Usually I start my plants from seeds, but this year I bought the seedlings. So, can you transplant from soil to a hydroponic system? The answer is a resounding yes!
Here are some of the items I used in this video:
Vevor 8 bucket hydroponic system: amzn.to/3OTWirT
GrowAce Air Cube Ebb and Flow system: bit.ly/3i0ZnIe

Rockwool: amzn.to/3Nqvuyt
Hydroponic Clay Pebbles: amzn.to/3oN3iw7
Masterblend: amzn.to/43Ins9g
Grow Big Hydroponic Nutrient Solution: amzn.to/42opVVf
Mars Hydro LED light: amzn.to/3OZ7DqI

You can also take a cutting and root it for the hydro. It takes about the same amount of time for soil roots to adapt to hydro. As long as you have a side shoot you can grow out the soil plant too.

Thanks Atomizer, and then I can double the number of plants that way too, great idea!

@@TikkiOOO I start my toms very early indoors so i can pick the best of the bunch to take the side shoots from. When the plants get to a few feet tall i lay them down flat which encourages more side shoot growth. Toms generally take 60 days to reach maturity, i gain that time indoors to make the most of the outdoor season.

How do you recommend rooting the cuttings?

I do something similar with mine, but just use a hose to get the dirt out of the roots. Split a piece of rock wool on one side, and place around the stem of the tomato plant. Place that in a net pot, making sure the water level is just over the bottom of the net pot, then back fill with clay pebbles. No need to tease the roots through the net pot, so long as your water level is just over the bottom of the net pot I should add that my system is a kratky system outside.

Thanks Scott....I love teasing the roots....just kidding...but you have a good point. Thanks for the feedback!

Wow! The plants in the outdoor buckets really took off! Looks like the hardest part is getting all the soil off the seedlings lol

Thanks Genevieve...you are right! The best part about hydroponics is not having to worry about watering the plants when we go on vacation!

I noticed you said seedlings but can you do this for well established plants too (some small unripe tomatoes)? I'm also dealing with fungus gnats so want to get rid of the soil

can i do this transplantation with cannabis plants?

No need to get rid of the soil. Just put the seedling in a net cup and fill it with pebbles or pumice. It works and I’ve been doing this for two years now. Plants are happy and healthy without any stress.
@TikkiOOO
@TikkiOOO Год назад
Thanks dvdgalutube for the feedback! Do you do that for indoor hydroponics as well? I worry about bringing soil from outside into my house, and I'm dealing with fungus gnats that I believe came from the soil. But for the outdoor hydroponics, I think you are right, unless you are worried about pathogens, this needs a side by side comaparison experiment, don't you think? Thanks for that!

@TikkiOOO I also dont allow any soil into my house or my hydroponics after transplant and literally solved all my problems with so many diesases. I 3D printed my cone shaped pots so small and dont need pebbles or plant cubes anymore, and my super white thick roots loves that fresh oxygen in high huminty. My next experiment is airstones vs oxygen tablets in the resovoir.

Thanks so much Tiki. How did you deal with the 90 degree heat in your indoors hydroponics? I have a much smaller hydroponics indoors and its very humid as I am not able to keep my apartment cold, so I have to constantly keep changing out the water by putting ice or ice packs in the surrounding water. Its very time consuming and annoying so I refrain from growing in the summer,. Here's hoping you have a solution. Thanks
@TikkiOOO
@TikkiOOO Год назад
Hello Use Wisdom! Its one of the reasons I have my some of my hydroponics growing outside where the temps are cooler. My solution is to grow indoors in the cooler months and outdoors in the warmer weather. If you have a balcony, maybe you can grow out there in the summer, assuming it is cooler outside than in your apartment? Another solution is to look for plants that are heat tolerant, they are bred to withstand hotter temperatures and grow those. I wish I had a better answer for you!

Awesome video, but I am surprised at the price of the plants. Where I am at, one of the plants is around $5.00.....$0.78 is steal. At that price, I would not have to start my own from seeds.

I feel very sorry for you. Plants of that size are about that price, maybe $1 for bigger ones where I am. This is Midwest United States.

@@JDaBz8 Not only will it take care of fungus gnats but it'll kill almost any bug that walks over it. It makes tiny micro abrasions on their exoskeletons that basically dehydrates them to death
