Your video saved me a whole boat load of cash. I went to start my 2001 Ford Ranger and the end of the cylinder broke off inside the ignition switch and my truck dead in the parking lot. I was able to purchase a new ignition at my local NAPA store but they were not able to give me one with a transponder key. However the ignition switch fit and I was able to turn on all the electrical but not start my truck. After watching your video I tried to use my original key by placing it as close to the ignition switch as I could and turning the new key to try and start the engine. IT WORKED ! I did however have to take the plastic cover off the underside of the steering wheel. 3 phillips screws, less than a minute to remove in order to get the transponder key close enough. A million thanks !

Good idea, I've done this and it works. I also had a pass key ($10) on the same ring as the chip key and it also works. I leave the pass key on the ring and remove it for the kids to get in boot etc when I need to, they cant start the car with pass key this way but after taking out transponder and gluing it to steering column, THEY ALL WORK ALL THE TIME. Well done

Thank You - You save me heaps - instead of buying a new programmed key from dealer at $150 - it Cost me only $6.00 blank from ebay and $10 labour cost for cutting the blank. ow my new key works like a charm.

This is a very good video and money saver. You will always have those who looks for what they perceive to be a deceptive explanation. But whether it is a true by-pass or not doesn't matter at all as long as it works and saves money. Yes, the chip is still needed or there will be no communication between the key and the car. So I will encourage all to be very careful to not lose the chip. Make sure it is very secured in the key shroud area with a very good glue or tape. If you lose this chip, you will pay for it. Excellent video. Oh by the way, Home Depot makes the chip keys for about a third the price of the ford dealers.

Thanks for talking about the door in the Ford-style key, that was a handy bit of info. I took the transponder out of my Mazda key by pulling the door straight out. The door is a long piece of plastic that extends into the key body and inside the plastic housing was a tube-shaped transponder. It looked like the chip our vet put into our dog. I found that the transponder can't be too close and can't be too far away from the lock cylinder. If it was touching the lock cylinder in the steering column, it would not work. So I put it in a small length of plastic refrigerator ice-maker tubing and melted the ends to seal it in there, and zip-tied the tubing to the lock cylinder. The transponder hangs down and out of the way. I also had to make sure the transponder was out of the way of the shifter linkage before putting the housing back together.

Worked for my 2003 Ford Taurus w/ factory "S" coded key. !!! Note: Chip is in lower right corner as looking at Ford logo and set in only 1/8" from corner. Avoid cutting here !!! From right edge of logo across top (just chop off loop) and all left side you can cut deeply to the key with no damage to chip. Had to pry against key and peel back with pliers to remove factory cover and chip. After several tries I found placing chip at 1 o'clock position AGAINST the black ring which energizes / reads the chip worked. Sealed chip into duct tape and held it there. Thanks Lessco, this saved me $70.

Wow, amazing some of the comments! Personally, I think this info is worthwhile. I've got an older beater car worth maybe a grand and minimum coverage on it. Not too worried about it getting stolen. What I do want is another key, without paying more than a couple of bucks for it. If this gets me there, I win. Thanks for a great video. These idiotic transponder keys are sad excuses to charge insane prices for duplicate keys. A "key" is still a key and frankly that is all the security I've had for every car I've owned up until I bought an RX-8. I can't believe people ever accepted the concept of paying hundreds of bucks for a spare key! More computer crap = more things to fail. BTW I just looked at the insane turn on your car 3 times open and close the door over and over while you lock and unlock the drivers door thing. You guys know that some programmer wrote this code for laughs. Right? think the marketing folks who came up with the hundreds of dollars spare key nonsensee are laughing themselves sick when they go to the bank with your money. Personally for added security I took the duplicate key money and used it to put in a useful car alarm system.

Another time this might be useful is in a situation where the key won't turn the cylinder on the lock. Ignition switch replacement and reprogramming are a little pricey. If you took out the transponder, you could leave the key in the ignition rather than replace, and when you want to drive just attach the transponder near the switch. You could make some type of pocket and mount it near the switch, into which you could slide the transponder.

