Amy: That is never going to be a usable pool without $10,000++ of resealing, tiling, filters and pumps. Suggestion: Put a vinyl pond liner in it with a spray fountain in center to circulate the water and make a gorgeous lily pond with fish, turtles etc.
Good Afternoon, Might I suggest putting screens over the end of pipes where you're having blockages in pipes..I don't know if they make something like that but maybe that would help keep debris from getting in ..maybe y'all can make something if there's nothing sold at plumbing stores?
Yes, my thought too. The pipes need some sort of filters and/or traps to remove material and leaves to prevent blockages. With the amount of spring water you have, you need a management system to deal efficiently with it.
Water is the enemy on your property. It was running water that caused your rock fall. The ponds are an attempt to regulate (pace) all the water seeping through the cliff face in order to avoid Niagara Falls during a rain event. I'd hate to see your driveway wash away again. I'd get some engineering advise on managing all these pools and waterfalls. Putting this old drainage system back in working order is a very good idea. Turning one of these ponds into a swimming pool defeats it's purpose.
There must be a way to open and close flow for when rain is expected or when no one is at home for a few days at a time. Farmers have done it for thousands of years.
The room paint colour is very calming and the rose is gorgeous I look forward to the reveal. The pool will be a lovely little relaxing pool in Summer. Yay! The daffodils and irises are blooming. 🌸
Pool looks awesome! If you get fish, be sure to get well mannered fish like butterfly koi, koi, or shebunkins (small koi). Don’t get Red comets or any type of aggressive fish. Then they will all get along. I hope you have frogs too! Their singing at night is so delight. Fun to see your pond come to life!
Mosquito control in the pool will be important. A solar water spray or bubbler and/ or goldfish would help. Naturally frogs will eat them too. The color of the water might be caused by bacteria or something in the runoff from up above.
Sorry about your water problem! Feel for you as I have had to move from two houses because of water! I thought I was cursed with water, until I moved to an apartment 10 years ago, that solved the problem 😂
The ponds look amazing!! Can imagine sitting beside them with a coffee and a book just listening to the sounds of nature. Love it! ❤❤❤ That blockage however, id be tempted to dig it all out and start again but then is it even possible to do that? I know you will get to the bottom of it but still sending you huge hugs for the frustration ❤❤❤❤❤
Your room looks pretty with the colors already. They’re very subtle. It will look beautiful with the wallpaper. Your own little oasis. It’ll be a challenge to keep the pools of water without leaves, but it would be worth. The color of those pools is beautiful. If you can keep water in those pools you could get fish so that they can eat the mosquitoes. Thank you Abby for all your hard work.❤
Looking forward to seeing the bedroom! The pool will be great and the water color! Chole follows Thomas around likes him. Looking awesome. Hope you get the water fixed.
You are a trooper Amy, in more ways than one! Your lovely Chateau must be smiling (if that's possible) with all you're doing to make it even more beautiful! Love your "wading pool"!
I adore your bedroom. The proportions are so harmonious, the windows are beautiful, and the view is amazing. My taste would be letting visible the structure of the windows and the green as much as possible. Very light and transparent curtains - blowing in the wind in summer. I am curious how you decide. 🥰
You'll never be bored. For the rest of your life there will always be another little place on the property to wonder about and figure out how to fix it.
The chandelier medallion would be pretty painted the same color as the trim, that would make it stand out all the more imo. The old chicken coop may not be sanitary inside so that is something to consider before using it for storage.
@ryson9637But WAY too big, so probably some other plant. Someone else suggested Kudzu, but no---they have 3 leaves grouped together around the stem as it grows. I've googled pics of ginger and it really looks like that plant, which is lovely!.
Well, I guess the good news is that you will probably never have to deal with a drought! I look forward to seeing how the pool project progresses (sorry about the alliteration!), that will be exciting! Your bedroom is coming along very nicely, and I’m pleased for you that it’s nearing completion.
I believe that plant with the heart-shaped leaves on the hillside is Houttuynia cordata which is a groundcover that easily spreads. It has a tiny white bloom in the spring. It loves slopes and places where other plants won’t grow. I have it in a pot and it overwinters here (Oklahoma, USA, zone 7b). It’s hard to get rid of so I hope you like it and won’t worry about trying to get rid of it.
The bedroom is going to beautiful!! Excited to see the reveal! The pool and waterfalls are going to be so nice! There are so many discoveries just waiting to be found!! The piece of pottery is so interesting!! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Au Revoir 💜
If I had access to all that rock from the cliff fall I would be making stone walls with it to make garden rooms or add to your pool area. 🙂 I’ve been listening to your Spotify channel frequently. Love it!
