I’m trans and in the UK, and the UK is currently also getting more hostile. They’re trying to take trans people out of the protections of the Equalities Act 2010 - that’s the anti-discrimination law we have - and access to gender affirming care normally takes over 10 years on the NHS. I hope trans people in the US get some improvements, and if you’re thinking of moving to Europe then don’t pick the UK.
@neon17.08
@neon17.08 Год назад
Thankfully I live in NZ where the exact opposite is happening, we are currently awaiting an amendment of the Human Rights Bill to extend the protections of trans and nonbinary people and to change "sex" to "gender identity and expression". So far I don't see us going backwards. We have had some ridiculous far right parties come up but most of them are small.

The Equalities Act currently treats the word "gender" interchangeably with the word "sex". The recommendation that you are complaining about is a recommendation to make it clear that those are not the same thing. Which is what your side believes, is it not?
@actualgoblin
@actualgoblin Год назад
@@martind2520The two are different, but closely intertwined. After all, about 99% of people's biological sex will align with their gender. When people transition, they typically seek to appear as a member of the opposite sex, as that means they're more likely to be recognized as their identified gender. Not everything has to be so black and white.

I'm a trans woman who had to flee Montana last year. At the time, I was only blocked from changing my gender marker on my birth certificate, but the governor was firmly stating that come that November, he would sign ANY anti-trans legislation that passed his desk. I was terrified by this, so I left nearly everything behind, including my amazingly loving and supportive parents, to flee to Washington state. I literally refer to myself as a trans refugee as a result. I now live with a fabulous trans partner and also a trans roommate, so we're like trans to the 3rd power.

tbh I don't think it'll last much longer. the right is finding that trans shit doesn't work as well to rile their base up as abortion did. they're the dog that caught the car and now they're probably really regretting actually killing roe v wade. the endless struggle to ban abortion was the perfect carrot on a stick for their base, and now they have to find something else that's equally effective. trans rights ain't it. most people just don't give a fuck about us one way or another. there's too few of us and we're largely too boring and nonthreatening. "trans people existing" doesn't make cons froth at the mouth like "baby murder" does.

Can't get refugee status with other countries unless this bs goes national in every state. Otherwise if you have the means and money then you can go now. But some of us need to stay behind, be visible, and fight this thing tooth and nail. Even if we end up having to flee to sanctuary states. Staying here and visible is important. I don't speak for everyone, not trying to, but if we all leave, they win. Who will fight the good fight? Who will even try? Be safe. You are in a good place, but if you can stealth and you have all your paperwork in order, then you might consider going full stealth and helping out trans kids and the rest of the community more covertly --in plain sight. Ultimately do what you need to do for safety, but also consider the good you can do if you didn't leave.

