Nice instructional video! I've learned a bit about my FJ40's wiring through trial and error, so wish I'd come across this sooner. Have you thought about replacing these incandescent bulbs with LED's? I'm debating which to put in my rig -- I don't want TOO bright of a light, especially since my dimmer is broken.

Hi Tim, I just don't like LED lights in old cars , old bulbs give so much more ambiance. With the 3 Watt bulbs you could hardly see what was going on on the dash cluster, with 5 Watt bulb it's sufficient. Same goes for the license plate lights, bulb with a much warmer light.

@@ClazzicCruisers, I have such low voltage at my license plate I'm hoping an LED will work because of its lower power consumption.

Hi Tim, Did you try a new alternator? (Although I know that's more costly than LED's for testing).

The low voltage is only at the license plate lights, and the supply to my tail lights. This is just coming from the battery, without the vehicle running. I'm pretty sure I have issues with grounding, and possibly some partially burned wires after 40 years of use.