I would had like to see a more detailed position on where to put the key over the long part about saving the mold key lol. Either way definitely seems like it would work I was thinking of doing the exact same thing but putting the chip kinda in the steering column to hide it. My mother purchased a used Honda crv with only 1 remote key. I can program the remote however that's not gonna help with the chip working the ignition unless I do as you said. I have a few questions 1st the keys I'll be using are remote key fobs with chips that are easily removed. Will these work as well on the Honda. Also will the key work for the door and is there a chip reader in the door locks.

In order to complete the bypass, the transponder will need to be placed permanently onto the ignition keyhole. This way, any key will work since the antitheft system will always recongnise the transponder (permanently attached).

Lot of work. Much easier to hide the one good transponder key under the floor mat, or ashtray, or anywhere not obvious, and handy, make as many non-transponder keys as you want, then only use 'dummy' keys to get into car, grab the real key and take off. Of course if you remove transponder key from car and lose it, you're screwed.

I'm a locksmith and the reason why we don't cut them is because the cheap Chinese Keys are sent with the wrong program chip. Also the keys don't sit right on the machines. Last some of these eBay, Amazon specials have Alloy Metal which mess up our cutter wheels that cost $300 plus. Also most locksmith shops are mom and pop and depend on business like this to stay afloat. All because we care to give you a good product. We also take on going car education to service our customers.
@eksine
@eksine 8 лет назад
this is incorrect. I was able to go to walmart and they told me only their transponder keys work for their programmer, WRONG. I gave them 4 keys bought from ebay, first one didn't cut right so I went to 2 other walmarts, one walmart didn't even have the keys to their key display but the 3rd walmart all 3 ebay keys were cut and programmed and they did work in the car, the cut's were not good on 2 of them because it was a copy from a copy, no original key was available but my other honda key was original and it was cut and programmed perfectly. so your information is wrong
@jasonsuthern6326
@jasonsuthern6326 8 лет назад
+eksine They use an Ilco brand programmer cloner. If you have an older Honda like early 2000 plus. Then most cloner equipment like that will clone what you brought in which is a TP05. Newer Hondas and Dodge etc. with remote heads don't work half the time because these eBay companies sell customers the wrong chips to add keys to vehicles with computers that have to be connected. Which are newer 2008 and up.

you might also want to add, as an annotation, that if the transponder is damaged at any point during this removal the cost of repair is anywhere from $500-1200 to reprogram the module on the vehicle that stores which transponder is valid. This is in addition to not being able to start your car too.... as a locksmith of 20 years, i can't really approve of doing this... but this WILL work. and as for using another key that has a transponder on a lock that has this 'bypass'.... each transponder sends what is basically a password (16-32 digit hexadecimal password) to the computer that controls either the starter, or the fuel pump. if you have two keys in proximity of the antennae under the ignition cap the car won't know which password to verify. regarding how far the transponder has to be to be picked up by antennae? from the keyhole itself.... about the size of a soft ball... that is about how big the magnetic field is in these transponder keys that go into an ignition. the field is much much larger in cars that have a 'Push to start' button

I have a European Nissan Patrol 4X4 similar to a Landcruiser. I damaged one key and had the problem that I could not get another one coded to match the other one good key I had where I live in the Caribbean. I just removed the steering column cover and zip tied the good key to the barrel. No risk of damage to the glass encapsulated RFID (Chip) by trying to extract it from the key plastic and yes these often come in a glass vial, real easy to break. There is no messing with the wiring. Took a little time to get it positioned right. Its been there now for nearly three years and my vehicle goes off road shaking things up real well. Purchased a couple of regular keys to have cut with aftermarket keyfob plips to operate the door locks and just signed them onto the system, It may not work for all cars, it depends on the sensitivity of the receiver on the lock barrel but just try a few positions keeping the head of the key as close to the key end of the barrel as possible and rotate the key a few times, checking at which point it will start. Took me about 1 minute.