I may not be transgender myself, but my beloved girlfriend is. And although the circumstances of our relationship is somewhat strange, I feel compelled to share it. I'll be returning to the US after living in Mexico since I was ten years old. I'll be moving back to Colorado, because that is where my cousin's, who are immigrant workers, are so the hope is I'll land a job in construction with them. My girlfriend, she lives in Canada and is currently transitioning, taking estrogen pills. Our relationship is not conventional, as pretentious as that might sound to say. We'd been roleplaying for an entire year before we even started talking, so it took us a full year to even know what to call each other. But our friendship has morphed into a beautiful relationship. I've spent entire nights awake to be there for her while she was venting to me about her gender dysphoria, identity issues, emotional issues. And she has done the for me when I vent about my trauma, financial issues, and my own identity issues regarding race, religion, nationality, sexuality. We have a special connection, despite it being through a phone screen. I love her dearly, and I know she loves me so too. We've spent entire nights goofing off and being sappy, entire nights sharing sadness and fears, so many intimate moments. We're both passionate about art in different forms, we both know we are oddballs but we embrace it. And now the hope is that with me finally moving out of Mexico, we could meet each other and become a couple in person. There was a hope this year that she would be able to stay in Nashville, Tennessee for a while with a friend and I could move in with them, but with the anti-trans bills being passed there that hope has been dashed. I was hoping to get in on an immigration program to Canada this year, but I didn't meet the requirements since I have no official work experience and only reached highschool. That hope was dashed. She mentioned maybe visiting for some time in Colorado, but I truly worry for her if she does come here, because I see things like this, all the dangers and propogandism that trans people face in the US, and I worry for her safety. I will be there when she's with me and it'd be the most joyful day of my life. But we're both objects of hatred, her being trans and me being brown. I WILL meet her one day, we will go to a concert together, we will have our first kiss, I WILL be there to hold her in my arms one day, that be in the US, Canada, or wherever. She is my beloved. And it's sad to see the things that just her very being has to face, a facet of her humanity being accused of such horrible things, being feared into the closet. I can sympathize, as my mother was dealt a horrible hand as she was an illegal immigrant to the US. And I will face the same troubles in different forms, despite being a citizen. But I do still hold hope despite it all, that no matter how many laws they pass, there will always be a place where we prosper. There will always be an underground for us. And that no matter how many laws they pass, and lives they ruin, even if we don't see it in our lifetimes, that the future generations will become more accepting of you, of us, of basic humanity. That one day a couple like me and my beloved would be able to roam freely mimimal fear. That anti-trans sentiment wouldn't dash their hopes, that they wouldn't have to search for a place away from home to feel safe. But in a way, I find comfort in living in this time too. On a personal level, my beloved and I, we have talked entire nights about this, a relationship spanning three countries, all this worry but all this passion, we have a story to tell. Our relationship is a story in the making, in a transitory time in US history, like the love stories of the 60s. I'm getting sentimental here, but seeing this really hit a nerve, despite already knowing it. To see my transgender compatriots have to deal with all this, it's saddening. But still, we have to remain hopeful. I think of it like this, my mother suffered greatly so that I could prosper. Her work has lead me to being able to now have a chance to pursue something as grand as heading to a country farther away. But I will still suffer, but it will be worth it, because maybe my suffering will contribute to the generation after mine having better prospects than I ever did or could achieve. To prosper despite the odds, that is how change happens. And I hope that for the future generations, we will have made the steps for them to prosper beyond what we could. So that one day a relationship like mine and my dear love's wouldn't have to face what we are and will. Excuse the rambling and melodrama, I think about this a lot. My adult life has barely begun, I'm nineteen. But, well, this is the life we have, it's ours to do what we can with it. In good hopes, in spirit. That's the story that I'm in the beginning chapters of, and I hope that it's of some use to whoever will read it. Stay strong, my fellow people. We are all one humanity

I’m a trans man in Georgia. My mom is the biggest supporter ever. She said that if a law passed that stopped me from getting my healthcare, she would move away with me in a heartbeat. The law that bans trans healthcare for minors passed a month or two after I turned 18, so I’m technically not affected. I still feel deeply unsafe here and want to move away, but I’m starting college and in-state tuition with scholarships is the most affordable option right now. I want to save money and use it to go to college in Ireland, but I’m so scared that a law will pass in the next 4 years banning all gender affirming care. That would run me out of my home, cut off my affordable education, and definitely use up the money I’d rather save for moving out of the US entirely. I’m so scared and depressed. I know I’m not alone here but it really feels that way sometimes. And I don’t even have it that bad!! Some of my high school friends are minors and now can’t access the healthcare they need! And my neighboring trans siblings in Florida and nearby Missouri are struggling so hard. We just have to live to the next day right now. To all my trans siblings, my heart is with you

I only just recently discovered that I'm trans and it honestly couldn't have come at a worse time with the worst anti-trans laws literally having been just around the corner. I'd already had it in mind to leave Florida and go up to Seattle to live with my partner, but my discovery suddenly heft a massive urgency onto it. I'm lucky to at least have a place to go and some semblance of security to which I can flee, but it'll still be a while until I can actually make the move and it'll be quite the trek and adjustment to make. As much as I hated it here in the first place, I'm still sad to have to leave so much behind, but I can't both exist as who I am and do the things I want to do here. I hope DeSantis stays as far away from an elected office as possible once his term is up. He's made the place objectively worse to live for absolutely everyone and decimated the one industry that actually keeps the damn place running; people WILL remember who did it and the party he was a part of when he did.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely I'll be able to move out of the state any time soon as my anxiety has prevented me from learning how to drive. I'm trans and recently moved from Texas to Oregon. Leaving the state was something I wanted to do for years but really started getting worried about it when Greg Abott pulled a list of people from the DMV; I am 100% on that list if any information was actually obtained. I tried to get assistance from work to relocate, but they ended up firing me about 6 weeks after I asked for help. After that I made it a full time job to find a new position in blue states as well as a place to live. After finding a place, I uprooted my entire life, and spent my life savings to move the largest distance I've ever done within the span of 3 weeks.

