It may not be fancy, techy, or gimmicky but the Toyota Tundra was built to go the distance. #ToyotaTundra #PickupTrucks

It is finally nice to see a prior domestic owner realize and acknowledge how good of a truck the Tundra is. This is something that us Tundra and Tacoma owners have known for decades. Progress is being made.

@@RealCptHammonds The 3.5L Twin Turbo and hybrid models have had some hiccups initially. Time will tell if the 3.5L will be as legendary as the 5.7L. As for me, if I ever need another truck, I will definitely choose Toyota and not any of the competitors.

I don’t think they lost a “great opportunity “ by switching to an electric fan and changing the power steering. They left it that way because it’s extremely reliable. That’s WAS the great thing about the Toyota trucks, their simplicity which many users love. Simplicity = reliability
@Jay-me7gw

I agree with this, but I also dont think it was just for reliability. I think to its for superior cooling as well. Electric fans will never move air like an engine driven cooling fan.
@joerivas9847

@@Jay-me7gw Disagree. And yet some overland semi trucks use eletro mechanical fans. I have a 2000 Sierra that never came with e fans, but I bought Efans, harness got it tuned and it cools tremendously. I dont know where you live, I live in the desert of Imperial Valley, Ca. Summer temps up to 120, average 110. My 2000 Sierra the mech fan that came on it and my wifes 02 Tahoe NEVER pulled enough air at a stop sign/light with the A/C running to keep the air cold. always swampy humid filled air. I switched to efans both keep the vehicles cool engine temp wise, 210 range never over, and the A/C blows cold. Even towing water tanks out into the desert in 100 degree weather at 3 to 5 MPH over rocky dirt hilly roads my truck has NEVER overheated. I plan to buy a used Tundra, I will look into adapting the Seqouia helper e fan to it. I know some Tundras came with that option too. So no the mech fans DONT pull enough air, when you run A/C at least.

From my experience having electric power steering and electric cooling fans doesnt make any noticeable difference in fuel economy and power on a v-8 engine. Reason manufacturers went to it was to keep up with the EPA’s CAFE ratings.

Have you guys seen how much the labor rates have gone up. One major issue with your domestic truck and all the savings for the gas would go down the drain very, very quickly.

Pay a little more for gas? You mean a lot more...
@bryanangelov
@bryanangelov 9 месяцев назад
@@javilink7 There are few trucks that are not as thirsty as my Tundra, and I am talking real MPG. The GM"s 3.0 diesel and Ford's 2.7 gas engine are very efficient. The rest are good on paper, but in the real world they are not as fuel efficient as they claim. At the end of the day, if you need a truck, you will pay a lot of money for it, gas/diesel it does not matter. If you have an American truck from the big 3, you will pay for repairs too. Whichever way you go, you will spend a lot of money. My truck payment is $890 per month. I bought it brand new for 56k OTD. I spent $550 for gas per month on average. We drive the truck about 18,000 miles per year. Gas is expensive in WA, $4.69 at Costco. It is not cheap, but repairs are not cheap either. I have not had a single issue yet. In addition, all new trucks cost at least 10k or more compared to my truck and the trim level. Considering the price premium and the higher interest rates, just the truck payments of the new 2023/2024 truck would be $400 to $600 more per month compared to my payments. So, at the end of the day, it is all about how much it will cost you, and although my truck's 14MPG is concerning, the savings I am getting from not having costly repairs and that my truck is 10k to 15k cheaper, it ends up that I am saving money rather than spending more when you compare oranges to oranges.

These 5.7 are absolute pigs on gas. Second worst MPG of all trucks. Worst MPG is Titan w the 5.6. They are good trucks but it cost too much to run and parts are expensive. Rather a domestic truck. Parts and service are much cheaper as is gas consumption. Engines w cylinder deactivation can be tuned off or deleted. Id rather get 17-18mpg than 10-12.

The fact that Toyota was buying back or doing full frame replacements on trucks due to rust is so impressive to me. Can you think of any other manufacturers that would even consider doing this. They obviously learned from this costly issue and have greatly improved metal quality and coating techniques to fix this issue. I have found over the years that it’s not that Toyota builds better than the others. It’s the fact they fix known issues better than everyone else. Each model has its growing pains the first couple years. So I would always suggest buying a Toyota that’s long in the tooth. I’d much rather pay a little more at the pump than be on a first name basis with the mechanics…

Trick to 5.7 is (from your local dealership) synthetic oil changes every 5K miles and (local Toyota dealership) trans fluid changes (do not flush them!) every 60k miles and they will run forever also make sure to change radiator fluid every once in awhile and the truck will run forever and if yours is 4 wheel drive with a transfer case then make sure to use it at least 2 times each month to maintain it and it will never mess up.

I don't know how the 20-23 Titans will hold up, but I can tell you a few years precedent to that, they had differential, rear end, and electrical problems. Also the 5.6's during those years had an issue with cylinder #7, owners complaining of loud ticking noise. They got put on a list for engine swaps. Nissan dealers swapped lots of 5.6's and were encouraged to not report it, so it doesn’t hurt Nissan Titan sales. So a perspective buyer of a used Titan will not see it on a Car Fax report. Also there’s a class action lawsuit pending regarding 20-23 Titan transmission problems.

I am now a firm believer in Toyotas I just picked up a 19 Toyota tundra Limited

I had an 07 for 9 years and I put over 100k on it with very few issues. My 17 did have a lifter failure that barely squeezed into the warranty period. Other than that, they are very solid trucks. The interiors hold up extremely well and at 150k on my 07, it was still as tight as the day it rolled off the line. I replaced all the shocks around 100k. Of course, I live in the desert which is a huge advantage. Compared to the domestics, they are a notch above IMO. The brand new Tundra? It has way too many bells and whistles. The reliability will decline.

