For track house, that minimal edit to the 1 is perfectly passable for me. For the Skoal 33, man...feels like it's just disrespect to Harry Gant as well as the common sense of any fan who might see the car.

Wouldn't say I'm mad, but I am pretty disappointed they can't run The Bandit for a few laps. Especially after all the work they did on it to make sure it was good to go. Like you said, it's an iconic part of NASCAR history for the fans at the race. They don't even have to show it on tv. Just sucks. Hopefully they can still incorporate it into the throwback weekend in some way.

In 1981 the first year Harry Gant drove the Skoal Bandit, I started pulling for him. I have many great memories of racing because of Gant. In 1982, he was going to be at an autograph signing at the grand opening of popular hardware store back then. I arrive at the advertised start time at 7 pm. To my surprise, I was the only one there. So me and Harry sat there, just us two, and had a wonderful conversation for the next thirty minutes or so. He was so friendly and down to earth and I was scared to death. He invited me to his steakhouse in Taylorsville,NC about 70 miles from my home. He took down my name and told me the dinner would be on him. A couple months passed before I decided to go. He was not there but I told the manager what Harry said, thinking I’d get laughed out of the place. He came back to the table and said Harry had left my name with him and the bill had been paid. To this day my racing friends say it’s BS, but me and Harry know the truth. I’m boycotting the NASCAR HOF until Harry Gant is in there. It ain’t right by God!

I was working for Oldsmobile back when Harry Gant won his 4 races in a row in the Bandit Oldsmobile back in 1991. It was fantastic to see all the fans holding signs saying "life begins at 51" and I am mad that they cannot run this car. I feel so sorry for Justin Marks who tried to do something special for throwback weekend and got squashed. I currently live in Iowa and I am amazed at the number of people that smoke especially ones of age and knowledge that should now be a lot better despite the ban on advertising.

Ticked off too. Never did smoke but loved seeing the SKOL Bandit. Also seeing the Winston Cup decals on the cars, I didn't even think of cigarettes first but the Cup Series. Used to love watching Mr. September Harry Gant in The SKOL Bandit.

Honestly I was wondering how they planned to do this with the tobacco plan in place. I wish you younger guys would have been around 35-40 years ago. It was pretty cool

For the Skoal issue it's a fed regulation, nothing Nascar can do . . . It was a change introduced in 2010. I did like the Benny Parsons SOKAL tribute scheme in the nationwide series.

I'm going to go smoke a cigarette now just to spite nascar for this one. The Skool Bandet was the 2nd coolest car on the track in the 80s and 90s. Behind the Goodwrench 3. The 12 miller high life car and 11 mountain dew were really cool also.

I agree with all you said, maybe dedicate a day for NASCAR legend's car's. In Australia some Peter Brock's cars have Marlboro branding and he's been deceased since 2006.

Trackhouse Racing should bring the car to Darlington ANYWAY and display it in the most high profile area where the most fans can see it! As far as Teresa’s supposed “involvement” in forcing THR into altering the number, screw her and her lawsuit happy attorneys. She keeps digging her own grave, and I say KEEP GOING. Her reputation with the fans can’t get any better, so let her continue ruining it. No one gives a sh!t about her anyway, and she’ll STILL be irrelevant to every Earnhardt fan once this blows over…

On classic lotus F1 cars they call them team lotus special rather than John player special so maybe Justin marks could repaint the Skoal as Harry Gant bandit

harry gant is a stand up man i still have a few die cast car of him even back when he drove from mac tools and have many hats i met and get his audgrape at phoenix race way at the skoals tent and he was still a driver at that time

Id change the a to a o (SKOOL Bandit). The paint colors and pattern are what made the car different.

I went to the Cup race at Darlington in 2016 and took a picture of my dad standing next to an old Harry Gant Skoal car outside the track. They could run it on the track

i dont see how teresa should have any say on how the car looked. if she wanted to be a part of racing she shouldnt have destroyed dei. nascar should tell her she has no say in anything going forward. she no longer owns the number and if the earnhardt family ie dale, kerry, kelly, are ok. well thats fine in my book

I think the sticker and helmets were fine because you can't see them that well live and all. The Bandit though, it's much bigger and the cameras would be focused on it.

Thats insane no way. I just listened to podcast and how fresh Mark's was I was stoked to see this. Even tho last year FOX did not show JR driving pace laps in very expensive throwback he built specifically for Darly. So even tho I was stoked I prolly wouldnt have seen it. Wanted it for Mark's he deserved it seemed elated. PS can't carve into history and logos of skoal bandit and ruin perfectly original car. Removing decals not poss think about it. It's the Feds and not NASCAR, no one needs to be in that hot water. Maybe they got a warning from the 28 deal. Lets Go Justin for trying!! All us Harry Gant fans are proud of what you tried to do. Lets wrap the hood and quarters with "Mr. September" or "The Bandit" and send this thing to the all star race to pace the start of the race. We all know what this car means and what Skoal did for all racing, asphalt, dirt, drag racing, water sports etc.