I have found a key fob with flip out key that uses a 4D63 chip & suplosedly the remote part works for my vehicle. Would I be able to take the 4C chip out of the key, and place it in the key fib instead if the 4D63 chip and have it work the same?

Now any one can steal your car with a flathead, hammer and vice grip. I'm a certified automotive Locksmith and would recommend not to bypass the cars factory theft system. A transponder keys for that Ford is only $5.00 on the Web and most Locksmiths will program for less than $50.00 keeping the integrity of the vehicle intact also that valet Toyota key is also on about $5.00. BTW it is not called a pickup ring

Rak Sack i bought a used 2006 toyota corolla with only one set of keys, and they got lost. I now have an uncut key, and an unprogrammed remote. i need to get these both programmed and i have nothing programmed. on the phone the local locksmith people are telling me it'll be about $200, but its just the phone lady and i don't know if i believe her. can a locksmith do this, or does it require me having toyota do it? (toyota would cost me about $600 from the sound of it)

daNATEP once you got your new key cut....order few cheap ones (about $9) from the internet so you will have some spares....there is an instruction on how to program them, keys and remote, and its very easy.....the only problem is most big hardware stores dont want to cut chip keys anymore if you did not buy it from them....but still you can go to locksmiths where they will charge you about $10 for the same work if they will duplicate a regular key for $3 :D

I have a 2004 Toyota and I broke the key with the chip in it. I have a non-chip key that I use and then I touch the broken key with the chip to the key in the ignition where there is metal showing at top. From my experience it seems like I have to make contact with the key for this to work. This video is describing a technique where you just have to get the chip close to the sensor. Maybe my key works in a different way. I will play around with it to see if just having the key near will work. Any thoughts?

just don't tell your insurance company because they will void your fire & theft also if your buying from let's say a Toyota used car dealer insist on a spare chip key or you can go to walmart and for less than 40 bucks have a key cut & programed If you loose or damage that tiny chip it will costs hundreds to get a new key and program the whole security system

Absolutely right - this invalidates your theft insurance in the same way as if you left the key in the glove box. It's a stupid "bypass" only done by unscrupulous locksmiths and witless car owners.

Lessco Electronics. I have just one key to a 2008 PT Cruiser. From looking on eBay I see it uses a key blank transponder with a #46 chip. I am not clear on if the key could have a clone made so it would be a duplicate of the one key I have rather then having it programmed into vehicles ECU as a second key (of which I understand there can be a max of 8 keys programmed in). If I understand correctly a clone can be made on a separate piece of electronic key making equipment by reading whats on the original keys chip and programming that onto the clone. If my understanding correct on this? If it is, is this cloning possible for the 2008 PT Cruiser key with #46 chip? I also have a second question. My original key has the remote access/alarm set buttons on grip. Going through the procedure to program in 2 separate Dorman fobs (not on a keys grip), is there any chance of screwing up the function of the original keys correct workings/programming with the vehicles ECU? Thanks for any input.

Thanks for posting this video! Don't even respond to the others giving you grief :) I have an Isuzu Rodeo that came with one key and I CANNOT get more keys! There is no Isuzu near me to make any and the locksmiths around here can't as well. So I'm going to put my chip near my ignition and use non-programmed chip keys that the locksmith WILL cut but can't program. I am terrified to lose my one key because then my husbands work car is just scrap metal. There is definitely use for this video. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do!

OK it gets the job done, even though it is not a true bypass. You can analyze all day and talk about being able to program a GM computer, and this is not a true bypass. You do have to admit, it gets the job done, and if the ad had said something like how to make sure your car starts every time, and eliminates your bypass anti theft system, you probably would not be able to get all of that in the space they give you to put in the title of the video. So give the guy a break. No I do not know him, and have never had any correspondence with him. If it does the job, get it, if it doesn't, then don't buy it. This is easy stuff here.

