Having fun and saving money! Back when I was a starting off apprentice as an aircraft mechanic we had a slow day and I got tasked with changing our filter and oil on our aircraft tug transmission since it didn’t seem to shift well and I was a farm kid. Tug shifted like it pretty much like it didn’t have second gear. Popped the pan off and it started raining internal transmission parts on me. Went to my boss with the parts in my hand and told him I found second gear 🤣. Cool idea with the string for the gasket. In the past I bought a can of Permidex “aviation form a gasket” to have on hand. Paint it in one side and stick the gasket to it. Keep at it!!

Hahaha oh my gosh that’s funny! 😂 I can imagine his face when you handed him second gear, lol!

Great job. A couple FYIs. Next time that you service the transmission there is a cover on the front of the transmission remove it and rotate the torque converter until you find a drain plug so that you can drain most all of the ATF. Most of the ATF is in the toque converter and not the pan. Also if you purchase a quality A/T pan gasket it will have some smaller holes so that you can start the pan bolts into the gasket to hold it in place. You are doing a great job.

Nice work. I figured I would add a couple pointers. As someone already mentioned you left the extension tube out of the filter. Make sure you don’t throw it away. The trans could cavitate in off camber situations. Also you can use shellac (permeatex) or a gasket glue like gascacinch from Edelbrock to hold the gasket in place. Make sure the pan rail is flat where the bolts clamp. People have a tendency to over-tighten and distort the gasket surface of the pan. If it isn’t flat find a flat hard surface and use a hammer to massage it flat.

Awesome- thanks for the tips! I’m a wee bit salty I have to redo it, but maybe I guess I’ll really know this job well after this. Will I need to take the filter out to put the old tube in?
@jasonwalker999
@jasonwalker999 3 года назад
@@broncobabeadventures4316 the extension tube should slide into the rubber grommet in the round hole on the filter (so no need to take the filter off). The new filter should come with the grommet, I can see the grommet in the video. The grommet ensures it won’t cavitate with the tube in place. Make sure the openings are to the bottom (it can only go in one way). This tube goes to the bottom of the pan and rests against it. The openings ensure it can pull fluid. There is also a lip towards the top of the extension so it doesn’t go any further up into the filter. Some folks say you don’t need the tube, but you would need to buy a 2WD filter as it extends a little further than the 4WD filter. I say keep the parts together that Ford intended to have in it. I’m pulling a transmission out now that has a 4WD filter with no tube and a 2WD pan. My transmission had a ton of clutch material in the pan and it’s not functioning properly. So I’m rebuilding because of the transmission sucking dry. It sucked dry because the pan leaked (previous owner) and was low on fluid. The filter wouldn’t even pull the fluid.

Thank you! It feels really good to make progress in my abilities. And I’m sad to say I’ve got the 68 on the market right now. I won’t be able to afford the adventure part of Bronco babe adventures if I try and restore both. I’m going to use that money to travel with my 78 ☺️. I also really want to restore my dads 74 fiat spider- he proposed to my mom in that car and it’s been sitting for my whole life

@@broncobabeadventures4316 wow I completely agree don’t get to many irons in the fire at one time definitely get out and enjoy the adventure with the big bronco for a while before you start on the car. That will be a great story piece when you start that project that will be epic for you and your family can’t wait. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.👍❤️😊
