I think the Subaru… I mean the Toyota bZ4e will be a sales success. That badge has a huge and loyal customer base. Besides Volkswagen sales are always a hit or miss in Americaland. I had to buy one, if I were forced to buy an EV… it would absolutely be the more conventional and Germanic ‘People’s Car’. Thanks for the video and your impressions.

Yep. Brand recognition and loyalty counts a lot. I buy only Toyota and Lexus. Well may be Porsches when funding allows.

Combine the features from these two vehicles and you’d have a compelling EV SUV worth considering. Passenger power seats, range, faster onboard charging, styling and price from VW. Then heated and ventilated front seats, rear heated seats, infrared heat along with the heat pump, infotainment controls and reliability from Toyota. The black cladding is so hideous on the BZ4X while the side styling cues are so nice and clean on the ID.4.

Most important feature incorrectly mentioned here is the USA Fed tax rebate. Toyota's $7500 EV rebates ends on Sept 30, 2022, will be halved $3750 until Mar 31, 2023, then halved again $1875 till it ends on Sept 2023. At the rate of production, very few people will qualify if Toyota can even release cars before end of Sept.

Fantastic and through comparison as usual. To me the deal killer with the Toyota is the lack of memory seating position for it's driver's seat and lack of power adjustment for the front passenger. These are ok for vehicles in the 80's but it's 2022 and to omit these basic but convenient features is ridiculous. Just on this alone, I would take the ID 4.

Once again, another top notch comparison review. I love the Toyota but I'll wait for prices to come down on the used market. Thanks for explaining why there's no glove box too. Also interesting about the Canada vs USA pricing! Base model in the US is more expensive (when you convert to Canadian dollars). Canada probably gets a stripped down model (L vs XLE as base). As hosts, you're super pleasing to listen to; so many other RU-vid reviewers are so hyped up & excited during the review. Whereas you're both calm & pleasant. Almost like getting advice from Mom & Dad. Love it.

An electric car specialist at VW here in Quebec told me its 24 month waiting list, but they are finishing the tennessee VW plant and will produce around 2500 cars a day, this will ramp up cars deliveries and since its in US, we will get them faster in Canada instead of getting them from Germany.

Good first effort by both of these manufacturers. The Toyota has a lot going for it, like brand reliability, but I dislike the black cladding, and not having a memory driver's seat is a deal-breaker for me. So I would probably go with the I.D.4, even with its quirky controls.

Toyota invested all it's money in Hybrids while VW invested everything into EVs post dieselgate and it shows. The Volkswagen is just a better EV overall. If you like Toyota, you could buy their Hybrids/prime. Toyota hides behind the slow charging by stating it is designed for longevity...EV buyers are people who will never own their car for 10 years xD, these are the people making solid money and will switch cars every gen.

i get it. but it just sounds more uniform to the rest of the alphabets’ pronunciations imo. like why don’t we call ‘c’ as “cedd” or ‘b’ as “bedd”, etc. then? lol
@ravitoday
@ravitoday 2 года назад
@@mikevaldes9831 Well what we like v/s what the language rules are two different things. I am not an expert on various rules, to know the reason. But "an" is used for words starting with vowels. I not necessarily like it, but that is how it is written in the language. From what I know ( this could be false rumour also), zedd was the norm. Until some poet or song writer used "zee" for some children rhyme. But for language it is better to follow the rules uniformly . All alphabets have different sounds and don't have to sound similar to other alphabets. That is why "J" is Jay and "T" is tee and "Z" is zedd.
@bmw803
@bmw803 2 года назад
That pronunciation comes from French, and since the UK was invaded by the Normans they brought their pronunciation in the education system. Most English letters have "EE" pronunciation, so Zee follows the norm. CEE, TEE, BEE, VEE, therefore ZEE. It has nothing to do with America, Canada or any other Geographical location you're at.
@ravitoday
@ravitoday 2 года назад
@@bmw803 That is good information. Good to know. I was saying that most regions pronounce it as Bee-Zedd including the country where English language is from. Sure, VW's does not look great, but not as offensive. Much prefer to save money & weight and not get a power seat. I’d like to bring an element of the real world into this discussion. People might be inclined to think they can walk into a Toyota dealership and buy a RAV 4 prime and expect to be driving it in short order. Fact is, 3-4 years of wait with a $2500.00 deposit up front. Today, another Canadian brought that expectation to 5 years wait. How will delivery compare with the BZ4X? I’m thinking we might realistically expect warp drive in vehicles by then.

I think electric cars are great for the urban environment with daily driving distances of only a couple hundred km per day. Lots of charging stations available and easily charged at home. However for any long distance travelling EV's are not practical. Hydrogen fuel powered vehicles are the future for any small or large vehicles for long distance travel. You can easily top up in 5 minutes vs 30-40 minutes with a EV. In fact Ontario has just announce a new Hydrogen fuel production plant to be built in the Niagara region which could be running by 2024. Several more are planned in the province.

Good review, but you should check on the type of clearance figures given by the manufacturers before you state one is better than another. As pointed out by an earlier comment, they are in reality very close. Secondly, acceleration stats are useful, but how does the car handle emergency lane changes, curves, bumps and pavement joint strips? How quiet is the car in regard to tire, road and wind noise? How long are the seat cushions in the front seats, especially important for taller drivers? Thanks.

Im torn I've always liked the ID 4, but I do NOT like Volkswagon. I would likely go with the Toyota just because.

Does any of these offers cover for panoramic sunroof. The BZ4 looks like it has. How is the auto steering on freeway for these two cars? How is the charging network?

I do like both cars Andrea, but if I'm pushed to choose the I.D.4 has it for me and its so big in the metal. I guess the bz4x is just as big!

Considering batteries degrade over years , is that worth paying premium everybody is charging for EVs? I am going to keep my gas car for next 5 years. I want to switch over but there is lots of price gouging going on at this point.

Good point. GM just dropped their BOLT to sub 30K. Tax credits are over. otherwise they wont sell. Cant wait until other companies start using LFP batteries. Keep waiting. No rush.

The Toyota is the same as the Subaru Solterra. That would be the comparison to do.

Wonder why they didn't name the front wheel drive model bZ2x instead of bZ4z?
@FuryanZ
@FuryanZ 2 года назад
Because there are other models coming. The '4' stands for the car size. There will be a bZ3X, a bZ2X and even a bZ5X. 25 new EV models coming... 😉

At 3:15 you said VW will permit one-pedal driving in a future software update. I looked elsewhere for more information about that but struck out. Can you elaborate? Will the amount of regenerative braking be adjustable in software or does VW just mean that by taking ones foot off of the go pedal the car will slow to a complete stop (and not creep forward)?