Winston and skoal helmet Probably allowed because they were contingency sponsors/ small and will hardly be seen where as the bandit car is a large brought out sticker. Alot of grey area. With the trackhouse swoop, personally I like it

Personally I don't mind the trackhouse slash being added to their car its their calling card just like the neon yellow hendrick numbers It just belongs on their cars if you ask me They should at least still put the car on display somewhere like the infield or their garage if they have too

Here's the deal though: the 33 car with Skoal as the primary sponsor can't be allowed on the racetrack due to federal law. The Winston Cup Race Car decal on Dale Sr's car isn't necessarily a sponsor decal. It's a designation for what specific series the car is eligible to run and the specs to which it must adhere.

Love all the throw back paint schemes. But maybe the designer's should have looked to Formula 1. If you look at Ferrari's cars in the past few years you will see what looks to be just a bar code. Since Europe was one of or the first to ban tobacco companies sponsorship on the cars. But the bar code is Marlboro hidden symbol. If I remember correctly it's one of their shell companies. I believe there is other teams with tobacco sponsorship hidden in plain sight. Marlboro has been a long time sponsor for Ferrari.

Was great to see Dick Trickle smoke cigarettes during caution laps. NASCAR didn't dare tell him not to smoke on camera when Winston ran the show.

If you go look around the NASCAR Hall of Fame real closely most of the cars from the early 90s and 80s still have their tobacco sponsors on that there’s a truck Series car Right by the gift shop at the Hall of Fame

I don't think there's a "statute of limitations" on advertisement, or in the federal law. If it was put on the car back then, it's probably still defined as advertisement. Now, if you can get the law changed to reflect it's historical value after 30 years, lets say, then there wouldn't be a problem. Are they allowed to park the car at the entrance of the main grandstands?

Why not take off "Skoal" and use the bandit logo.. most fans will get it. Would they allow that?

It's pretty sad what nascars become, it's always been kind of corporate, witch it needs to be for dollars. But when it gets to a point with things like this and the numbers it really is out of hand. If the car were vintage raced in a series or a track day it wouldn't matter, and they aren't bound by any skoal contract or endorsement so what's the issue? There's alcohol sponsored cars, cars sponsored by drug companies that do harm, political sponsors, sponsors that's thieves like DC solar, aswell as cars fielded by teams for a tax write off or some nefarious acts maybe. So its also very hypocritical. It just shows that nascar isn't what it was and is not ran by people that have an actual appreciation for it, much less just car people. Witch is why things are what they are in that department. If they would focus on being what the series is suppose to be and have a naturally fun atmosphere it would be much more popular, like what it was even 12 years ago. Cars like that are the stars, the 43, 24, 3, 2, etc... all very distinctive looks and numbers that made the sport what it is aswell as the drivers and teams, those looks have their own identity. They definitely came from a different era of time and people that's for sure. A little off topic but damn, its all connected in a way. But covering their ass's from something like a skoal logo is just dumb.

The Winston Cup Museum had a display at Dover up until 2019 before the pandemic and they had Winston branding all over the place. This ban makes no sense.

Skoal is on the car, it doesn't matter if it's paid for or not, it's promoting the brand. I'm sure NASCAR's legal office put the stop as they didn't want to open NASCAR, the track or Trackhouse to get in trouble with the Feds.

Unfortunately is no different than anything else going on and our country over the last decade.. You learn from your past and use it to make better decisions for your future. That's how the world works, well at least how it should work. But that's how everything else works. Engineering, Automotive, manufacturing, life in general. Anyways, such a shame. God bless

Seems lame, especially when we have beer sponsors, kids can't drink (or shouldn't but ask my dad about one sunny day when I was a toddler 😄), but they see those on track. I get it, I understand why that restriction is in place for sports, however this isn't an active car, like Danny said, and it was to honor a legend. It sucks it didn't happen, next time I'd try to find a way to show case the car outside the track.

If Track House privately owns the Skoal 33 car and receives no revenue from US Tobacco to have Skoal on the car it shouldn't be anybody's business. If I want to put Copenhagen decals all over my personal vehicle and drive around I'm not violating any laws. I'm of age and just really like the product. As for the DEI if TE does not own the trademark of that exact font of the #1 she should have been told to pound sand. I doubt Track House wanted to waste the money on lawyers to argue any of this and I can't say I blame them.

I respect the effort by Justin Marks. I don’t know nor understand why he put the information on social media before he had approval to run the car. I understand those that are upset are upset. He kinda pulled a James Koulouast when they announced the LBG coin sponsorship before it was approved.

Unfortunately, Nascar isn't the only spirt changing their respective sports history. Example, the Boston Red Sox changed a street from "Yawkey Way" to "Landsdowne", all because the Red Sox were the last team to bring in a player of African American descent. Tom Yawkey was an important figure who's now completely erased
