Toyota Camry - Uncertified & Uncut Welding - Extreme Trigger WARNING!

In this video I help a customer out buy saving her money on a simple exhaust repair. Toyota wanted to replace the entire convertor however we replaced just the flex pipe. It's easy, cost way less but you know how it is when a RU-vidr breaks out a welder 😉
-Enjoy!

Not gonna lie that joke went right over my head but now reading your comment I get it lol. Initially I thought he said common generator or something similar. I knew he was talking about the welder I just thought he was calling it some kind of electric generator as a nickname. I totally forgot about the critics in the comment section telling him he ain't doing it right lol.

Eric, as a certified welder, I can tell you that I work with people every day that do things 10 times worse than burning a small hole in material. The only reason I am certified is because it is required for my job. (I submit these welding coupons every year to these young "inspectors" that don't know what they are looking at....) When you are welding on thin material crap can happen. You repaired it and everything is cool. We all know that you don't have any training to do anything that you do; you have told us you don't. I don't mind you don't have welding certifications or that your fingernails are crusty. (I did a bit of research on psoriatic arthritis and I was fascinated by it.) I come here because I know you are going to do the right thing....and I am NEVER disappointed. GREAT VIDEO!

I'm one of those guys who prefer repairing to replacing. The starter on my 04 Corolla died a few years ago so I pulled it off and tore it down to see what was wrong with it. As I suspected when it quit, the brushes were worn out. I ordered a $10 brush assembly because I didn't want to pay $175 for a remanufactured starter. 4 years later and it still works like a new one. I pity you rust belt car owners. My Corolla has 258000 miles on it and I am still running the original rotors and have only had them resurfaced once. The car is still solid.
@haywardsautomotive6156
@haywardsautomotive6156 8 месяцев назад
Love how the welding helmets have improved over the years. Now you can actually see what your target is before you strike the metal and the lens switches so fast. The worst part is going to use it everything prepped and the batteries are dead. Welding on rusted vehicles is not going to look pretty sometimes but it can save the customer lots of $$.

Love your videos and cost savings approach to repairing a customers vehicle.

I find it amazing how inexpensive this kind of exhaust work is. Given how awkward this would be to do at home, with no lift, the cuss jar would be full within an hour. Even with a welder and skills, I might get a pro to do this for me anyway. But where's the fun in that, ha ha.

Weld? What weld! I didn’t see no sticking weld 😂 I watch a very good and trustworthy auto tech perform a verified repair to a customers vehicle. 😁

Another great video. Interesting, educational and I leaned a couple of important life lessons - Plan A is to have a Plan B, and Best not meddle in something that you shouldn't be meddled in.

I had a very similar fix done on a rusty old Saturn - mid-road trip - at a Midas in Ohio. Initial quote to replace everything (new Cats etc.) was about $1,700. The guy offered to use a flex instead and 3 years later it’s still working like a charm. Their charge was a bit higher but I was in a hurry so they did it on the spot and still felt like a huge saving compared to the manufacturer option.

I had a now-closed Midas quote me $600 to fix my exhaust that broke at a weld. "Oh, we have to replace the whole thing including the catalytic converter." NOPE! Went to an independent shop which charged me $50 to weld in a splice o' pipe.

Midas seems to be good at giving the bend over, we will pipe you price. Friends Subaru, they wanted $3k for 4 hub bearings and rear brakes 😂

@@markh.6687 i hear you - that was pretty much my exact experience. Cost for that fix came to about $600 at Midas which was an overcharge but I had one day to get to Connecticut from Michigan and they could do it there and then. Ideally I would have gone with an independent like SMA, but I had no time to read through reviews and just Googled “nearest muffler repair” as I drove into Ohio (exhaust was hanging off) and called to see if they could take a look ASAP. I don’t really blame them - I’d probably slap a premium on a “waiter” too :P

Thanks for doing this for folks, trying to do this laying in the driveway is not good for ones health.