@joeyfitzpatrick6906
@joeyfitzpatrick6906 9 лет назад
If you want to find you "Door Code" for your explorer, You need to locate your GEM(General Electric Module). Not sure what year your explorer is, but most explorer GEM modules are mounted on the back of your fuse block(Under Dash fuse block just left of the steering column) On the GEM module, there will be a Label/Sticker with lots of numbers and info.(Part #'s and Serial #'s) There will be 5 numbers larger than the rest. This number is your Master Door Code. This number is unique to the GEM itself and can not be changed.(You can add extra codes though. Read how in your owners manual) Sometimes you can use a mirror to see the number with out removing the fuse panel. To lock the doors you simply push both of the right side buttons at the same time(7/8 & 9/0) quickly press the buttons again to set your alarm(if it is equipt with one). to unlock- enter your code. If you want to open the other doors too, press 3/4 after you enter code(on some models it is not 3/4, its the last number of your code- after code is entered just press the last # again)

I’ve done this to my 2007 Focus, I had to use a razor to shave down the plastic around key and found the chip,I removed the cover from the steering column and once I did that I put the chip near the ignition to find the right spot for it to read it, I put the key in and turned it to start the car each time,every time you move the chip to another spot you have to remove key and put it back in again or it won’t read it, after a trying a few times I found the correct spot to put it, I used gorilla glue to put it on just above the ignition. Did this a few weeks ago and it still reads it and I use a key without a chip.

There should be after market company’s to buy the key from. Then go to your local dodge dealer give them proof of owner ship and they have to give you a vehicle PIN number 4 digit code. Find a shop with a scanner capable of programming a key. You should get out of this for 200 bucks. Dodges are super easy.

Doesn't this also trick the car into thinking that you have left the key in the car? Wont this screw with security systems and engine mobilizers or even not allowing you to lock your car as many cars will not arm or allow locking if the key is in the ignition? (Or in this case, transponder?) You could ruin an expensive key if not careful.. I'd recommend you have a cheap key made, and tape it in the approximate area of the cylinder and see what affects leaving that key / transponder would be BEFORE hacking a nice, expensive key.

+jack you are so wrong in many cars not older than 10 years you may have problem if the key is in the car or in proximity ( less or more 10 feet) you cant lock your doors (from outside) if the key is in the car and if nowbody is in the car after 5 min the alarm is start your black box will see always the presence of the key this may vary from car to car optional you buy and country in my outlander 2008 if you have the parasolar open you could not lock the dors an many other things

+jack i agree that is totally different but this is not bypassing and it can have security and insurance issue even if is practically very small risk the insurance company will use this against you this is maybe out off topic but many machinery/equipment use same type of key and the risk is much higher i have done this and i will doit again if necessary

I appreciate the video and idea of what to do however I decided not to butcher the key tape it on which again was a great idea. I had changed the lock cylinder and the old key is now just for the doors basically even though it has the chip in it. So then I thought what if I just leave it on the key chain and hold next to the new in chipped key and you were right it does read it or trick the car into thinking its being used and Ta da it is just fine. So thanks again for ideas and help!!! Steve

Pony Brony Only if your car is a Saab might cost you that much. That is the only car that I think would cost that much for a duplicate. Not even a Ferrari or VW, Mercedes They might cost 95.00 just for a plane key that has chip + a full Insurance Liability would not cover any of a stolen car with an existed so call "by pass" after all, they were the ones to requested the dealers and anti-theft system since some of their customer were scamming insurance by robing themselves, if you have a bad remote start installation on a anti-theft, your insurance will denied any coverage since you gave up the only secure to a car thieve.

***** I'm wrong about what? Those keys without a chip would go for around 50.00 in our shop. That's a pretty fair price. The insurance companies do investigations specifically to find out whether there was a bypass, an after market remote starter, or an immobilizer turned off. For cars of course only that have chips and have full coverage insurance.

I'm trying to open up the case by using a prying tool (used for IT) that looks like a guitar chip), but I can only do that 'temporarily'. Like it doesn't want to open up completely. It closes back right when I try to slide all the way around the key. Do you have tips for me?
