I agree, I have cars, rc cars, stereos, all hobbyists grade things and enough information to make a channel but I do not want to be on video. Nor do i have the skills needed! That takes courage
I enjoy that even a failed savagegeese review is better than 90% of other reviews on RU-vid. Enjoyed the look into the process too. Really helped humanize and bring more personality to Jack! The outro was new heights of savagery and geesery as well. Glad you're back, hope all is well.
When I decided to sell my Tacoma a few years ago, I put a For Sale sign in the window and parked it on the street in front of my house. Within 30 minutes, my doorbell rang and a guy asked me a few questions and offered me my full asking price. We went to his bank for the cash, and I signed over the title. The next day, I bought a new 4Runner. No regrets.
I work for Enterprise and drive damn near every kind of regular car on an almost daily basis. My mid-sized truck rankings go: Canyon, Colorado, Frontier, Tacoma, Gladiator, Ranger, Ridgeline. I base this on the fact that mid-sized trucks are effectively cars first and trucks second for most people. The Tacoma and Ranger were designed with the opposite in mind, as such the Tacoma has poor ergonomics if your arms are even slightly shorter than average and the Ranger is under-damped and wobbles like a Weeble. The Ridgeline is completely incapable of driving off road over 5 mph and doesn't tow or haul nearly as much as the others - its bed only exists for stuff that's too dirty to put in the back of a minivan. I've only driven a Gladiator for a few minutes, so it's position is just a guess.
Failure is part of the learning process. Fail fast, fail big, and correct mediately towards perfection. Success is a process. Just do it! We appreciate all you do at Savagegeese. Keep up the great work!
I feel like jack shouldn't try so hard to get geese's style down. Unless specifically asked for it, if he feels comfortable trying a different take I don't see why not try it out. Worst case, geese/mark keeps doing this regular thing. Best case, we get two unique styles of presentation on the same platform. Jack in other videos seems like he's having a good time when he's just talking about whatever comes to mind. Maybe rambling a bit in front of the camera can help him figure out his groove.
3 years ago I bought a 2016 TRD O/R for $33.5k brand new. It was a "stripper" model, V6, 6spd manual, and the only options were the Towing Package and All-Weather Floormats. I felt like at $33.5k the truck offered a LOT of capability for the price compared to other vehicles in the market, and especially so when you consider the long-term reliability and resale value. A TRD-Pro capability wise has a different set of struts/springs and that's it. The tires are the same shitty Goodyears, and other than cosmetic stuff, mechanically the TRD Pro is the same as a TRD -OR ... sooo if you just want the capability of a Tacoma for getting to your favorite camping/hiking spot or whatever, then just get the TRD O/R and save $15k ... if you want better performance than a TRD-Pro just buy the TRD O/R and spend $3k on a set of real high-performance struts/shocks/springs that will blow away those on the TRD-Pro and spend $2k on a set of wheels and tires.
I'm a Tacoma owner but not a Toyota fan boy, I drove the competition in the fall of 2015 and chose the 3rd generation Tacoma over the GM twins. This was partially due to the reasons you mentioned (reliability and resale) but primarily because the Tacoma is the only truck that was available in a well optioned configuration with a manual transmission. There are definitely too many hard plastics in the interior and it needs height adjustable seats (coming in 2020) but I've found that it does have several available features that help it feel somewhat modern in day to day use. In addition to stuff like a sunroof, navigation and heated seats/mirrors, the Tacoma has been available with dual climate control, wireless charging and blind spot monitoring since 2016. The composite bed will never rust and the adjustable bed cleats are useful for every load. There are a lot of storage areas under and behind the rear seats in a double cab. I use my truck to tow a 5000 lbs travel trailer, which it does with ease. If the Ranger was available with the 2.7 TT V6 and a manual, I'd trade in my Tacoma tomorrow. Otherwise, I will be keeping it for a long, long time.
Dont worry Jack. The vast majority of us have placed ourselves in your shoes is an attempt to replicate Mark. We all failed miserably in the comfort of our homes. But you sir are a bad ass and took a chance! Mad Respect!
There’s only one SG, Jack needs his own style and voice otherwise he’s an imitator. Toyota is being complacent, they better hope that a company like Hyundai or Kia does not decide to compete in this segment.
Tacoma sales numbers disagree with your opinion. It may be dated in a lot of ways, but apparently people who want a truck like the Tacoma seem to think it's a good one to buy.
