TRAIL BEAST!! 2022 Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road *First Drive* 

This is the best off-road video I've seen of the new Tundra. I really like the SR5 off-road. Hopefully this is in my price range.

The most off road I get with my 2016 Tundra Limited is when I back into the boat ramp.👍. I bought my Tundra for pulling capability and having room for family to get to lake with gear.👍😀

So glad I found this video. It's got me stoked about the change we made today. The 2021 Platinum we put a down payment on is stuck in inspection limbo, so we opted for the 2022 SR5 with the TRD Off-Road Premium package in red (though that Army green ain't bad!). Essentially the same price, but with lots more bells and whistles. Like you, we'll be looking to modify that chrome grill surround with a color match. And we'll likely do a 3" lift to go for some beefier tires and blacked-out rims. Can't wait to drive this baby!

Finally they fixed the back seat under storage and added storage behind the seat as well! That alone might help me to live with the fact I might not be able to get a '21 with a bench seat. Come on Toyota! Now add the bench seat!!

Amazing. Thank You for this. That chrome has to go, but overall left a great impression. I’ve now seen this trd off road with these predator running boards in the video but also in some photos with flat ford raptor style running boards which I think look way better, do you know what will be available with this trim?

If I were to buy one this is the trim I'd want. SR5 w/ TRD OR. I could do without the leather but that big screen is pretty snazzy

Looks like Toyota hit the nail with this build. I'll still keep my current 19 off-road for a while but at least I'll know what's next

Specked this exact model (base sr5 with base trd off-road package and the crew max 5.5ft bed for under 48ish. Good deal for a new pickup imo

A black or color matched grille surround would go great with the black badging. Dump the chrome and you have a winner.

This answers the question I had, I like the looks of the SR5 TRD Sport better but I want the TRD Off Road package, I really wish they would not have gone with chrome around the grill. I prefer the blacked out wheels on the Sport also. Ugh…

Is this the TRD package or the TRD Premium Package? I am thinking the TRD Premium based on the larger screen and the softex seats.

The color configuration option on Toyota's site shows the SR5 TRD off-road with black door handles. This video shows color matching handles. Which is right?

Any idea if you can get the "Tech Package" with the SR5 Sport TRD? I'm thinking that's the route I would go and then I would just have to attach some fender flares.

I would dump the steps and add rock rails and more aggressive off road tires maybe 2 inches taller. But this truck looks a real budget deal. They will be continually be sold out. Thanks

That crawl mode is so much more quiet than the previous gen.

What options did this truck have? I cannot stand chrome and noticed this doesn’t have chrome door handles, whereas the other TRD off roads I’ve seen are.

Hey Jon. I’ve seen this off road trim with the TRD branded heated steering wheel and also just a plain steering wheel like in your video, do you know if the trd steering wheel is an available extra accessory?

Needs more aggressive tires for off road. Also you generally can't get the good colors except in the high end packages

Almost all the dealers I called are marking up the PRO 10k. Keeping that in mind you could add new rims, tires, suspension and replace the grill and still save a lot of money.

Hi Jon. Please provide a measurement between the wheel wells inside the bed of the new Tundra. Is it wider between the wheel wells than the outgoing 2021 Tundras? Demonstrate the new navigation system using voice commands. Enter a new destination and intentionally miss a turn to let us see how she reacts. Does the navigation have a 3D setting? Play Leona Lewis Bleeding Love on an upgraded JBL system and crank it up so we can hear the quality of the system. How many watts is the JBL system? Is there an aerial antenna or just a shark fin? Does the FM radio have good reception? Are there any AUX inputs to the Infotainment center? With all windows closed, travel down the interstate and crank up the HVAC fan to high and describe the air circulation. With the fan on high, describe how loud it is. Better yet, leave the fan on high, play Leona Lewis again and tell us if you can still hear her clearly. After doing all the above slam on the brakes and tell us how the anti lock brakes feel. Can it stop on a dime and pick it up too? What brand tire is coming on the Limited models? Please tell us there are no Good Years allowed. Demonstrate the functionality of the cleats on the bed rail system. What is the size of the glove box? On the Limited models, Which windows and mirrors have defrost ? How does the ventilated seats feel when the air is flowing thru them? Is there more than 1 setting for seat air flow? Do the rear seats on the Limited model have ventilation? Never had Softex before... does it feel like soft leather? Please demonstrate the sequential rear turn signals in action... Turn on the emergency flashers so we can see that too. Is it possible to disable that crazy engine shut off feature when we come to a stop? Andre said the drivers seat bottom feels short.. Does the 2022 Tundra have a shorter seat bottom vs. the 2021 Tundra? Andre is a sasquatch and would not fit properly in a human seat. The grab handle is back on the drivers side for 2022... Does it get into your peripheral view very much? How many airbags in the 2022 model? Please describe the premium head light option that is available in the power package.

Which seat option was this? I’m not a huge fan of leather (or really need it) but sometimes cloth with kids and dogs can be hard upkeep.

I really hope they give us a paint matched grille like they do in the TRD OR Tacoma .

Toyota/Tundra n00b here...Do the Tundras come with remote start?

I have almost an identical build currently sitting on a rail car waiting for delivery. My dealership is sending mixed signal about my suspension. I ordered the SR5 TRD offroad premium package with mine so I planned on lifting it but the parts dept are saying I have a load leveling height control suspension with a compressor after running my vin so I can’t lift it but sales and service don’t see anything on my build sheet except “coil multi-link rear suspension”. Any knowledge of the TRD offroads having the air suspension?

Just got off the phone with my salesman. The TRD off road starts at 50k. To add the convenience package, which is all the extra safety crap (lane assist, blind spot camera, sensors... Etc) $2500 more. This trim doesn't even include the 14" entune screen. Only had the standard 8". That's a huge letdown... I could go pick it up on Saturday, but I may pass on it.

Maybe I missed it but do we know any gear ratios for different trims?

This SR5 TRD off road is the same trim and color I would get, but I wish it had the same body-color trim as the TRD sport. I just HATE chrome so much, especially on an off road truck. It's out of place on this type of truck and Toyota should know better. That said, the SR5 with the TRD off road package should be decently priced for what you get.

This is the only video I see where the SR5 has leather as an option.

Honestly the green is sweet but this army green doesn’t go Wut by chrome well. I’d rather see a timberland mica green with some flakes to go with the chrome. Does the rear locker work in 2wd?

Come on Toyota, give the people what they want if you want 50k for one of these trucks. Offer a full chrome delete from the factory. Such an easy thing, to solve a major issue people have with the ridiculous chrome.