I really enjoying 😂your video!!👏👏🥰 you have a sense of your inner child that is contagious!! How fantastic to have this pools…..you have to have a sense of fun with dealing with rocks falling and water 💦 problems.!!! God bless you!🙏 you are living your best life!! And thank you for making my week! Love you, 80 yr.old in Mount Vernon,Wash.👍🤗❤️🙏
Suggestion: the best way to clean your balcony, your steps, a roof, the exteriors of certain outside walls, certain part of your parking, patio, is to use a water pressure gun. Results are amazing. First they spray a sort of treatement and after few minutes they rinse. Its amazing! The look is brand new.
I am sure!@@calgram This the best way the clean her pool. I have painted the inside big bowl of a fountain (after a repair because, she was loosing her water) with regular oil paint. Brrr.... You should see it at the end of the summer... 🙄 Everything as to be redone. Over time, the paint turned into sort of cakes at the bottom!!! If she doesn't just use paint for boats, that's what's going to happen. It's a mess. I hope she is going to see my comment before they start the work.
I guess you may have already had a plumber look down that drain with a scope to see why that keeps happening. Hope you figure it all out. Wishing you luck. Can’t wait to see your room!
❤ Bedroom is going to look just so stunning . I be up for a dip in that swimming pool even try the others on the other side the lime stone gives that beautiful blue 🐳 colour . I move the Chook house long and make that flat area with some pavers and put French outdoor table and chairs there for another time out area . Plant Agapanthus they great because they spread dont have leaves and have long flowering flowers it look beautiful in the mid summer . But that's just a idea . Your garden is waking up 🌼🌷. ❤👑🐇🐾 Chloe
I think those plants that are taking over look great. I have an APP that will tell me what plants are. Perhaps that would be helpful. Perhaps that water could fill the pool. I have no idea really. 🤗🇨🇦
It's amazing how a few flowers can change one's outlook. On the other side of the pond, we have daffodils growing, but not blooming yet. Maybe next month. I just planted forsythia bushes today.
This is the time for the iris to bloom and the wall retains the heat of the sun and helps the blooms to come!! Enjoy!! Robbie, San Francisco Bay Area, California
Thanks for keeping it real Abby. A lot of RU-vidr film themselves painting and yet not a lick of paint on their clothes. My clothes usually look a lot like yours when I’m painting😊.
Limestone is composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and is white in color. As the river breaks down this rock into tiny crystals, these crystals will get mixed up into the water. When sunlight hits the tiny crystals, it will reflect that beautiful blue color. 💦💦💦💦🏊♂💧🌊💧🌊 this is your answer to why your ponds look so blue .Limestone rock .
The pond is going to be so lovely and restful. Just to sit by the water when you are stressed out will,be so peaceful with a large glass of wine, of course 💕 My God! That water is Aqua!!! Breathtaking , happy surprise 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The pond will be lovely, Abby. The bedroom is coming along well. I hope you get that drain sorted. Yes, you are lucky to have a cleaning lady who does leaf blowing. ❤
Oh Abby thank goodness you have Tomas you need to get yourself some knee high rubber boots wellies from the uk expensive but very useful I got ankle boots so regret not getting the knee high ! The pool will be lovely what about putting a fountain in the middle if not use to swim or float in will help to keep water moving and not go stagnet keep it fresh would be so pretty ! Thanks for sharing another great video enjoy every week ! Please stay safe the bedroom is going to be your quiet retreat watch the ladder fell of the bottom step of my two step ladder yes two step reached too far sprained my thumb still sore taking down ceiling in basment broke my book case oh well and my ego ! Getting my painter to help me put bead board on the ceiling and trim out with 1 by 2s to trim all the seams to clean up have 7 foot ceiling so lots of room for this 5 ft 2 old women ! Cannot break anything as too short ! But will be a nice cozy room have a good size window in room also and will use all year cozy in winter cool in summer it's not as big as your room but it's 20 by 12 foot good size for 1960 s ! That's the fourth room down stairs have done ! Will be pleased to be done before summer ! Have an outstanding week Abby ! 😀😍
The big leafy plant looks like Kudzu...You can eat the root as you would other root vegetables, like potatoes or rutabagas. Kudzu roots can be dried and ground into a powder, which some people use as breading for fried foods or as a thickener for soups and sauces. What's more, the kudzu plant leaves, vine tips, and purple flower blossoms are also edible.. grows like crazy..
Put in a new drain pipe that is bigger in diameter with screens to let the water outflow properly protected, hopefully it will solve the drain and flood issues. Good luck ❤
The bedroom walls and crown molding look amazing....super soft colors! Anxiously awaiting new week's video! The ceiling crown....stunning! The pools! Who knew they would be SO beautiful and the waterfalls, REALLY!!!! These areas will become your place of peace and relaxation!!! The shallow pool can be just a plunge pool for cooling off on those hot summer evening! As for the river running down the driveway........looks like time for another cleanout of that drain pipe! UGH! You need that water for the soon to be waterfalls! Lovely to see spring flowers in Feb! Cheers!
