TRANSMISSION IS JUNK!? G35 TCM Repair

We were having transmission issues and we watched a bunch of RU-vid videos. A common issue with the g35 transmission was with the solenoid connectors in the TCM breaking. After opening it up we noticed a broken connector. Soldering iron and some tedious tasks, and we had it fixed and put back together. #youtube #g35 #transmission

I did this repair you have to use thin soldering wire so you can wrap around the connection and then it melts around the break…if you just solder just the top that won’t work because it will snap again. I fixed mine once and it’s been fine…

@Corey Moto. This I believe. Did this last year. Now the Xterra is running like it's breaking. This time I'll be going the same fix and making sure it wrap wire around the connection..... Then, I am applying 2 part epoxy like JB weld around the repair or ATF the whole TCM.

How did your repair Hold up?im pulling my valve body this weekend getting just one code p1764 for the clutch control solenoid.

😂 crazy you just asked about it. STIFF coilovers and terrible roads… broke the connection again or a different one this time. Held up for a while. But the coilovers are the issue probably.

try applying ATF or JB weld around the connections next time. gonna be doing this again but adding what I've mentioned after the soldering. mine held up 9 months .

Question, How did you distinguish the difference? I'm looking into buying a g35 with codes p1730, p1757 and p1774. Many forums say that some of these codes are due to transmission failure and I have to buy a new transmission others are saying its just a bad connection inside the tcm. I'm really trying to figure out if it's worth buying it and fixing it and hoping its not transmission failure. The car has 128k original miles and the codes read out "solenoid valve circuit malfuction"

We just sent it. Used a flat head and found the broken connection. Tried so many different sensors, ecu resets….

I've read that 9 out of 10 times, it's the break silonoid but that from a Xterra site.

How many quarts of trans fluid is needed to be added after ?
@LFDFtv925
@LFDFtv925 5 месяцев назад
It varies, if you just drop the pan, or pull the valve body, and/or drain the torque converter

I HAVE THE SAME WIRE CONNECTOR BROKEN. MY CONCERN IS WHAT TYPE OF SOLDERING WIRE MATERIAL SHOULD I USE TO SOLDER IT? I MEAN IT IS AN ELECTRICAL PIECE. SHOULD I USE LIKE ALUMINUM, STEEL TYPE OF SOLDERING WIRE? I HAVE THE TOOLS TO SOLDER IT BUT IM A AFRAID I COULD USE AN NON-ELECTRICAL WIRE SOLDERING MATERIAL. WHICH WIRE SOLDER DO YOU GUYS USED IN THIS VIDEO???THANKS IN ADVANCE:)

I have no idea what kind it was to be honest. Had to be some sort of electrical one, because that's the only reason id have it in my tool box. I do recommend using a smaller diameter solder wire. I used a thicker one, and it was a little more difficult. It took longer to warm up, and melt. Hopefully this helps you in some way! LFDFtv

Try Rosin-Core, it's a mixture of Tin and Copper I believe, make sure it's lead free. You can find it at Home Depot or most stores of that kind, just make sure to get a fine diameter one, you can always add more, but when working with a $2k+ transmission, it's better to start at the lowest. Good luck!

Another thing to note, make sure to flux it up, and afterwards clean it with rubbing alcohol to remove any extra flux that could circulate in your transmission.

@@matthewpalm7484 It seems to be doing alright for now. BUT I’m sure I’ll have to rip it apart and fix it again. I’ll do these steps exactly. THANK YOU!

@@LFDFtv925 It's no problem, I had a background in computers for a while, another thing to be careful of is to feed the solder in while applying heat with the iron. The solder when liquid travels to where the heat is being applied, so the more solder you can get, the stronger the joint. Good luck, and a suggestion while you're in there, get a Transgo shift kit, so when you drop the valve body you can get that upgrade done as well. Cheers!
