I want to say thank for all your videos, I was able to fix 3dr gear grind on my 350z, all the job done by myself, also I end up replace 4th,5th,6th synchronizers too, all parts bought from amayama, thank you so much!!
I didn’t agree in the earlier vid with not replacing all synchros, bearings, seals etc. any time a transmission comes apart for a major repair having mileage on it, so not surprised at all.
In the earlier videos that decision was based in part to the synchros being in decent shape and the limitations of my equipment at the time. This was a completely different gearbox in this video with a seperate issue all together.
Bro the Amayama link just got you a sub. Thanks for the info. I've got 3 CD trans in my garage for various projects but I've yet to go through all of them. I recall you saying in a pervious video the JK trans 3rd gear is a one piece instead of two piece brazed. Is this correct??
You know what I don't remember now, i think they looked exactly the same desires a free more teeth but I didn't check to see if it was brazed together. I was more referring to mine being broken in two pieces
Awesome videos / info 💪 do you think its posible to swap 009 synchros in non 009 transmission? Atleast 2nd and 3rd ….im in the process to buy a damaged transmision for a project don’t know if there is much difference in performance on both transmision any advice is appreciated 🤙
We haven't had a non 009 transmission to take apart but there's a good chance it would work. But unless you plan on making over 300ftlbs of torque the older transmissions will work just fine.
I recently tried to rebuild my cd after having bad synchros in 2nd/3rd. Everything seemed to go smooth until it was back in the car and I couldnt shift into reverse or 2nd. Any ideas before I tear it apart again?
Hard say but usually when that happens it's because the individual pieces of the synchros get wedged together from reassembly essentially locking it in gear. But if you checked it before putting it back in the car and everything shifted and spun correctly then it might be a clutch issue.
@Garage 23 I ended up just buying a cd009 and throwing that in since the one I was rebuilding was a cd001. Everything seemed fine and was fairly straight forward to reassemble besides the big line of detents and ball bearing across the top of the trans which was a little confusing. I'll have to tear it down and see what I can figure out. Thanks for all the videos!
I mentioned this in another comment somewhere but I don't know if it's possible, I haven't had an early trans to look at but I think there's a good chance it could work. It might be expensive though as you would probably have to replace some of the gears as well, as they are designed to work with specific synchros.