JoMaHa I agree, sales numbers don’t lie and everyone almost agrees that Toyota has excellent build quality but they may not be as dominant if they become complacent.
Ford and Chevy both have mid size pickups. I doubt that Hyundai or Kia would want to limp in to the pickup market especially since neither really has any off road/suv chops
I believe this is just like starting a new job and being on the same job for years, when you start a new job everything seems a bit more difficult than usual unless you already know what you are doing than being on a job for a very long time most of the work seem a lot easier than it should be. But learning and improving is what life is about 👍
Hope everything works out for you Mark. I don’t know if people really understand just how much work you’ve put in for the quality of content and production in your vids. Jack is pretty smooth on camera compared to most too. Interesting example.
As a SCRA man myself I give Jack total respect for the try. As my youngest son’s kindergarten teacher told him, “try don’t cry”. So many people think it’s easy creating quality content. Love the channel.
Just watched the new Taco review and found this based on what he comments there. Wow dude, hard to imagine this happened. Huge props to both of you for trying this 3 years ago!
Jack was fine for the first time and I could see more of the video. I am happy to see Jack more often solo. I`ve noticed Jack has some premium knowledge and I would love for him to share it. Jack: consider joining Savage podcast as well.
I now have 92K miles on my 2019 TRD Off road...a lot of those miles in 4WD...just a fantastic vehicle...we have another Tacoma (now my son's), a 2002 TRD Off Road (v6) 4x4, it has 240K miles...as expected wonderfully reliable and capable (on and off road).
sirgrundel Doug is good for each little feature but the driving portion lacks every time, I always feel like I’m missing something. You guys should check out Chad Haire
I like all the characters you have on this channel. All four of you guys are great. Theres a formula here that combines all four personas perfectly, we just havent seen it yet. -Mark and Scott in the shop -Mark talking interior -Mark and Jack for the ride along w/ John as the backseat driver -John and Mark for intro/outro
Good job Jack. Like anything else it'll come with time and practice. Having worked in film when things go wrong even when you've got million-dollar budgets and an army. Props to anyone who puts themselves out there.
Please stop saying stuff like"Get a real Job" or "do something real"!!! I want to say now this and i hope that will not provoke any reactions! This is a very serious job what you are doing in every aspect. It requires much more than every single viewer can even imagine.Someone needs to be very creative very talented in cinematography in photography with deep knowledge of the modern technology and of course knowing the subject. You got all these you re on the top of the business and i guess doesn't pay nowadays to be one of the best on a highly competitive scene like this if you dont have more than 1 mil subscribers. This is a very serious job now RU-vid is the new world and is killing old traditional motor journalism and is great to see that. I will see first all these channels here before i give my money to buy 200 pages with more that the half of them filled up with commercials. Stay well and keep creative even if the result doesn't meet the expectations. I ll be always watching RU-vid because is the new world! Great Job Mark !
I'm really glad you put up this video. I, and many of us fans can really relate. I tried my hand a couple car reviews/a bike review, and it's HARD work, and it's also very treacherous, in that you can get self-concious, and frustrated, and stuck with not being able to get your words out once you are in camera. I know I had a lot to say, but wasn't able to say it, once I hit record. This happened with every take.
Jack, that was a really good first attempt, please keep trying. I know it's hard, I've been trying to teach myself guitar, and it's hard. But I look at where my guitar playing was 6 months ago, and I can see the improvements. Keep your head up, and and keep on keeping on!
Such a beautiful truck. Best looking midsize on the market and the voodoo is my favorite special trd pro color. Got it on my 4runner and it pops like crazy
You're right, it desperately needs to receive a major update or maybe the entire line up of Toyota trucks require a new build, so let's see what they roll out in 2020. RAM, Ford, Jeep, GM and Chévy are bringing some really exciting and great platforms to the market.
Love the out takes becuase most dont know how difficult it is to put together a quality video and to get all the technical stuff ... on top of all of that is to explain it so people can understand .... Anyway still like the video... it shows the "human side"
Your comments reflect that a) you don’t belong to the group of people that would buy it b) you are not a truck person c) while you understand why people that buy these trucks buy them, you still don’t see why we don’t care about fancy interiors and all the other bmw bullshit. Tacoma is straight up about reliability and off-road abilities. That’s it.
