R.I.P. Johnny Olsen, Gene Wood, Rod Roddy and now Tom Kennedy God Bless You All SO Very Much and Thanks for all the years that you've entertained us in the World of Game Shows
Some of the best in the business. I was unfortunately too young to remember much about Johnny Olson or Tom Kennedy but I enjoy watching the reruns here on RU-vid.
Oh my goodness. This is my husband and I. The night time show was much more expensive so I told my husband to bid high. The audience laughed when he said $1500. The other bids were low. Guess who won!! So many years ago. How funny. 1985 was a good year.
@@wschmrdr Agreed! But with stint with The Price is Right was a Warm Up for his announcing work on Card Sharks with Bob Eubanks, Bill Rafferty and Classic Concentration with Alex Trebek since his previous announcing work did not involve describing prizes, aside from the Consolation ones.
I enjoyed the Tom Kennedy Version, I don't care if Bob Barker has hosted the show for 35 years and I don't care if it aired for only 1 season, @ least it was a great way to see someone else host the show not named Bob Barker or Drew Carey and plus, it was great to see Tom make the contestants feel welcome @ home It was also great to see Tom Kennedy being greeted by Janice Pennington and he also treated Janice, Dian and Holly with Class, plus there were a couple of historic moments on TPIR Bill Cullen will forever be known as The Original Host of The Price is Right (even though there was NO Pricing Games during his 9 year reign as host of the show) and that was long before Come on Down! became a household phrase and during the 85/86 Season, Uncle Bill who was the Brother in-Law of Tom Kennedy and the late Jack Narz was still hosting The Joker's Wild The late Dennis James also did a great job during his 5 year run during the 70's and even filled in for Barker on CBS Daytime on Christmas Day 1974 I also watched Tom Kennedy's Version of TPIR on abc affiliate KATC-TV 3 Lafayette, LA @ 4:30 P.M. CST right after JEOPARDY! with Alex Trebek (who was in his 2nd season as host of the show)
I agree with you about Drew Carey. He is just not fun to watch. He has zero energy and charisma. It’s like he’s just going through the motions. Honestly I am surprised he has lasted so long as the host. I guess he’s just reflective of his time. I think it’s time that Drew move on to something else and we get someone with energy and charisma. Someone that’s fun to watch and that really does have chemistry with the audience. Drew has as much chemistry with the audience as a wet noodle.
It's great to see past episodes of the price is right. Also I can't believe the price difference in the showcases. Tom Kennedy was a great game show host. (Also I was only 22 years old when this episode was recorded.). Thanks for posting this 👍.
Grand Game's "Ten Thousand" graphic was first seen during the "Christmas Dreams" 1984 Home Viewer Showcase, except the graphic appeared in blue. After seeing the episode on Pluto last night for the first time, my heart skipped a beat reminding me about how "scary" that zoom-in graphic seemed to me as a kid. Still, I find it a bit over the top since you can seen GG's $10,000 sign for a "split second" (no pun intended) before the graphic.
IMO, Drew doesn't have that game show host personality. There was another TPIR host, James something, I can't remember the last name he was a very good game show host too.
TheOusooner56 The reason Richard didn't make it to the showcase is because his prize total wasn't higher than either of the other two contestants. When you have three wins and two spots in the showcase, the highest totals win out overall. That's why I sort of like the Davidson version.
Greg Palmer thats fine..if I win my way to the stage, then win the pricing game, and still dont get in the showcase, then that's unfair..it means my fate was already decided..At least have a 3 way flip, odd man out, if all 3 win pricing games
A win in the Grand Game was the only way to have flashing graphics on the Kennedy version. And the Kennedy version didn't had the Double Showcase bonus because of more expensive prizes.
My guess for each of the 4 Numbers in the Price of that Car would have been the following. First Number: 8 Second Number: 9 Third Number: 4 Fourth Number: 5
I still think that these prizes were no different than the regular daytime version. But if that showcase Geary won was adjusted for inflation these days, it would be about $83,243. Definitely suitable for nighttime. 19:50 Cue the AWOOGA horn!! He didn't see that win coming!
I believe it was in 1997 or 1998....and just like the real NIGHTTIME price is right, GSN didnt keep it on the air long..maybe for a year.......only reason i know was cuz i had a 6 Ft satellite dish, long before GSN ever appeared on cable TV...
Okay....what i have always wanted on this show!! Poor Richard! All 3 contestants won their pricing games, but Richard won the racing game in 11 seconds, but he got left out of the showcase!!! a perfect 4 for 4! and still doesnt get to play the showcase? I know the other 2 won pricing games, too & it was probably due to prize value. but this nighttime version is bushleague..no showcase showdown, no wheel...at least have a drawing or some other way to make it fair.
Well the rules were taken from the early days of The NEW Price is Right from 72-75 on CBS Daytime and on syndication during the 70's Even though all 3 of them won their pricing games, the 2 highest scorers would play the Showcase But hey, that the way it goes
Could you help me find this: I was on Episode @, taped 5/14/85 and aired that Fall. I won the first IUFB with a perfect bid of $1200, and played 3 Strikes for a 1985 Buick Sky Hawk (Skylark) but lost the car. I got three strikes in a row! Showcase #2 had the theme of "Red Hot", with a diamond/ruby cocktail ring I bid $7777 on the Showcase #1 after Wanda passing it to me and WON!
Hey I have a question. What year on GSN was Tom Kennedy's TPIR on? I know this episode was from 1985, but what year on GSN though, because I first got GSN on April 28, 1999, wish I could have had GSN before that, but my mom didnt know how expensive digital cable was gonna be. I remember when I was in high school, I watched GSN before I went to school, and when I got home from school, those were the good times. Have a great day!
wow...did your husband do well that day, or what? i know its very old news, but congrats....did the show ever explain the criteria for him and the female playing in the showcase? i had no issue with him playing, but Richard won his pricing game before her, yet he was omitted from the showcase. It didnt seem fair. I actually use to watch this show at 6:30 in Okla. when i was 14 back in the day, and never understood the showcase criteria since the showdown wasnt on the nighttime version
It is explained every single time the showcase is played, daytime and nighttime. X is the top winner, and Y is the runner up. Top two in total prize value make it. Nothing to do with timing. Same format for EVERY half hour version, including the 25th anniversary in 1996 and the 50 years celebration in 2007. Let's Make a Deal uses the same effective criteria for who plays the Big Deal (although Monty would give preference to cash if the value was close). The potential contestants sign off for it if they wish to be considered.
+BrotherFlounder When syndicated game shows go into summer reruns, the fee plugs have to be replaced. At the time of its original broadcast Rod was not yet announcer. When it went into the repeat cycle, of course, Rod was the announcer, so his is the voice on the fee plugs.