I have a stable professional job of the past 16 years, and job hopping is not at all secure in one's fifties. So do I hold out 6 more years, when I'll turn 62, or do I take a leap nowish? Oh, and, I have a 20 year old I am supporting, who is halfway through college. (No pressure.) Ultimately I am eying southern Illinois, where there are still some safe small towns with low cost of living, and even though the culture is rather like Kentucky, the state laws are solidly blue and progressive. My girlfriend is trans and in the military with a year left on her contract. The military has been unbelievably hostile: she has been on hrt for a year now and they are still misgendering her daily due to "policy". She has audio recording of a doctor and major saying that being trans goes against nature, is experimental, and that no one knows what happens when people transition, while flatly ignoring the advice of her specialists, including her endocrinologist. The military has done everything they can to block her surgeries, and she's genuinely considering reenlisting to get them. They're using her identity against her to get her to comply with the harassment and inhumane bs they keep putting her through, while presenting a convincing but false narrative that she has no other choice than to put up with this to get some of what she wants. I'm afraid of what will happen to her mental health if she enlists again, but I also understand why she might, being so close to everything she was promised a year ago. I'm so frustrated because it doesn't need to be like this.

Make sure your partner seeks lots of mental health treatment for the emotional distress, anxiety, etc. That the hostile environment is creating for them. Prior to getting out you get a medical evaluation for the VA and the mental health portion of the evaluation can give you a very good disability rating, which in turn entitles you to maintain dirt cheap Tricare healthcare and also free treatment through the VA. You do not need to stay in to get medical care. Just make sure you have adequate medical records of receiving treatment and diagnoses. ❤

And half of the board was replaced by people who aren’t insane and the bam was overturned. We voted HARD that year. Lol. But we have a great Pride festival and every once in a while you’ll come across a house with a rainbow flag or an affirming yard sign. (Mixed in with oodles of Trump signs and flags of course, but that’s just par for the course almost anywhere). So, in general, you’d be good here or Philly or Pittsburgh. Bethlehem. Just avoid living in the middle and especially the northeast. Because that’s Pennsyltucky 😅. Overall, I’m proud to have been born in PA and the o have lived here most of my life. The natural scenery and rolling landscapes and woods… the history… the architecture. Anyway, sending you 💗 and hope everything works out. 😊

Hello, my name is Nikolai. I am an intersex trans man, I was raised female despite me being intersex. I was born & raised in Buffalo, NY. However, I was forced to move to Florida in 2017 because my mom wanted to live by Disney. I now reside in Clermont Florida and it is hell. No matter how many times I tell my mom I want to go back to New York it never happens, it’s always a false promise. Not only is it dangerous for me as a trans youth (13, late 2009), it is also dangerous due to me having a thyroid disorder. I cannot deal with the heat, no matter where I go in Florida I always overheat, I have a fan right by my bed so I can sleep safely. I bring a handheld fan with me everywhere I go, my body isn’t adapting to the heat and I feel it never will.

But I'm the only one in my immediate family who can work and so I do. I'm publicly out at my job, but I don't correct anyone anything. Thankfully, everyone uses my preferred name, Marshall. I've been wanting to flee the US since trump was elected. And recently with Roe VWade being overturned the sentiment is even higher. Unfortunately, we don't have enough money to move and so I'll be stuck in Texas for a while yet.

