The day started out well enough. Our plan was to primarily explore Wild Horse trail along with some off shoots. We entered Bush Lite West, just east of Wild Horse, and then joined up with Wild Horse. A little way further we ended up on Big Sister for a short distance, then merged back onto Wild Horse for the duration of the trip out. Less than 30 min into the ride, my front tire washes out from under me as I'm descending into an arroyo. In the bottom of the arroyo there was a little gully washed out, about 18 inches deep. I stuck my right shoulder right into that washout, stopping hard as my shoulder hit the opposite bank, and slammed the side of my head into the top of the back. I knew I had possibly done serious damage to my shoulder. I suspected that I partially detached my colar bone from my shoulder. But I decided to continue riding for as long as I could. I was determined that I hadn't driven all that way, just to turn around and go home. I pushed through until I couldn't power my way up the hills anymore without my shoulder zapping me every time I pulled on the handle bars to get leverage down to the pedals. Although painful, the rest of the ride was fun. Downhill especially, since I didn't have to pull on the bars to keep moving.
I'm hoping the injury isn't a season ender. However, surgery might be in my future. I'm gonna have to come back and get back on the horse or trail that threw me.
