City Thameslink is one of the quieter stations located on the Thameslink core, between Farringdon and Blackfriars. Despite its fairly low passenger numbers, it is perhaps one of the most central rail stations in London.
I spent a little under an hour here but still managed to capture a huge amount of trains, and for once in the Thameslink Core, a little bit of variety - more on this later!

387s use to run on thameslink but where replaced by 700s like the 377 and 319s the 387s where only on thameslink for a little as there was a delay in delivery of the class 700s

I'm surprised they just used some spare great northern and Gatwick express trains coupled and then just letted it run on Thameslink

Nice video! I was doing some spotting at Kent house and I saw a Thameslink 700 to West Hampstead, any ideas what it was doing there?

Thanks! Not too sure - in the (very) early mornings and late evenings some Thameslink services do run to Sevenoaks via Herne Hill and Beckenham Junction. If it was during the day, it’s likely to have been a diverted Sevenoaks service.

I’m not 100% sure. In the past Gatwick Express and Southern have sent their Class 387s and 377s to Hornsey for wheel turning (Selhurst doesn’t have a wheel lathe) so it’s likely to be another case of this.

ncl trains switch power at finsbury park also southern north of shepards bush i think

Southern do indeed change power north of Shepherds Bush, in between two stations. NCL trains change power at Drayton Park.

Curious. Has Gatwick Express 387s ever substituted for a Thameslink train?

Back in the day when the 387/2s were just being introduced, they actually ran with Thameslink for a period of time. It would have been possible to see 387/2s running Bedford-Brighton services at the time.
