Tractor PTO Will NOT Disengage On My Case IH 75C

Tractor problems? PTO issues? I have one for ya... When I pull the lever to disengage my PTO, nothing happens! It just keeps on running. In this video, we are going to attempt to troubleshoot this problem and hopefully come up with a solution. I need to use my bush hog to cut the field and with this going on I could be stuck! I use the 3150 Rhino 15' batwing for cutting and the PTO drives it. Fingers crossed this is not a huge expense! I also learn more about my Case IH 75C warranty. It's good news!

Hope you get this figured out. Really nice tractor and flex wing! I have always been taught to engage and disengage the pto at slower rpm’s. Like a riding mower, low rpm’s and then engage, then bring the throttle up to full song. I really like that you are blowing off the cutter’s deck, that will help tremendously in keeping it from rusting. The one thing I don’t understand is why you don’t have many subscribers? Channel content is great, and I think you should have more than what you do. The one thing I have noticed is under the title of the video, there are no hashtags. Example: #case75c #rhinoflexwing Try that and see if that gets peoples attention. Man, I really enjoy these videos and this is truly “The Lovely Place”. Hope this helps! I’ll just reaffirm what other people have posted. I was also taught it’s proper to engage and disengage your PTO at as low as engine RPM as possible. Keep up the good work!!!

The blades on the bush hog are a centrifugal motion. It needs to be slowed to stop and gradually sped up to run. The repair man was right about that. Good channel you got here.

Exactly the same. Tractor won’t start if it thinks PTO is engaged. My dealer says they’ve fixed four of them. Also on my 75A there is no way to slow roll or soft start PTO. Dealer says they are working on a fix with CASE, but no solution yet. I have to max RPM’s to use my batwing!

I have a 2019 NH Workmaster 75 and it just did the same thing to me last night. I have been mowing for weeks in 2-3 hour stints without issue, but last night in this crazy high heat it would not disengage when I finished mowing for the night. Shut it down and went back in an hour and it was fine.....

Always engage the PTO at the lowest RPM setting that will not stall out the tractor. If you continue to engage in high RPM something will break one day. As far as disengagement, it’s better to disengage at a slower rpm as well, but not as detrimental as when engaging. Adjust the linkage.. Good luck with this

Alright guys. I have the same tractor. The problem is 1 of 2 things. Either the cable isn't well adjusted and it wont push or pull. Or, the retainer coupling is loose and came off. To fix the issue, get under the tractor on the left side, behind the fuel tank. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. 99% of the time it's the coupling. Its floating on the shifting cable. Reach up and move the actuator forward to disengage the PTO. To get the coupling back on, its a 4mm alan socket. You'll need an extension to reach it. Maybe let the tractor cool down a little also, there isn't much room and it can get hot.

Great info on this video! I have the same tractor with a slightly different issue. My pto light stayed on but the physical pto went off/on just fine. However when parking it i cannot start it since the light is on. After watching this video i discovered these allen bolts loose and movement in the coupling. I tightened this up and closed the physical gap however my light stays on. I'm wondering if i have an electrical switch problem but not sure what's triggering the light.

Awesome Video. Thanks for taking the time to do it. Took me right where our problem was. Tools you need are a 4mm Allen 1/4” bit and then a 1/4” bit ratchet (#11205). I got mine at O’Reilly’s in the checkout line. Love it. Made it so easy to get it tightened back up in the tightest spot.

So couple of things to help you understand what is happening. First, engaging the PTO at high rpm’s is really locking in the gear. Pto engagement is not like a car with pressure plates etc. Think of it like a 2 interlocking hands or angled teeth locking against each other. So if you do that at 540, it really locks them together with a lot of force. That is why you have shear pins or slip clutches. Because it is a hard and fast gear engagement and nothing will slip. So it will take a bit of force to disengage. And again the disengagement has to actually slightly rotate faster to open up the gear because of overcoming the angle of the teeth. So if you already rotating the implements at max rpm’s there is too much resistance to disengage the teeth. To see this in practice if next time you have a problem, if you disengage at 540, leave it disengaged and quickly drop the rpm’s and it will disengage. The implements momentum will help the disengage. But I don’t think if you will ever see the problem again if you engage at 1200-1300 rpm’s.

I have a Case 45C and found your channel from the video when you got the 75C and Batwing. Mine is just a ROPS with a canopy as my step-son said we didn't need a cab.... mmhmm, we will see if he is correct or not. As our case is smaller we have a Rhino TW26 for our cutter and I have always engaged PTO at a lower RPM, don't think I even could tell you the specific RPM (normally just by sound of the engine) and then increased to 540. I have heard some people kick it up to 540 and let her hunt and never have a problem, so who is right and wrong??? Who knows... Enjoy your video's and it is great to see the place coming together, keep them coming!!!