I'm a disabled homeless trans guy living in my car in Texas. I've definitely been struggling with getting my T, which for me as someone who is also intersex, is actually very dangerous. I currently need it to maintain any hormone production and prevent severe fatigue and joint pain. Not to mention my muscle disorder that already causes severe pain and sometimes forces me into my wheelchair. I've literally had arguments with pharmacy techs who berated me about why am I getting testosterone? Why do I need it? Sometimes they literally insist that I have to tell them what my medical issues are. Spoiler alert: No I don't. My doctor wrote a script, it is their job to fulfill it, not give me a second medical opinion as someone WITHOUT a medical degree. I then inform them that I know the law about this cos my dad is a lawyer. Not that my conservative transphobic father would ever fight FOR me, but I use his mere existence as a way for people to leave me the F alone. Luckily, I pass as a cis male very well (must be that hidden Y chromosome that makes transphobes quiver with fear when I bring it up), so I mostly only get harassed nowadays for being homeless. Ahhh, America. Anyway, I'm only still in Texas at all cos my cat is still at my parents house and I'm still the one that has to take care of him every day, even though they kicked me out for not wanting to pay them $1k rent after I got fired for being trans. Ahhh, Family. I'm saving up for a larger vehicle or RV to live in so I can take my cat and leave and then finally block my parents on my phone. There's a G0FundMe & K0Fi in my profile links if anyone read this and is interested in helping out. Currently trying to decide how to go about maybe filming my life, but really scared about mentioning my biology. It's the only thing holding me back from vlogging my experiences at the moment. I really want to flee to Canada, but I got denied the last time I applied when I had 3x the amount they recommend saved up. Now I don't have those savings anymore, and only a minor remote work job for a graphic design company. Sorry for the wall of text, but yea! That's my life in Texas right now. Fingers crossed for... well, generally everything. Apologies for any misspellings.

I moved from Texas to California for the same reason. Way too dangerous. I'll deal with the high rent, idc anymore. To elaborate further: I was in San Antonio, Texas for most of my life. I had dealt with plenty of violence and abuse in different jobs and at school. I was done. ended up getting a job in the bay area doing tech support for a robotics company, and they offered to relocate me to the bay. I had friends in Cali, so I was lucky enough to have a place to stay while I worked out moving away from my parent for the first time. The hardest part was leaving family and friends. My grandmother died and my mom broke her hip/femur just a month or two before I moved, but it was a now or never situation and I had to leave. I miss my brother, I miss my mom to death. I miss my grandpa, the only father figure I had in my life (who will never move to california cause hes a gun nut and aggressively republican lol). I miss the friends I had and the dog I couldn't bring with me. Hell, I miss having AC and large trash cans XD But I'm happier. Truly. Healthcare is so much easier with San Francisco being a train ride away. Public transportation and biking is easier here (too scared to drive cars so i dont lol), I don't have to worry about some asshole starting shit with me because im bisexual or trans. It's safer to come out to doctors when needed. Safer to be myself. Thankfully im stealth now so I only come out to people when I need to, but yeah it was terrifying living in Texas during the trump era. I was lucky I was a homebody and never went out during my T puberty phase.

I'm somewhere in Indiana, am a mom, and I am very worried about the states of things. My spouse more so. We're taking steps, keeping abreast of the situation. Until there's a national ban, etc we can't get refugee status to flee the country, but if that happens, then we'll go, somehow. But with sanctuary states maybe it'll just be a move there, but we wouldn't like to have to do that. Stay safe everyone. Trans kids in Indiana, you have options, talk with your parents, wrack your collectives brains and find them, there are good people here in the state that want to help. Just don't turn around and give that info away on the internet after. You may want to, but hold back and deliver it person to person one you find an avenue. Don't give those against us another avenue to close down. Good luck. We all need it.

Thank you for adding your comment. As a gay man I have been wanting to move to a blue state for many decades. Unfortunately, making the move from a Red State to a Blue State is economically challenging. My partner passed away before marriage became legal. But! I am happy to report that a few months ago I purchased some land in New Mexico and will be building a house there for my elderly mother and myself to live as soon as our home here on the Gulf Coast is sold. I have never felt safe in Alabama, but it has become even more dangerous for LGBT+ people over the past few years.