Let me let you in on a little secret about Toyota trucks or 4-Runners. Buy a base model 4x4. Spend 3,000 bucks on a mild lift and some cheap tires and wheels. Drive it for 3 years and put 40k miles on it. Sell it for the same price you bought it for originally.
Mr. Geese, you are spot on with pros and cons, my wife and I went truck shopping and she would not even get into the Tacoma Crew Cab after test driving the Tundra Crew Max.
Reviewing cars is a difficult task! I’ve done ONE and it took several hours to get 15 minutes of footage. Guys like Goose and Clarkson and Mr. Regular make it look easy but they’ve had tons of practice.
it's all a learning process, i'm glad Jack is happy to help out when you're lacking time. Take your time Mark, and don't worry Jack, you'll improve quickly
I find that it's very easy to forget just how difficult it must be to put together geese-quality videos. Jack is very knowledgeable and talented. I'm sure with some practice he would do well.
I think an "Angry Jack" segment deserves a place in your reviews. Not only because there's an element of entertainment to it, but it would be cool to watch him get better at it over time.
Jack has been in front of the cam before and did very well, so the potential is there for sure, but talking to an invisible audience is super hard and most people fall into this sort of vlog rambling or getting all wired. I recall my own very bad (yet unpublished) attempts and my time in a TV-moderator seminar I went to in college. So I say he did allright all things considered. Thanks Mark for showing this anyway and giving Jack a platform and your trust with your livelihood. I loved every minute of it and especiallly all the little details: the scoop, the stickers on the Element - shoutout straight pipes, and the insane outro. You could include even more outtakes in the future just for fun.
Seats are too low to the ground (they’ve always been that way since they started making trucks), no headroom, no leg room in the back, too expensive, transmission always hunting gears and fake hood scoop. I bought a Frontier instead and I love it. That being said the truck is incredibly reliable and it will go anywhere. And resale value is excellent.
Outdoor Layne Factually you’re wrong. I just took my truck to Carmax this past summer after three years ownership and 53k miles. It only lost 35% of its value and the appraiser said had I had average miles I would have gotten more. So...you’re wrong.
Jack, I'm looking forward to what you can produce. I hope you keep some of the cheeky and funny interludes that the Goose Man has put in his past videos, along with your own signature twist. While I'm kind of sad that Mark is taking a step back, I'm hopeful you can pick it up and be successful. Good luck.
Jack, you are learning man... We can't all be like Savage G right off the bat. And FFS make, eat some Arby's first. All that delicious beef will help your brain!
Jack you gotta keep doing these, commit to 5 more. Frustratingly enough you were born with a natural narration voice and you have to use it. Don’t bail until you’ve done 5 reviews. You naturally gifted bastard.
Came back from the new Tacoma video. Jack is still ethnically ambiguous but kicks balls now. From the technical deep dives of McLaren Altura, to something so unwritten like posture. You've come a long, long way. I hope you guys reach the fame that you deserve. Cheers
What I like about this is that it helps to show just how polished people who do this regularly vs a newbie. I'm guessing most people feel like they could do youtube videos easily but more than likely this is how it would go the first few times lol.
Mark, so sorry to hear you won't be making videos for a while, but I'm so glad you're finally going through with your sex change. We'll keep supporting the channel in your absence and look forward to your return as the real you.
After the sell-out ad for Jungle Power, there's a brief closing sequence of the TRD on an off-road course. Meanwhile, on the road alongside, someone is having a drive-by BBQ. Looks like a great day out.
I test drove one of these trucks. I really wanted to like it. Toyota makes top notch products and I like how it looks. Just did not like the interior and the driving experience. Went with a Colorado instead. Just felt vastly more modern. Time will tell whether GM quality bites me in the butt or it is a top notch vehicle as well.
if you are heading for bigger and better things Mr. SG, more power to you! if not, I hope shit gets straight real quick for you. You and your team does great work!
Its not easy to make a quality video. There is so much to consider in a split second vs. so much content. He’s got a great video presence. Takes time. Keep going. 👌👍
Jack gave it an honest try and it didn't work out as he expected but it shouldn't keep him from trying again. I enjoyed the complete transparency and I was entertained. Good job Jack, looking forward to more videos.
The resale on these stays high because nothing ever changes. Current owners must love that but it does make news ones a hard sell. One thing going for them is they last forever if you do a little maintenance.
