Lisa can you do a video on light temperature for hot climate... (50degree celsius, desert)... usually everyone speaks about we should have warm temperature light in the bedroom... but I personally feel, people living in hot climate should have cool temp light to get that cool comfort ambience inside the bedroom... can you please do a video on this topic... perfect temperature light for cool and hot climate ?

I would recommend that if you’re renting, definitely check your lease agreement before you change electrical fixtures or paint walls. You could forfeit your deposit (or even potentially get evicted, if you have an overzealous landlord) if you break your lease! Excited for the Dezigner Method!

… You can also always ask your landlord/landlady if you can do it. You would be surprised how many people would say yes. At the end of the day you want to live in a nice looking and feeling home and the landlord might say yes to freshly repainted walls. I asked and I heard a YES myself …

Deb here. We always told our renters they could change as long as it was put it back the way it was. Remember to save the old fixture. We had one tenant replace an expensive powder room faucet with a cheaper one. Property manager never noticed the change. We did notice years later when we visited the property.

Hi Lisa! Is there any way to make a room look nice without area rugs? My daughter uses a wheelchair (and lots of other medical devices) so rugs are not an option in our house. However, we still would enjoy a well styled home and try hard not to have our homes look like a hospital or care facility. There are a lot of us families out here who want nice looking, uncluttered homes but we are stuck in the reality of necessity. We would LOVE to see a video that focuses on stylish accessibility. You have the best style ever! Thank you so much for all your wonderful style advice!

I bought a beautiful white shag for bedroom. Saved money bc didn’t need to seam bc shag was sooo big, and cut out area under bed and used in another part of house. Getting seamed in a year, if I want.

Invest in a quality mattress and replace if 10 years old or older! and quality bedding: pillows, blankets, and sheet sets...you spend 1/3 of every day in it...that is one splurge where it is essential! Buy the best you can afford...as everyone's budgets are different... save up, put on Christmas list, or watch for sales. Natural fibres are 'key' to breathability and comfort... also, a good mattress pad!... THEN you can schusch up with pillows and throws when the budget allows.

Remember that plants do need to be near a light source. But that can be worked in easily by substituting a grow light bulb for a regular light bulb. Depending on what you get, you can’t tell the difference with the human eye, but the plant gets what it needs!

Would love to splurge on luxury bedding but my 60 lb, black haired dog sleeps with me, crammed in between me and my husband. lol We sleep like we're a litter of puppies or something. The trade off is worth it. I sleep better under the comfort and protection of my pup than I would under cozy sheets. :)

Hi Lisa! Due to the cost & time of replacing one room’s floor (a clear rectangle, step down, open living & dining room) of wall-to-wall solid-color carpet with a hardwood floor matching the rest of the house, is it resale-ok to install a different hardwood plank of complimentary color? If no, what would be a recommended wall-wall carpet that requires less fuss/worry of traffic & spills? Thank you. 🙏🏼 I did see your pro tip on extra-large rugs from remnants, & Home Depot now has such a service. 👍🏼 We’d still need to add new & matching hardwood, & resurface the rest of the house. $$$$$

@LisaHoltDesign what do you do when you have a radiator below the window? Our rental came with good quality lined curtains but they only come down to the window sill so that they don’t cover/block the radiator. I personally hate that because the windows look cheap, like the windows are wearing a mini skirt. how to go about this?

I'm just another subscriber but as a design conscious person I'd like to take a crack at this. The radiant and baseboard heating issue is REAL and can be a frustrating work-around because we never want to compromise safety. I have a couple suggestions. The first one is to draw attention away from the radiator without blocking it by extending the drapery rod wider to flank the window, a few inches away from the radiator on either side without allowing the drapes to come in contact with it. They will hang for aesthetic purposes and the light filtering functionality will come from some cellular shades on the windows itself. Option 2 is strictly going with good quality shades or roman blinds alone. Option 3 is to flank the drapes like in option 1, and only close them during the off season when the radiator is not in use. Last option is to stitch a velcro strip, button or snap closures to the back of the curtains so they an be folded up and held in place above heater level when the heater is in use and lower them back to the floor when it isn't. Over-all, I'd go with option 1. Blinds are your friend here for light filtering, and flanking drapes at a safe distance will give you the most desirable look in my opinion. I notice that many designers don't bother even buying a house that has something under the window that will keep them from hanging drapes perfectly. Not everyone has this as a realistic option. I feel your pain. Good luck!

108” curtains are VERY common. Then just hem them or use fabric tape to shorten them. (Amazon, Wayfair, etc).
