They Both were so young...They had no Idea about how bad the music industry was...they were all just kids even the ones that were in their 20s at the time
Bet was so positive, educational, and enjoyable back then. But most importantly it was self owned. They've gone downhill so much in comparison to it's wonderful past. Tracie Spencer's soft, melodic voice was so blissful. What a blessing she has. So mature for such a young age. Tender kisses, This House, and later on It's All About You were just favorites.
I was just going to make that comment...glad I'm not alone. The thing that was most impressive was the commercial with positive black roles from all aspects of life in the black neighborhood. This is the BET I saw growing up...truly for the people. I flat out refuse to watch this minstrel show buffoonery that took over.
Right again. It's almost eerie how her look, sound, fast track to stardom, you name reminds so much of Aaliyah (minus the jail bait charges). Would LOVE to her some new ballads from her :-)
LovelyKee Oh yes it was. I don't know what happened the original owners of BET sold it to this one lady that runs it now and it was never the same again. Its like she just changed everything she is over 45 I guessing she should understand how BET was back in the day its like she targeted the network to 25 and younger.
Debra Lee is the CEO, but she doesn't own the company. She's basically a Black figurehead that they put in place to continue marketing to Black people. The founder, Bob Johnson, sold it to Viacom, which is a White company that is out of touch with the positive images that most Black people want to see of themselves. After BET was sold to Viacom at the turn of the millennium, the programming went downhill.
+PlayaPleathe Yep! The good ole' days. But it's to be expected that the network would go downhill after it was sold to those that don't care about the essence of the network.
This was the real BET!! Tracie Spencer was literally my best friend in my head. My mom would hear one of her songs come on and she would say, "Your friend is on!" haha We are actually 1 year apart, so, at that time, I can see why she was so relatable. I actually ran into her one time in Dallas, she was sitting on the side of the stage and I was like...oh my goodness, can I take a picture? I didn't know what to say, but she just smiled sweetly and said yes.
OMG i totally forgot about that BET ad at the beginning. Everything was so respectful and appeared joyous and unified. It's so nice to see us with no sagging pants and tattoos every damn where.....oh to be a young adult again in those days. I miss the 80s and 90s.
Lol.... I met this sweet young lady in 98', when she stop by my job at Music land at in Columbus, Ohio. She was promoting her album all about you. She had a very good spirit about things!. Love u Tracie
Boy i tell y'all B. E. T. surely has changed over the years i really miss the old B. E. T. Its not the same anymore like it was back in the day when real music 🎷 was playing on the radio & TV 📺
I had such a crush on her when I was a kid. Grew up to be a very beautiful woman as I knew she would. Msn I forgot about that commercial, B.E.T. We're coming oooon for youuuu🎶. The youth today will never fully grasp how dope BET was back in the day, its crap now.
Love. I was a teen intern at BET at this time (I was 14) and I do remember Tracie at the studios. Tracie is such a gentle soul. I didn't know she was from Iowa. If you are from Iowa you would know that the entire state is full of sports appreciators. The Hawkeyes are what tne athletic teams and students at The University of Iowa are known as. The University of Iowa is in in Iowa City (about 3 1/2 hours from Chicago, IL). I'm an Iowa Law alum c'2000 :) FYI - did you know that T-Boz from TLC is from Des Moines, Iowa. Also, Nicole Hannah-Jones (the creator of the 1619 project) is from Waterloo, Iowa. Don't sleep on Iowa! ❤ Thank you for uploading this gem!
So nostalgia what happened to BET 😢 I miss those days the box video soul planet groove notarized watching all those hours trying to see who’s the number one video hits from the streetz cita good ole days😩😭
Classic Bob Johnson did and does things with class I wish he still own BET . It’s a shame what it has become well at least we have tv 📺 one ☝️.That was my first time ever seeing that commercial.