Hi there, I've got the same problem with my New Holland T4020, which is basically the same tractor (only done 1,400 hours). As mentioned, the PTO will engage and disengage fine when the oil is cool, however once you've been working for a while with it, it won't disengage as the oil is hot. One way around this is to manually press the safety switch under the cab. It's directly underneath the cab, just under the right side door. A lever presses down onto a button which has a spring on it - you should be able to see this by looking in from the right under the cab. Just press it manually and it will work - the PTO will switch itself off. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure how your tractor is equipped but, when unfolding i believe you should shove the hydraulic lever too a float position so that when the wings are fully down then the cylinders will be able to move to allow the wing to flex on uneven terrain.

I have a big 15ft batwing that really puts a strain on the tractor when I first engage the PTO. What I learned to do is to engage the PTO at low RPM for a brief moment just to get the blades spinning, quickly disengage so as to not bog down the tractor, and then gently engage the PTO again to spin the blades up a little faster, quickly disengage and give the tractor a moment to recover, and then finally engage the PTO for the last time. This on/off, on/off routine with the PTO seems to get the mower up to speed without stalling or putting strain on the tractor.

I have never engaged or disengaged any pto powered equipment at full 540 rpm nor have I ever seen anyone do that before it’s just extremely hard on the tractor the slip clutches the shafts just everything

I have a New Holland T4.75 with the exact same problem. My cable has been been adjusted/tightened the past two springs. Now the cable is all tight, but will not disengage. My theory is that the shop that worked on mine has tried to adjust the cable without taking anything off the tractor to gain adequate room to access the parts. So they half-arse the adjustment and it doesn’t last. It’s simply an unreliable design. People don’t understand that the tractor will stall if you try to engage the pto at or near idle. There is simply too much mass to get up to speed.Good luck with it.

It is a shame that you are having to deal with that. As of now, mine has been working fine. Once he came out and basically pried on the linkage, it has not had an issue. I agree it will bog down and stall if idled too low. I think I have found a sweet spot to engage and disengage now. I sure wish you the best. Please let me know what happens in your situation. You have got to learn to start and stop you PTO at minimal rpm, regardless of what they tell you. I have Case IH, Kubota and next month a Massey, manual, hydraulic and electronic PTO but regardless always engage and disengage at low RPM.

CASE IH has really gone downhill since they started buying tractors made in Turkey and Italy. When they were USA made and made in Doncaster, they were the best thing going.

It is common sense to engage the pto at low rpms and disengage at low rpms. Why would you not do that?

Thanks for your comment. Common sense is sometimes uncommon. Prior to working on this homestead the only pto engagement I have done in my life was on a mower. I never knew to do it at a low rpm and was never shown or asked and never had any issue or reason to question it. The way anyone learns anything is to ask, read, or be taught, etc. Now I know. Glad I asked before I caused any problem. I asked because my common sense was saying, something is not right when I do this. I could tell it didn't feel right. Be patient with me, I'm doing my best to do things right. You don't know what you don't know, until you know.

I have the same tractor, I wasn't even using the PTO and the warning/engagement light came on as if I was using the PTO. Naturally I shut the engine off to see what the problem was with the PTO shaft. I go back in the cab turn it on and the PTO warning is still on, now my Tractor wont start. My question is this, did the linkage come loose underneath or something and it turned the light on ?

That’s a good question. My tractor never had the issue again after the service tech messed around with the linkage as seen in the video. I am still at a loss but thankful it’s okay for now. the tractor will start the hog at a ideal if the blades are not trying to cut material, you have to be lite on the leaver feather it in. When disengaging the same at a idel this takes pressure off the PTO drive letting it easley disconnect. From the questions you were asking the mechanic I would bet you've never drove a straight shift vehicle so you have no concept of what's going on inside the tractor.

None of my cars have had a PTO, lol so this part is brand new to me but the way I learn things that I don't know is just try, ask questions, read, etc. So I think I have this all about figured out now. @@TheLovelyPlace It may have in fact been the allen screw by the fuel tank as it was slightly loose. I didnt see him fix anything in your video. What do you think solved the actual problem.

Hey buddy, I hope this helps but if you watch that video, he messed with the linkage he put a bar up in there and move the linkage around. He really didn’t think he did anything but since that day it has never had the problem again. So I would really look closely at that linkage when he got under the tractor if I were you.hope this helps. Good luck.

The problem has never happened since the service tech came out and attempted his fix as seen in the video. I have also began dropping the rpm prior to engage and disengaging the pto. Good luck to you.

However, since that day, I’ve not had one single issue, so I’m just hoping that whatever he did accidentally worked. My fingers are crossed that it will not happen again. I wish I had a bit better answer.

@@TheLovelyPlace According to my dealer, something gets stuck in the aluminum piece due to the high temperatures while mowing, he advises me to spray it with WD 40, I will try it. Thank you for the response

That won’t fix it. Mine does the same thing no matter the implement when it gets hot. Has nothing to do with how you engage the pto.
