Episode 1 - Transport Fever 2
We're setting out into the Free Game mode, starting in 1900 on medium difficulty, with the US vehicle set and a small randomly generated 1:3 map. The cities are from Minnesota, there's a giant river running north to south and we're going to connect everything (via a mainline!).

The devs have done a really good job with this game. Thanks for taking the time to explain how the industies work now. It's quite a change from TpF and for the better too I think. You're right, it doesn't matter what the industry does with the goods.

1900+ has a nice selection of vehicles without being too easy or too slow. We'll start progressing through the years once the initial money train is in (I have a plan). :)

I like how the cities are accurate from north to south. Hibbing is all the way up on the iron range and Bloomington is a southern suburb of Minneapolis.

This is what I've been waiting for. I was hoping you were gonna play on a large map, but having seen this, I kinda like this map, It looks quite manageable, but also with some challenges, and it certainly feels a lot bigger when your at a lower altitude. I'm also really pleased that your playing a temperate map. I'm just so fed up with watching all the other RU-vidrs playing tropical maps. I think temperate looks far better. Look forward to the next one.

Cheers Shaun! As the mainline starts to form, the challenge will be more evident that's for sure. It's going to be tough keeping the track moving, and I think I'll limit it to 4 tracks too.

So in Transport Fever 2 there aren't desert maps (like in OpenTTD for example) where you have to supply towns with water for them to grow? That would be neat I think :)

About 15 minutes in, I noticed some... weirdness going on with the trucks load XD Oh well, pre-releases always have a few bugs! Really enjoyed the video though. About a week to go now - I can't wait!

Watching from Minnesota! Nice choice of town names. (Edit) The Minneapolis Quarry could be the St. Cloud Quarry as well. Long closed now, but it was a granite quarry Near St. Cloud, MN. Also, the Great Northern Railway Station in Minneapolis was once down along the Mississippi River and so we're the tracks. I think that would b le the better place for your Minneapolis passenger station. The real station unfortunately doesn't exist anymore (the site is now a Federal Reserve).

We'll certainly change the quarry name today, as for the station - the emissions may be a problem early on, especially with steam, not only that there's a bunch of houses which will cost us a small fortune to demolish. However, later on - once we have the funds, it might be a nice experiment to move the station onto the bank. :)

As lovely as the tropical climate looks, I'm a bit of a fan of temperate. And, as you said, there's plenty of examples of the tropics/asian combos out there. :)

At first, I was excited for the Asian stuff, but then I saw it was all Russian and Chinese trains. It’s cool that we have a new set of vehicles to play with, but I was hoping for more than just Europe 2.0. I mean, Japan and India have really interesting trains. Why not add them into the game? Having said that, it’s the *only* thing about Transport Fever 2 that’s disappointed me so far, and I’m still thrilled for the 12th! (And before you ask, no I don’t have the date confused; I live in the Eastern Hemisphere.)

@@TotoDG The only japanese train I saw in TF2 was the shinkansen, but it hardly makes a difference. And while USSR trains are slightly interesting, most things produced at that time was very similar to each other and don't present much of a difference in the game, at least not from the gamer's viewpoint.

I mean, if your overall Intension isn’t to make a model railway with major stations and various train sets, I think more prep isn’t gonna be needed! (Still watch it tho! Tpf2 content is Tpf2 content so yeah)

The nice thing is, I should be able to run the Midlands and [insert TpF2 freeplays here], side-by-side. Should hopefully give me a chance to bring the recreation to a satisfactory conclusion.

Honestly for a mainline, a boat service would seem to make a lot of sense for this map. Only problem is there speed :P

It would almost work, wouldn't it? Except for maybe Hibbing in the north. As you said, it would be super slow. That would make for a challenging map though, especially one with a river running through a mountain range, where trains would be ridiculously expensive and impractical to set up!

Upper Midwest is reasonable. There’s plenty of bluffs on the Mississippi, and where Hibbing is actually located there’s plenty of exposed rock. Although upper Minnesota is more on the Canadian Shield than the Midwest.

The Grand Rapids on this map is the one in Itasca County, Minnesota, a little southwest of Hibbing. :)

Since those trucks can carry all goods, I would have done it Stone-Factory-Town and return in one line, then the truck would pick up after he drops off, 2 loads out of one vehicle

It's a valid way of doing it, absolutely. I prefer them seperate as it's easier to balance rates, there's also the fact we'll be slowly increasing the stone section to double that of the brick delivery.

You should pay off as much loan as possible, and only borrow when you need it, that save you some money as the interest is charged monthly and not annually in TF2. The good thing about Minneapolis and Grand Rapid is the both produce each others needs locally, which should make the freight train very profitable.

It was an issue of some contention at the time (lots of confusion after TpF1). There were a lot of people on the forums making incorrect assumptions.

Why are loops preferred in Transport Fever despite point-to-point lines being preferred by real-life designers? Edit: I have a slight selection bias because I only watch certain RU-vidrs.

I believe I do explain more, further into the series. However, it's mainly for cosmetic value. The time/date and economy simulation time have no correlation.

I will certainly try and progress through at a decent rate. With medium difficulty, it'll just take a little while to get going. It should snowball eventually though. I plan to run it with the date paused a little between episodes so we can keep moving forward at a steady pace. :)

That made me chuckle a little bit, as recreating railways isn't usually profitable. However, it maybe fun to remove the no-cost mod for a special episode/live-stream, just see how quickly it eats through the billions.
