Tweak I did to help get the map lights out without breaking them was to wrap duct tape around each side of the needle nose pliers, sticky side out. It helps grip the light bulb for easier removal! Awesome video!
This is by far the most easily, well explained video available. Great camera work shows exactly how to remove each lens cover without breaking them! Thanks
This video helped a lot for my 2015 4runner limited. I replaced all the interior lights knowing where to use the little pry bar tool. The only ones left are the mirror lights.
For the map bulbs, mine were in damn tight. It was so easier just to open the sunglasses holder remove 2 screws and pull down that panel. Twist the light retainer and remove the bulb without worrying about busting a bulb
Great instructions except one thing. The map lights. Just unscrew the two bolts. Then unplug the single connection cord and take your time and do it properly
I saw someone use tape to take the lights out and it worked great. Just made a tiny funnel of duct tape and secured it then pulled the light out. Cracked my first light with the pliers lol.
IF You Have Trouble,,, open sunglass case, remove two phillips stews, pull entire panel down with firm grip on both sides.. unplug electrical from roof(easy connection) bulbs twist out replace with new! SAVE TIME AND FRUSTRATION!
I own a 2019 tacoma crew cab. The two small overhead lights towards the windshield. I pressed on the left cover with my finger. My question is can those covers get broken from my finger?
So I used this video as a reference and on a 2011 4runner the center dome light that you say be careful, I broke the bulb and had glass all over, so the way it worked the best is to pull down the surrounding plastic trim from the rear facing side about 1-1/2" and twist the bulb socket out and pull out the bulb, way easier and less dangerous.
Awesome video! On the map lights, I did the same as another poster and removed the 2 screws and dropped the whole assembly. No fuss, and took less than 5 minutes. I also turned off the light switches before trying to remove the bulbs. :)
This is a great upgrade. I just bought my wife a 2020 TRD Pro, Would love to change out all of the interior with LED's. Is there a whole kit or do I need to buy everything separately?
There are two screws inside the Sun glass holder. Take those out and you can pull down the whole thing and take the bulbs out from the top. So much easier and you won’t break a bulb.
Ditch the pliers and use tape to remove hard to reach bulbs. Wear gloves. Turn off at switch and turn on after switching bulbs. Otherwise, great video.
It floors me the number of Toyota truck owners - "professionals" - that don't know the overhead center console is designed to be removed from the ceiling for bulb replacement. The bulbs come out with a quick quarter turn - from the top. Mr. Toyota designed it that way.
Right on, thanks for the tip man! We are not Toyota professionals by any means, but we are lighting experts, so any new information we can get on those vehicles is helpful! Thanks for commenting, have a great day!
Awesome presentation; methodical, logical, and precise. I went to your site to buy, but I only see Level 1 or Level 2 as the purchase options. I want to buy exactly what you recommended and installed, how?

@@m.fernandez8943 If you haven't gotten it yet, get as close as you can to the base of the bulb with a pair of smaller needle nose pliers and almost pry the bulb out instead of pulling. I did it with the size he had but I think a smaller size would work better.
Marial Fernandez im sure you got it out by now but for anyone else reading this, just pop the whole assembly out. There are two screws where the sunglass holder is and then it pops out with a little pressure near the corners by the lights. Once its out just twist the bulb housing and pull it out. You dont even have to unplug the whole assembly from the roof

Thanks for this! I studied your video the night before installation. Took me about 10 minutes total working time. I used the plastic wedge tool that came with the bulbs, yikes lol. I'll invest in one similar yo the one in your video. Btw, do you know about glovebox LED install?
Hope you still check this thread -- are there any issues if you have a mix of the standard and LED bulbs in the interior? Just want the LEDs in the puddle door lights and cargo area. Thanks!
I see a couple different year ranges on your website. I actually have a brand new 2022 4Runner but I'm guessing Toyota hasn't changed their interior bulb size. Does this kit also fit new 2022 models? Thanks.
So, the gtr lighting board is no longer available. I'm guessing that, without a proper heat sink, it was melting dome covers and an extreme fire hazard?
It is not available anymore, but not because of any heat issues. That is just a product that we didn't sell enough of to justify keeping it in stock. Let us know if you have any other questions, we are here to help! Have a great day!
What Yorkim festoon bulb will fit a 98 Toyota 4Runner? Would like to change dome, map and back hatch bulbs. "Garage" says the 31mm won't work on the 98.
