people who remember this property are in their 30s-40s.
Quite a legend to see Toxic Crusaders come back! I have the genesis version and it was.... well.... um, anyway I hope this one will be much easier and better! :D First off I see new characters so that's a boon already! I hope the Shoot-em-up levels like the Canal and such won't be removed as those were some of my favorites there.
I can't wait for the full release, the charm and the wit from the cartoon is what drew me to the franchise. Toxie and the gang look great and the demo looks like playing an episode from said cartoon!
Major Disaster: Hammer Fist Style and Thorn Vine Explosion Toxie: Mop Version of Bojutsu Junkyard: Slaps and Spin Combos Yvonne: Kicks and Xylocord Whips.
Great, how they got Squidwards voice actor to do toxy's voice again like he did in the original cartoon! I believe they got every voice actor from the old show to reprise their Toxic Crusaders rolls again!
@@flinten7485 Actually no they didn’t. I mean you can’t really get Major Disaster’s VA back for one and two the devs already said in the Steam blurb that Team Four Star (amongst others) are doing the voices.
Why is the production value better in a Toxic Crusaders beat-em-up better than the G.I. Joe beat-em-up? You can tell the people that made this actually cared about the end product.
12:21 Anyone else notice that the Technodrome makes a brief cameo? At least the eye scanner... Now how about an Exo-Squad beat-em-up? Mummies Alive? Ooh! How about a WildC.A.T.S. remake?
I hope this was an Easy Mode. The game looks great outside of the apparent difficulty. Nice voice acting too. Hopefully Lloyd does a guest voiceover somewhere.
