I started with soil propagation right away. I put cuttings in soil. Watered it once and after about 10 days it had enough roots. Now I water whenever leaves look a little wrinkly and dull. I bought one hanging basket and already propagated it to produce 4 times more plants. And this in just about 2 months. I do recommend it to anyone who wants to start a house jungle that's easy to grow and look nice. I slept on it for a long time. If I knew how easy it is to care for I would have started with it years ago.

this is one of my favorite plants. I find it much better with this one to just soil prop the clippings. pop them right back in the pot. they seem to grow faster then in water. usually see new growth in a week or so

I was just telling my husband how they were starting to be a "problem". From one cutting I got 3 months ago, I now have 4 full plants! Gorgeous plants, and they do kind of shimmer.

As an invasive species I wouldn't recommend disposing of unwanted cuttings outside in the compost, they will grow and take over your entire garden

Austin, thank you for your very informative video. I love Tradescantia plants and have owned and propagated many of them for several years. They are very easy to propagate. When the Tradescantia plant is not receiving enough light the leaves lose the purple color and turn to green. Either way they are beautiful plants.

I picked up some leaves off the floor off of the stores floors with permission I asked if I could have them and they said yes I could. So I brought them home and planted them with my peace lilly and so they grew roots and I put them in my new flower pots and now they are not doing well. I dont know what I done to them. I just transplanted them and watered them thats all I done. So what could you tell me I need to do to help them and yes I am a beginner. My poor plant... I cant believe they are dying on me now.

I have never had a successful water propagation, with any of tradescantia that I have. Always just put them in straight dirt and off they go
@asianddrmaniac
@asianddrmaniac 2 года назад
I've always had success with water, could be something in the water. But! I've also begun to put them straight into dirt and can confirm on my side that it works about as well. It's great for if you have a ton of plant matter to work with and... at this time I absolutely do. Toward the time of this recording though, I had very little to work with. I'd say for anyone who's working for cuttings -- still propping with water first is my go to. But, if you can stand to lose leaves then straight to dirt is so much easier

I propagate all of my Tradescantias by just sticking the fresh cuttings directly into soil. Keeping the soil quite moist for the first few weeks. I have yet to lose any cuttings that way and it's so easy.

I have two huge zebra plants that were growing so beautifully, high, and regal, but I took them inside because of seasonal weather conditions, and they drooped so terribly. What in the world??? I am crushed. I bought them over the summer, and they did really well, but now.... 🙄😔

@rodb335
@rodb335 10 месяцев назад
I like the video but I gotta say I've had this plant rooting in a glass jar of water In a corner of over 500 plants. It Ran out of water and sat there waterless for a year. It wasn't looking good but I could still see signs of life so I put some more water in the jar and quickly. It began to grow new leaves. The area does have high humidity but that was impressive either way. The way I propagate my now is chop off the bottom half or top half If you will of my hanging basket with a massive amount of plant matter. I chuck the entire Bundle into a tub of water I change it after the 1st day as I do with all my water cuttings. And then once it roots, I chopped the plan up and Pot them up. I think this is an excellent method. For a lot of plants and good information, a very easy to watch video I didn't enjoy it. However I think you've done way too much here for this. Extremely extremely, extremely. Easy to Propagate invasive plant. I have a love-hate relationship with this plant. I love it because it Is beautiful but I hate it because it grows too well.

@christinak9587
@christinak9587 2 года назад
Try just sticking the fresh cuttings right into soil instead of rooting them in water first. I do this with all of my Tradescantias and I have yet to lose ANY cuttings and it's so easy. The soil has to stay quite moist for the first few weeks though.