Keep the chicken coop! What fun that would be to have your own eggs for the Chateau! Loving the progress of all the projects. Great to see the plants coming up - I just love springtime. Can’t wait to see the reveal on the bedroom. I’m surprised you’re not nailing the moldings and ceiling rosette before caulking. The pools and waterfalls will be a real treat.
You need a sizeable chicken run to go with the coop if you want healthy chickens laying healthy eggs. (See 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes where they created a chicken run and coop).
Hi Abby, there's a little painters trick i learned from my son. If you get one color and apply a flat finish with a satin finish it looks so cool especially on ceilings.
Abby, the plant you wondered about is wild ginger. It's a cool woodland plant which flowers at the base. The plant with big leaves growing by your rose is Acanthus. Beautiful! Maybe the very best way to keep water in the pool is to use a liner. Unfortunately, a 40'' square liner is about $1000. If you decide to line it with concrete (or some like waterproof substance) I think that eventually, the roots of that tree will interfere. Maybe get a longer snake? If you attach it to a drill you won't have to turn it by hand. Good luck.
Those water pools and catchments look wonderfull. Good luck with the drainage. Maybe an electric eel type tool to chew up roots. I was thinking it might be lime causing the colour of the water but hubby geologist says lime dissolves. He ways asking if there’s clay there too. The silt from that might cause a milky colour.
Did developers divert the water flow when they constructed the subdivision above your chateau that may have caused the rock slide behind you? It appears there was once an ample natural water supply to your pond area that's disappeared... ❤️🙏
I think they absolutely did and they are getting away with it. Makes me very angry for her . If I were there I'd let the cliff fall til the people living up there lost their houses and I wouldn't feel bad about it at all . What can anyone do after nature has been disturbed ? I just pray the chateau is protected and thrives beyond all expectations.
Hi Abbie. The bedroom is looking great. Love the soft colors. I don’t know if they have them in France but there is a water feature here in USA that can be put in the pool and it spouts water upwards. Very pretty and it would keep water moving so it won’t go stale. I think Tomas is going to have to dig out that other drain, maybe make it into another little path to the aqua water? Never dull😅❤❤❤
It appears that the flow of water at the base of the cliff by the driveway will continue to need maintenance as it requires the water to turn at a right angle. To create a more natural flow with potentially less maintenance, a runoff pipe should be placed under the driveway in a straighter line to the waterfall. Also, there are resources on natural pools that you may want to check out including how to naturally filter the water.
The paint colors chosen for the primary bedroom are fantastic! The addition of crown molding really elevates the room. Unsolicited suggestions: 1. Go BIG on the chandelier in terms of scale. 2. Have you considered inoculating the remaining logs in the pool with mushroom plugs at winter time? Pretty straightforward task once the logs are removed from the pool. Curious Chloe! I love her cameos in your videos. 28:22
Those leaves you were wondering about that are covering the ground appear to be violets to me. We have them behind our house in an area that doesn't get much sun. Great ground cover. Also, check them our for herbal use, if you're into that. Hugs! Peggy
The reason that your iris are blooming is the protect it receives and the heat coming of the walls. I think may be I would remove the concrete and dig the dirt out to lower the height. I would power wash the sides and any stone. By power washing you can make it a lot easier to match up the stone color. I would reactivate the water falls with electric and make a beautiful woodland garden.
The blue color of water is possibly sulphur. We had a natural sulphur pool once and it was azure blue in the sun. If it is, there are health benefits of bathing in it. Health retreat perhaps?
It would be Awesome to build up a waterfall feature at the pond w/some of your fallen rocks. Can’t wait to see the finished Boudoir…U hav waited long enough for the Master’s Retreat. I assume minerals from the rocks made the glorious color of that pretty water.
Abby, does France have a rotorooter type service? If they do they might have a camera to see down the pipes. Good luck. Lovely pond! We just had a river otter run through our yard last night. We are in the suburbs north of Seattle. That was a first!
I’ve world on many old water features in southern France. The main culprit 90% of the time is cracked pipes with tree roots growing into them. The best way of resolving the issue is to dig a new trench and lay a new pipe. All of the old pies were clay/ concrete later on they were asbestos and were pretty fragile. A bit of ground movement and pop.
Sunday night good timing for 🥂🥂 That’s an old fish pond , you can paint with resin to seal. A suspect all that water would have been channeled into the pond !
Before painting the pool they have to clean very well the base and let it dry. Very important. They need to buy a very specific paint to do it, the one for a boat. Otherwise it is going to crack easely, falling out and its going to be a desaster in the water. 😮
