I like how despite being one of the most cruel Decepticons, Shockwave has the most heroic sounding theme. Of course, this is G1 Shockwave (or at least highly based on G1) so it does make sense, I mean he was Cybertron’s guardian and the second most loyal Decepticon outside Soundwave.
@@hyperion3145 Treacherous? Well, that's debatable. He did follow Megatron when Magatron was shown to be a competent leader, or at least demonstrated that he wasn't an idiot. He only did his first takeover because Megatron almost lost the entire war thanks to acting like a moron, when he trusted a human (a hostile one at that) with creating their fuel. Remember, that it was Shockwave who rescued the rest of the decepticons, including Megatron. Heck, later he willingly turned over leadership when Megatron figured out that they were both duped by Optimus during the attack on the mine that was their base at the time, despite Shockwave easily having the support of the other decepticons to kill Megatron in that moment. He only tried to kill him later when Megs went full bonkers. Shockwave was very much loyal, but not to Megatron, but the decepticon cause and his own values of reason. And he simply (in my opinion, correcly ) concluded that he would be a better leader, at that point he was still shown to be willing to keep Megatron alive, and to even step down the moment that he was proven wrong.
Not gonna lie when I first played shockwave was the hardest boss You expect them to be unpredictable and having one predictable boss placed in there three me off
Could give me some exemples of groups that do similar music? I'm not really into this stuff usually but I loved the ost of the game and your post made me curious :)
I always loved how the soundtrack here seems to be evoking Shockwave's differing characterizations to give him a bit more depth. The first version is his usual incarnation from cartoons, where he's a dutiful, understated soldier. But when the second half kicks in, he's carrying the logic-motivated, hatred-driven mindset of his comic book incarnations.
I love the contrast of the Waves' themes- Soundwave gives off that 'Don't mess with me, I'll fuck you up" kinda vibe, and Shockwave's gives off the vibe that he's the last obstacle in front of Megatron as the Autobots push forward. I absolutely love it!
@@thephoenix8308 Nova Prime originally only cyberformed unpopulated, but a "darkness" (Probably Unicron) corrupted him and made him cyberform populated worlds.
@@JohnnyLouisXIX agreed. The only one possibly better to fight shockwave would be perceptor, but i prefer Wheeljack in that right because Wheeljack is a good mix of scientist and fighter
@@TFSMF2 ah, thanks, but now that i think about it, the autobots had a lot of scientists in g1: Wheeljack, Perceptor, Jetfire, and a few more, the Decepticons had Shockwave and kinda starscream to some extent. Of course, perceptor and Wheeljack are the only two that can be properly called a nemisis to Shockwave
@@roselynalejandrino4724 Not quite. What you suggested is a loose interpretation. What it actually means is that one should act with their thoughts clear, focused, and not driven by or interrupted by anything superficial like an emotion not kept in check or some fleeting want, instead of acting impulsively or without thinking it through, based on a fleeting want or an unchecked emotion.
Wouldn't it be cool if they made a game about Shockwave protecting Cybertron from an alien invasion? I mean Shockwave is responsible of keeping Cybertron safe until Megatron returns. It could be called; Transformers: Guardian of Cybertron or something.
They could be bosses. Well, now. The man can create clones of himself on Cybertron only-that's part of the series bible and where they got his cloning from here. So we've got a lives system in place without having to stretch. Possibly even infinite lives, since he can stay safely in command and control and make more. The thing is, he's got all of Cybertron as his base. That's a lot of power. It lends to the thought of an RTS/Strategy game more than an action game. Not that action is impossible, either. Except it's not really clear what sort of state's Cybertron's in, really.
Probably after Megatron and the Decepticons to chase down the Ark. From there, Autobot resistance cells pop up out of nowhere and Shockwave has to maintain control in an RTS-style fashion.
Honestly, I see Shockwave is a heroic character, especially when you consider his goals. Honestly, if I was new to the franchise, and you told me about Shockey, and said he was an Autobot, I'd believe you
But he will do all this cruel and evil stuff all for Cybertron’s survival and in the name of Logic. Even Megatron is scared of how unpredictable he is.
This is SO Megaman X, and I love every second of it. If you take IDW's background for Shockwave into account, the tragedy of him lends extra pathos to it.
The theme sounding heroic makes so much sense when you look at it from the Decepticon perspective, Shockwave believes he and Megatron are saving Cybertron, and he'd rather die than let the Autobots take away their only means of restoring their homeworld. Shockwave isn't just a fiercely loyal Decepticon, he's a true patriot of Cybertron, and this theme captures that part of Shockwave's personality perfectly
Reading all these comments made me realize I never noticed that it sounds so heroic because Shockwave believes he's doing the right thing, for Cybertron at least.
8 years and it still is amazing. I do love how it seems logical and a bit heroic( Shockwave only is aligned with the Decepticons because he thinks it is the logical option and so he can continue doing experiments) and then near the end, Shockwave loses all sense of logic and throws everything at you.
2:27 The HARDEST Guitar part of the song OMG I love this song and Shockwave so much. He will always be my favorite transformer. I'm sad that DOTM under-used him but god this game did such good justice with the fight and this song. This song is legendary.
Ok so I was thinking, imagine if the G1 backstory of the decepticons following the autobots into space was actually like shockwave's plan, because there's no way he just waited for 4 million years to hear from megatron. I thought that maybe he somehow ensured that Megatron was on the ship, and he sabotaged it to crash or something. It makes sense, that he would have taken out all the threats to his rule. Megatron, a powerful and cunning leader. Soundwave probably could have figured out his plan, and hyper-loyal to megatron. Starscream is unpredictable and annoying, and his seekers are dangerous in the air. The constructicons, very powerful asset as devestator, and loyal to megatron. The triple changers are also unpredictable and dangerous. It makes perfect sense now that I think about it ngl.