Had a 21 tundra. Good truck but I wouldn’t say bulletproof just imo. I hated the 4 wheel drive feature bc when you go to turn the vehicle while moving, it feels as if you’re going to snap the drive axles and all my other trucks never did this while in 4wd. Toyota then told me that’s normal as we also have a 21 1794 and that one does the exact same thing. Also, the wipers suck on both of the trucks. Toyota replaced the wipers and all they would do is squeal. Cleaned the windshields vigorously and they still are terrible. Had a rattle in the truck bed and Toyota couldn’t find it. They finally told me that the bed bolts were loose on my third time back to another dealer. Still like the trucks but like I say, there are some issues imo that need fixed… nice video sir as just fyi Toyota did keep the rear roll down window on the new 22 tundra crew max like yours. That is a great feature…wish it was offered as well on the double cab lol…👍👍👍

I got a 2010 trd pro crew max 4x4 . Love that truck ,radiant red with tan cloth interior. The body and interior looks brand new. Dosen't use oil or leak oil . Im the second owner. It has 291000 miles on it right now. I was so impressed that i went out and bought a 2021 black with brown leather 1794 edition tundra with 23460 miles on it. The last of the full size 5.7 tundras . I really like the back window option where the whole window lets down like a station wagon and those massive back doors. The 2010 runs smoothly. I'm keeping both 😊

I had a 2009 Tundra that I bought in 2016. It had its frame replaced by Toyota in 2015. The paperwork for that job was still in the glovebox. $11,000+ total. I also owned a 2011 Rock Warrior that the first owner had Zeibart done every year. That’s not a great product being a rubberized product. I saw rust bubbling up under the rubber coating. My 2018 Tundra I just purchased came from Arizona and the frame looks showroom new. To keep it that way I am having WoolWax Black applied before this winter here in Ohio. Tundras are amazing trucks….overbuilt for sure.

After 5 years it needs some touch up but it has held up very well, no rust anywhere. GREAT PRODUCT, as is Fluid Film. They are Lanolin based, not rubberized like Zeibart and some others. SMART people use WoolWax and FF!

The way I look at it, to replace it for a truck that gets "better mileage" (not when towing though) and spending 50k on a new one, well, that 50k buys a lot of gas. Many of these new powerful trucks require premium fuel as well.

If this truck were paid off that would be a very valid argument. But if you go from a payment of X with terrible fuel economy to a payment of X with great fuel economy it's a big win in today's world.

About the gas mileage. I have a 2017 TSS Offroad for a year and I absolutely love it. To be 4WD...I'm getting 15.7 mpg in my day to day driving. I can't complain about that with a 6700 lb truck. Once, I filled it up and drove 65 mph for 120 miles on the 4 lane and got 18.1 mpg. For those that say they get 11-13 mpg, you can't complain about that if you're jacking it up and putting on gigantic tires, or you're constantly towing something.

But overall it was a very impressive truck not only the powertrain and exterior but the interior really held up from looks to function. Compared to my friends domestics it just seems like they start falling apart both interior, exterior and powertrain about a 100k miles.

Im going back and forth with AAA insurance right now because they want to total a truck with 160k miles. You cant find that truck with that low of miles. Call goodwrech and see where Toyota takes care of you . But as you said the 22 needs a refresh. FYI Check tsb on fuel pump s . Fixed gas mileage. Took almost 2years to make it happen with the Toyota rep , but they took care of it in good faith and I appreciate it . I’m in rust belt in n Illinois and it’s 5 yrs old and clean . Great video !

Enjoying listening. I have owned 3 4-runners and 3 Tacomas. Haven’t owned a Tundra…yet. Best trucks in the world. Retired last 7 tears so the 2015 Tacoma I bought new with 96k miles currently is incredible. The 4.0 six pulls my boat and camper (5,000 and 6,800 lbs) with no issues. Have never found a truck I want more than the one I have. The first couple of years after I got it I would have been willing to trade for another Tacoma with a V8 like they had in the 4Runner in ‘03 to ‘08, and still would, but Toyota has made it known there not going in that direction. The politicians or at least the obey we have now, would have us in trucks with power plants we don’t need or want. Baby your current truck because you probably won’t like your next one. Good video.

On my second tundra first a 2003 now a 2016 and never a problem or repair,used to love my 2001 Chevy until at 116k the fuel pump went stranding us in the middle of traffic, at 160k the intake gasket went bad on the inside instead of out dumping coolant into the piston which compressed and bent a push rod,the 4 wheel drive worked when it felt like it leaving us stuck in the desert! I will say i wish Toyota did a better job with comfort, I find fords and Chevys much more of a comfortable ride but ill stick with Toyota for the low cost of repairs.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting perspective. 6 years/100.000 miles is barely broken in for a Tundra. Good point on the mechanical fan and power steering costing a little bit of fuel economy and power, but I wonder if one repair of more modern parts will make up for that.

2013 Tundra SR5 bought NEW and over 186,000 miles later with ZERO issues. I don't understand why people go on about the cost of fuel. It's a truck that can tow 10,000 lbs. Can't do that with a Corolla. Just keep the truck after payoff and run it till the wheels fall off. Gas is cheaper than gas with a monthly note. Aside from running out of gas or a flat tire you never see a Toyota broke down on the side of the road, just everybody else.
