After years of abuse on my body doing powerlifting and venturing to strongman caused me some issues. As a firefighter now I struggle to try to lose weight because I’m 300 and still have the muscle mass from competing but being 300 plus as a firefighter sucks big time

Spot on Matt. I’m 23 yrs deep on the fire truck and boy does your body take a beating. We are expected to preform for 30 years!! It’s to damn long and should be outlawed. I did 2 jobs for 15 years on the side too. Sure as hell can’t do what I could do from 25-35. Now 45 and 4 operations on both shoulders and knees. You are so right about getting guys to buy into longevity!!! Most eat like shit and have no clue how to train. I wish I would have never trained with weights like a mad man too!! Not many around to teach like you. As I lay here at the station popping Celebrex cause I’m wrecked.

Matt Wenning is giving the best training information on RU-vid in my opinion

Probably one of the most informative Table Talk podcasts, and that’s saying a lot with some of the people Dave has had on.

I love how the people Dave has on talk about the importance of longevity. I don't hear any of the people who train solely for aesthetics talk about continuing to train in your 50's and beyond.

It's not about aesthetics vs strength, it's about understanding bodily function as a whole. Bodybuilders, fitness models, it doesn't matter - any resistance training athlete needs just as much attention to their longevity

So awesome hearing this conversation. I work in the tactical setting with H2F. All thus is true.

0:27 I’m an ER nurse and deadlift 700 squat 515, when we transfer patients over the medics and firefighters are like “ooooohhhkaaay ya ready?” Then I just lift them up and put them on the gurney. FF: “woah”

There's a firefighter at my gym who doesn't powerlift for the reason you mentioned. He's got to be able to do a physical job until he's able to ready and he said he doesn't want to risk injury

I’m a first responder for 15 yrs. Being a patrol deputy I was more in shape then I am now sitting behind a desk a majority of the day as a detective! I gotta save myself before it’s too late

I'd start with calisthenics, it's a great way to get into it and you can do them anywhere. It's a fun rabbit hole to jump down when finding new exercises or learning the forms / techniques. Keep in mind, Slow and perfect-form routines. If you're too good might be worth it to get some resistance bands to make the movements harder. 💪🐺🔥 Best tip: Find that goal or reason to pursue fitness. Wish you the best bruther 🔥💯🔥

Get a workout in before or after your shift or like the other guy said do some calisthenics. 30 minutes a day is decent enough for some maintenance

@@P60B40 what’s crazy is when I was on patrol it seems like I had more time to go to the gym working 12 hr shifts cause I did a 2/3 split schedule now I work 8 hr days but mon-Friday.

25,000 to 30,000 steps a day. And cycling 🚴‍♀️. It keeps super lean and your stamina is athlete mode year round. Weight room slows you down work on your boxing skills power KO shots.

pulling a morbidly obese patient out of an apartment building when the stretcher can't fit in the elevator = permanent back issues for many a first responder
