Okay, I'm not really going to destroy it. I'll just test it. This does not change the fact that Toyota itself acts as if it wanted to destroy the legend of Hilux. Imagine that one of the world's most legendary pick-ups, a workhorse, a machine for special tasks, has become - according to the Japanese - the perfect car for everyday driving! It has a full package of security systems, multimedia systems, LED lamps and even an amazing audio set. From all the press material on the new Hilux, the message is: "It's like an SUV, just with a box instead of a trunk."
I'm not sure if these are the things we expect from Hilux. I loved that his plastics could be treated like a nail file, carpets, pumice stone for calloused heels, and after a day of manual gear fan swinging and steering, I didn't have to go to the gym anymore.
Is it possible that the car that the Top Gear team was unable to destroy by subjecting it to a series of automotive tortures has become civilized? I do not want to believe it...
