Just goes to show everything really does come back again. When I was a young child (early 60s) we had a neighbour who made Jello pie. It was transparent to show the raspberries floating in the very firm Jello. I don't know how she made it but, looking back, I suspect she used 2 boxes of Jello but only as much water as for one so that the filling was really firm. I don't really remember how it tasted but looking at the berries floating in the pie was fascinating to my (probably) 6 year old eyes.

Probably one box of Jello with an added packet of gelatin. Two boxes of Jello with half the water would be very dark and overpowering.

I think I would prefer this. It's likely not clear because the lemon would make it cloudy but I much prefer real lemon to the extract. And I prefer using gelatin to Jello with all of it's additives. So my tummy would prefer yours but my eyes prefer Emmy's. 🤷

I was thinking the same thing. Agar sets a bit differently (it sets at room temperature, I think, and means it's not always a suitable substitute for gelatine) but I don't think that would be an issue here.

For some reason this reminds me of the first cruise I went on. They always had dozens of these beautiful pies, but they were all gelatin based, and all pretty much tasted the same. Pretty colors and beautifully decorated, but lacking substance. I’d much rather have a real lemon meringue or key lime or coconut cream pie!

My favorite part of all of Emmy's food vids is her immediate facial-expression whenever she tastes something for the first time. You can't make that kind of reaction artificial and she always does such a wonderful job of describing the flavor and texture of things. Hey Emmy! I just want to share my grandmother’s Condensed milk cake recipe. It is an easy one so the ingredients are also cheap. ( approximately less than 3 dollars ) Hope you notice this recipe 🥰😘 * 1 cup all-purpose flour * 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour * ½ teaspoon baking powder * 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk * 4 eggs * 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted * 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar for dusting * Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan.   * Step 2 Mix 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons flour and baking powder together in a large bowl.  * Step 3 Combine sweetened condensed milk, eggs, and melted butter in a bowl and add to the flour mixture. Beat using an electric mixer until batter is smooth and creamy. Pour batter into the prepared springform pan.  * Step 4 Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Run a table knife around the edges to loosen. Invert cake carefully onto a serving plate or cooling rack. Let cool completely. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.

Take a can of sweetened condensed milk, remove the label wash the can. Place unopened can into a pot of simmering water, let simmer for 25 minutes. Carefully remove can, do not let boil, it will explode. Water needs cover two- thirds of the can.

The original recipe is remove label then place can on its side with water 1 inch above can then boil yes I said boil for 3 hours. must keep the can covered with water or it will explode. I've make this lots of times never had a problem with it exploding just made sure water always covers can. Makes the best caramel you ever tasted.

@@daydreamera8558 at a simmer, it is you can't rush it. Boiling the can will cause it to explode. If, you are unsure of the difference between a simmer and a boil, don't do it.