My lookup guide does not give me that map light size, but I have confirmed that the dome light and rear hatch light will both be a 31mm festoon LED! If you could pull out that map light, shoot us an email with the images and we will be happy to get you set up with the correct replacement for those! 31mm Festoon LEDs: headlightrevolution.com/gtr-lighting-31mm-canbus-festoon-led-bulbs/
We have just not tested options in that vehicle, that doesnt mean that we don't have anything for you! If you email into us with your vehicle information, we would be happy to get you some recommendations!
Try a small piece of electrical tape rolled with the adhesive side in, open enough to slip over the bulb. Once over the bulb press onto the bulb and pull with slight wiggle. Works every time for me.
Map lights: It's way easier to flip down the glasses compartment and remove 2 screws holding it up and unclip 1 wire harness to access the bulbs. They are in little turn-lockers that can be easily flipped around if you happen to install the lights with the polarity reversed. So much easier that dickin' around with needle nose pliers trying to get a grip a small glass bulb....it would suck to do all that just to find out you put them in backward.
We have not tested that in house, but it should be pretty simple for you to just remove that factory bulb, and double check that it is still a halogen in that applicaiton! Let us know if you have any other questions, we are here to help!
I tried the pliers and was afraid of breaking the bulbs. The needle nose pliers kept slipping off the bulb. Also tried wrapping tape around the bulb, didn't work for me. I then used double sided tape on a pair of needle nose pliers. I trimmed the tape making a long slender triangle matching the jaws of the pliers. Bulbs popped right out with no slippage from the pliers and required less pressure insuring I didn't break the bulbs. Secondly, concerning the door puddle lights. It's much easier to disconnect the wire connection then removing the light assembly so you can see it better and work on it much easier. There's a grey plastic cover over the bulb which needs to be removed to access the bulb. I found by inserting a small flat screwdriver in the gap just below the apex of the arch of the cover and applying a little pressure the cover pops right off. After installing the new bulb and replacing the grey cover all you have to do is reconnect the wires before inserting assembly back in the door. Hope these tips help!!
We have two options! - www.headlightrevolution.com/HR-Toyota-4Runner-14-20-XB-LED-License-Plate-Lights?quantity=1 - www.headlightrevolution.com/2014-2019-toyota-4runner-license-plate-led-lights-1418T4RUNNERLED.PLATE_2?quantity=1
I did this a couple months ago and everything was good. Now the lights on the rear hatch are flashing and dimming. The bulbs seem to be seated correctly. Any ideas?
I'm guessing that even though my 4runner is an 03, if it uses any of these types of bulbs im good to go? You dont list an interior kit for my dinosaur, can you assemble one? One last question...does the 03 runner (4X4 Sport, V6, halogen reflector HL) require (reccommend) using Canbus bulbs or other power supply tech stuff? Thanks!
You are in luck, as the 5th generation 4Runner was what we used in the video! This kit was designed for that vehicle, so they will totally work for you!
@6:22 those lights for the vanity are not T10's? mine wouldn't work. 2nd problem, when trying to put them up, i launched the bulb up past the housing. where are the clips on that housing so i can remove the housing to try to fish the bulb out?
Same issue here..try rotating them around didnt work..swap left to right and vice versa didnt work either,i think the interior kit didnt come with that vanity light in the video HR pls advice
@@ninetytwohundred Yeah, mine didn't come with that bulb either. With all the different bulbs in the kit than were used in this video, I was pretty confused as to what I bought.
Here you are! This isn't the same kit, but it has tools much like it with many more options as well! Great video man! Unfortunately I shattered one of my map bulbs when trying to remove with pliers. The first one worked fine. If anyone has any advice for getting it out I would very much appreciate any guidance! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@HeadlightRevolution I had something different happen. The bulb was really tight. Some how the bulb and the base went back up in the hole. Does the overhead console come off?
For the vanity bulbs you may want to consider sticking to filament bulbs unless you can find an LED retrofit that has a decent Color Rendering Index (CRI). LED's are great for everything else but if you have a bitchy girlfriend who actually spends time on that vanity she's not going to like a low CRI bulb to apply makeup which deals with proper coloring and shading.
Don't use pliers to remove the front bulbs!!! You'll brake it. Remove 2 screws behind the glasses compartment with a Phillips screwdriver and remove the whole overhead console. The bulbs are held in a plastic socket. Twist it to remove and replace the bulbs properly and much easier. It literally takes a minute, maybe two. DO NOT USE PLIERS!.