Awww tha good ole' days! 🥰💞 I missed Video Soul! This is when B.E.T was B.E.T. Now it's E.B.T channel. I'm glad Tracie Spencer has resurface and she's doing great. I'm an early 80's baby and this bring back so many memories being a child in the late 80's and early 90's singing to Tracie..
Tracie is so Cute though she was older than me back then! I remember already I had liked older Women! now she looks even better today! Tender Kisses era even better! love her tremendous Voice! True Singer she is! this is when BET Was the way BET Was Supposed to be! But I can understand with the times things change Music changes! But this is the Golden Era of R&B days I Sincerely missed dearly! Wow this was 1988?! I remember I was living in the Midwest at the time!
This bought back so many memories......You can tell this was her first interview she was shy & quiet. This was my show back in the day, I watched this every day! I wonder what she's doin in her life now. We need an TVONE Unsung on her.
Zulu swashbuckler. Dat dude he was talking to her like she had a brain in her head and not down to her or at her own her level it is possible to do that with kids without being in a inappropriate or crossing the line you know but hey why would anybody care about that after all nobody really likes kids anymore there just good at pretending like they do and let's be honest some aren't even good at pretending like they do...only time people are interested in kids is if they are dying hurt or bleeding and from what I've been seeing on the news not sure if that much is even true anymore or how long it will remain true...but anyway my she was just a Destin for this‼️
When B.E.T was reflective of Black Excellence Television...😢 i miss it but i know nostalgia comes with age and wisdom cuz you yearn for what you can no longer have
Wow, nice video! I love Video Soul, use to watch everyday but I don't remember seeing this episode so thanks for uploading this clip! I love Tracie Spencer, I was introduced to her with the song This House, I bought her cassette tape, love the song Tender Kisses & all the songs from that album, especially Love Me! She's just 12 years old in this interview, wow, already so talented at such a young age! Probably my favorite song by her is the one she did in 1999 It's All About You. I sure hope she comes back with new music, she was great, such a sweet girl!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I had taped Tracie's interview on VS from her second album. It's amazing how much she grew over those two years! Also, thanks for including that vintage commercial. Brings back such good memories :-)
I can't speak on if Hollyweird wasn't good for her or not. Remember, she grew-up in the industry. her father was in the business as-well. but i agree, the girl was SUPERSTAR Potencial.
So, she was out between 1988 and 1992. Disasppeared. Came back in 1998-1999. And disappeared again (seemingly ever since). What exactly happened with her?! Just seems like she was AWAY more than PRESENT during the past 30 years. Wished she had gotten bigger.
Marcus Rob.......I know. Last time I heard about her she was engaged to one member from Soul Shock and Karlin but they never got married. He married one one the lady's from Brownstown. She needs an Unsung
Mommy D Yes!!! I say that all the time Tracie Spencer should be featured on an Unsung episode. I Google her form time to time but don't get any real info on her like that!
I have her self titled debut album one song is Imagine the John Lennon song wonder what happened to her?????!!!...wish Paula could have been shown I like her..getting back to Tracie I liked that song Hide and Seek I played it a lot and Symptoms of true love catchy it was..like I said wonder what happened to Tracie??????!!!
hey my journey 💫🌎Is too find Tracie Spencer R&B 🎵artist 😂😂and see if shes still alive in the world 🌍and too have an important conversation about Music 🎶 and more interviews 🙂💗💗miss ya 😉
How old was she in that picture. She looked kind of young. I use to listen to Tracy Spencer's music sometimes. And other artist to as well. I love to hear music and that will never change. Pretty much anything from anyone it doesn't matter. Music is music. It's the universal language.
i can see why she would think that being from Waterloo, Iowa would hold her career back. it'd be different if she was from a big-time city such as....... Nutbush, Tennessee? seriously, she should be on Masked Singer though...... or maybe she is?
When bet was real video soul in the basme t with big tig hit makers show case when you can go on there and dance and try to get discovered I had a few friends make it on there
