In this video I’m working on a 2005 Toyota highlander front wheel bearing. I show you step-by-step instructions on how to remove the spindle assembly and then how to get the bearing out of the spindle assembly. I tried for hours to get the bearing out without using the press. None of my tricks or antics seem to work. so I ended up having to use the press so in your situation I just recommend you take the whole hub assembly down to an auto repair shop and have them remove the bearing and install it for you. This will still save you hundreds of dollars. During the reinstallation of the bearing. I only give you the torque specs for the axle nut. and show you what JR did while installing the brake caliper don’t make the same mistake he did.Because the installation process is the reverse of the removal process I did not see it is necessary to show you step-by-step how to reinstall it. I hope the video is helpful God bless him have the best of days.

You should watch the whole video .(sometimes I’m fun) So you can inform yourself with all the great information that I put in my videos and God bless. I hope the videos helpful for you!

Thanks for the video. Watching your fight with that bearing convinced me to just buy a whole knuckle/bearing assembly and just change the whole thing.

Very useful video! Almost had to watch multiple times just for the fun facts, kept forgetting to pay attention to what you were doing lol. But you definitely inspired me to buy a whole new assembly instead of just replacing hub bearing!

Thank you for the excellently done, and very informative video. Because of your video I was able to diagnose my grandson's left wheel bearing after using your great technique of 'hand on spring and spin the wheel.' After seeing you go through the entire process of changing a wheel bearing, I did the reasonable thing and took it to my local garage to a guy who I trusted and he didn't disappoint. Thank you again. This is a tremendously helpful video!

Hey Clay great video, i need that same wheel bearing change, front driver side. But I've done the rear ones on the same exact truck, years ago and i was wondering, is the front one any different or harder than the back since the front has steering component like tie rods and ball joint or is it the same? I just don't wanna get half way through and get stuck and need a tow truck, but if i did the rear one this ones not much different right?

Dude I have the same car, I have this clunking/knocking noise I can’t figure out where is it coming from, I replaced the controls arms, sway bar bushings and links, struts were replaced not too long ago, tie rods, still. Is it possible that the wheel bearing is making that noise!! Help

Dont know if you still pay attention to replies on this video but i attempted to press the bearing out the wrong way at first and put some serious force on it before i thought “something is wrong here”… long story short i think i may have bent one of the ears on the steering knuckle that hold the brake pad bracket on so now with everything bolted up that metal piece is rubbing on my rotor and creating an awful noise and a deep score. Do you think it is possible that i did in fact bent it ? Going to check at the junkyard this weekend to see if they have any highlanders with the front left steering knuckle still on with the hub and bearing in tact.. if not im going to have to order hub and bearing and new steering knuckle and do it all over again..
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 года назад
Definitely still watch my comments. The only reason I’ll stop answering them is because I get too many right now I get about 50 a day so it’s not that hard to watch them most of them are not questions. Yeah it sounds like you did bend it. And I’m sorry to say it sounds like you’re going to need a knuckle sorry that that happened to you.

@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 года назад
I’m sure whatever is wrong with it is super simple from your brief explanation I can’t formulate what the problem would be but I would almost guarantee that if you took it to a Toyota dealership it would probably take them five minutes to figure out what’s going on you could probably even try to take it to a local mom and pop place and I’d be willing to bet that they would be next to no charge depending on how busy they are I would recommend just stopping in and asking someone to take a look at it handing them $20 bill at the moment and say hey do you got five minutes to spare this guy tells me it’s probably pretty simple and I’ll but I’m right

Ok. But I definitely cannot do this myself. You used about 3-5K in specialty tools that I definitely don’t have. I’ll just pay the local mechanic 500 to do it. That’s what I paid to have one replaced in my Acura.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 года назад
Well I’m sorry to hear that but then again at least you didn’t get into the middle of something that you couldn’t accomplish yourself. And that’s not only a money saver but that’s a timesaver as well. I will tell you I generally try to make my videos based on the most basic tools possible for you to be able to accomplish the job. I use my cheapest most common tools before I ever break out my most uncommon tools. So hopefully that’s helpful
@gearhead366

Wouldn’t it be WAY easier to just replace the bearing and hub, which can be purchased as an assembly? It looks like the hub and bearing could be removed without having to remove the spindle, and without needing a press.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 4 года назад
You can buy the spindle but I’m not aware of you being able to buy the spindle and the wheel bearing the wheel bearing would still have to be pressed out. But I work on so many cars it’s possible I could be mistaken

@spelunkerd

Two kinds of bearings, pressed-in and bolted-on. Bolted-on wheel bearings are replaced as you say; this one is pressed-in. You can't switch, the knuckle is designed for either/or. The problem with pressed in bearings is the snap ring, which is installed before the hub is slid back on. Unfortunately once the hub is back in place, you can't get to that snap ring, and the hub typically bonds itself to the inner surface of the bearing. So, when you pull the hub off years later, something has to give, and the snap ring never lets go. The weakest link is the inner structure of the bearing itself, so the bearing explodes into two pieces.

The simplest way would be to buy the Moog part#’s LK027 (left side) or LK028 (right side) $192.79 from RockAuto and bolt-on. “Complete Solution -- Pre-assembled for convenience and includes a MOOG knuckle, MOOG wheel hub with studs, bearing, axle nut, backing plate and premium ball joint (where applicable) for a complete solution”
