I had a trans female classmate in college. I asked her her preferred pronouns after class one day. So then I made sure to use them. Then next day in class someone made a big scene out of correcting me being like "how dare you misgender someone like that" (even though he was the one misgendering her) and kept going on about how I was a terrible person while we were writing on the board. I literally cried when I got back to my seat. People just shouldn't bother correcting others if they don't know what they're talking about.

"Being gendered correctly" hit home with me. A few years ago my truck broke down, so I had to call for roadside assistance. I said "thank you, sir" to the tow driver, who smiled like he was delighted to have been called "sir." This is how he presented on first glance - a closer look and I noticed definite feminine traits being masked. Others may think I made a mistake, but I know that the person helping me presented as a man.

I'm coming out as genderfluid to my parents tonight. Wish me luck... Edit: So I replied to some of the comments asking for an update but not everyone saw it so I thought I'd put how it turned out as an edit instead. Basically the response was okay. I have two moms so when I came out to them as pan, they were 100% accepting but coming out as trans was... different. One of my moms though it was just because I have low self esteem. The other was totally fine with it though. As you can see, it's been a year so they're pretty much cool with it now but it took them a while to start using my chosen name. Anyway, all around things were good :) Thank you all for the responses and support
Mr. mystery Umm dude , I don’t think ALL toilets will be gender neutral but saying something like that about a person who’s happy that there are people who are now more comfortable with who they are and don’t have to wait till the toilets are empty to go in, is very rude !

And the binary ones had these nice metal plates with te gender sign. But the neutral bathroom had paper stuck on, with one falling off. It can be hard evven when we get it, stop thinking kids are literally just perverts because thinking that is shitty.

I have a lot of friends who aren’t Cis and getting the pronouns or name wrong is the worst feeling in existence. I am cis (I think... maybe) and I support everyone 100% (Your all valid and anyone who says your not can die). Props to your friend for caring and being amazing

I still think about that time like 4 years ago when I first got a haircut and I got confused for a guy at a play and was chosen to ask a question as "the boy with the red sweater" and I was so giddy and wanted to pass it off until my friend at the time said "no that's a girl". It was my first time actually feeling euphoric, but ofc I had no idea and thought it was normal to feel good when being confused for the opposite sex. I was so wrong.

"Elder Trans Folks" Is the one I relate to the most. My boyfriend and I actually went to starbucks and I gave my name. It backfired, Either the barista was too tired or didn't hear me because she wrote "Jill" instead of Joe. At that time I was too shy to say anything about it once my boyfriend corrected her she kept apologizing. Since then I've gotten a bit more courageous and corrected people about my name though I'm still to shy to correct people about my gender and on occasion when my boyfriend catches it he corrects them. We've had several people ignore my boyfriend's protests unless they are from the LQBGT community. Excuse me if I didn't spell that right I always get the letters mixed up no matter how hard I try not too.

Could you talk more about the science behind being trans? You've sort of mentioned it a few times but I think it'd be cool if you talked about more in depth, especially with how good you are at explaining things

Sad to report that I'm not good :( my doctor wanted to call today to sort everything out to get my top surgery covered but he didn't call. Not like I had to reschedule my surgery before and now completely panic because I don't want to reschedule again but I guess that's just life... Life sucks

I'm gender fluid and when i'm feeling more masculine my voice tends to drop... especially the last couple months cause my hormones are balancing... I get misgendered a ton going through the drive through. I'm called sir or mister a lot.. i'm a 21 year old girl... yes it makes me cry (i'm doing better with it)
