Toyota Ignition Key Programming
Video describes "How to program a Toyota Ignition Key" to your vehicle's anti-theft computer. If your vehicle has an ignition key with a plastic backing, then it has an electronic digital chip inside. Most 1996 and newer vehicles have transponder chips inside the ignition key.
Learn the exact procedure for programming new Toyota ignition key. This procedure is only for Toyota. It won't work with another vehicle. Well, I tried the original method/instructions given to me by the company i purchased the item from on ebay and that didnt work! I actually tried that method a couple times and I just became frustrated. So I tried using this method from the video and it worked PERFECTLY on the first try. I had no problems whatsoever programming my transponder key to my 2000 toyota Solara.To be honest I was shocked but also excited. Once again thanks for the video!

Thank you! Bought an 02 Sienna CE and one of the keys (the blank) wouldn't start the car, tried this trick and BAM the new key works! Love it! For anyone doing this on a 98-03 Sienna it takes about 45 seconds for the light to go out just be patient.

Work perfectly for my daughters 2001 Camry. Thank you! I tried the other procedure with the key in and out five times and opening and closing the The driver side door. That procedure did not work for me. I believe that procedure works for newer Toyotas. Thanks again

Yes, tape the new uncut key to the back of the valley or old key, do the programming and see if it works. Post back with more afterwards. Thanks for posting.

Yes, the remote or keyless entry is a separate module (computer). On those you may or may not need a scan tool. I have no videos on those yet. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! This sequence worked perfectly the first time I tried it: Toyota Yaris Verso 4 Cyl 2002 (Funcargo) in Germany, EU. The day before I tried 3 other sequences (for later models) that failed. I almost gave up. But then I found this one for vehicles made before 2004 and I'm happy now.

Worked perfectly on a 2000 Sienna. Thank you so much. No problems with remote locking/unlocking or anything else. No surprise there as the remote would obviously be separate from the keys and already programmed to the car's security codes, but just felt like that should be added.

@Motorista55B Yes, a spare key is a regular key. Not a valley key. Also remember that there is a specific number of keys that can be programmed. If that number has been reached then you have to use the factory scanner to erase that number and start from 0. This is normally not an issue on newer vehicles. Good luck...

You can cut from the valley... Make sure the new key has the transponder in it. A cut is just a cut to mechanically turn the key cylinder. THanks for posting.

If you only change the lock cylinder then you don't need any programming. If your issue is only the cylinder, do not change the key. Have the locksmith key the new cylinder to the old key. That's what every repair shop does. Hope that helps.

@srikumarsss OK, there may be another issue. All manufacturers have a maximum of keys you can program, say 8 or 12. It depends on the manufacturer. If the max amount of keys were programmed, then it won't except your new key. If you vehicle starts with another key, then transponder at the ignition cylinder is fine. When programming the key, you can't skip or perform the steps wrong. It is very exact. Often you have to try several times. Make sure you have a clear head... Good luck.

@eid3535 If you're refering to keyless entry, then no. KE is a separate systems with totally separate modules, even though they're so close together. But, I can tell you that on most models it can be programmed without special tools. It's in our to do list of videos. Good luck to you.

ADPTraining I recently changed the ignition cylinder on my 2000 Toyota Avalon, due to the imobalizer, the new keys will not start the car. How can I program the new keys with the new cylinder (as i assume the new keys wont work in the old cylinder and vice versa)? Also, I still have the old cylinder, with a working key in case that is needed..

You need to insert the old master key first to initiate programming mode with pedals. No need to turn it.

Hello and thanks for posting. Give it a shot and try it. You have nothing to loose. Don't listen to hearsay about programming tool needed. You may or may not need a scan tool, just give it a shot.

Tried this multiple times on my 06 Highlander. My security light would not stop flashing. I waited a couple times up to 5-10 minutes. I don't think this will work on it.

Does the key have the transponder in it? It may be a fake key or a cheap knock-off, or your memory or maximum amount of keys may have been reached. Does that make sense?

What you're referring to are the electronic throttle DBW resetting procedures. Lots of systems are OK if you disconnect battery. However, you CAN NOT remove battery without a memory saver tool. It is not proper procedure on any brand. There are 1001 reasons that you have to remove the battery, but you need a memory saver tool. We have a video on the subject. At the end of this video, click the video link at the bottom right of the screen. So, memory saver, problem solved. Does that make sense?

Took 3 goes to get it right but in the end it worked on my manual 2003 Corolla zze122r , have been running about almost 2 years with only 1 key , so yeah its good to have a spare key. Guessing I'll keep the master key as the spare & use the new key as the everyday use key.

I have corolla 2011s ,i lost the key but i still have the gray one g chipset, i bought a new blank one from e-bay, can i program it easly? Or as my dealer say it needs special programming and may be the chipset of the imoblizer should be prpgrammed and it cost alot of money and time, waiting your kind answer

It depends on which version you have. Walmart couldn't copy mine which was a G chip, though they could older ones. Also, the only blanks they had was for a valet key, not a remote keyless entry one and those were $60. I don't know when Toyota began using the "G" transponder key, but it's apparently an extra hassle to deal with and has to be done by the dealer or someone with the correct PC hardware.

What years of Toyota vehicles is this key programming proceedure applicable to? As someone already stated there is no harm in trying the proceeedure and either the programming mode will be engaged or it will not.

Lost my key to 2009 toyota rav 4. Locksmith came out and made new one. He, of course,changed the digital signature and new key worked. Got home and spare key works on doors but not to start car, will this sequence work to make old "original" key match new digital signature.

To reprogram the same key, you have to erase the modules memory first. You can't have the same key programmed twice, nor is there any need for that. On Toyotas there's a min of 2 keys and a max of 12 keys. Makes sense?

This method works for a 2002 corolla sold in Australia. $17 for a key on ebay from the US, $35 key cut by local locksmith (Bunnings wont cut auto keys) and follow this procedure. Dont give up it may take several attempts you will know it has worked when the security light stops flashing on the dash.

I have the original key for my toyota aygo 2005, but the buttons wore away and i cant use it anymore, does this process work for a replacing my old key? I want to use the new key for locking and unlocking the doors without inserting the key in the lock

Well, I thought I'd come back and answer my own questions. The instructions seen here and elsewhere will NOT work with a 2011 Camry with G transponder key. It can ONLY be programmed by special hardware that can read the code from an existing master and copy it to your blank. So, don't bother sitting in your car for hours trying all these steps. Lastly, it doesn't seem to cause any damage as I first feared to attempt and fail programming b/c it was never doing anything anyway.

My 2010 Toyota Corolla has a G-type key - I read that the G-type key can only be programmed at the dealer. Will this Toyota Ignition Key Programming procedure in this video work on the G-type key ?
