In this video I'm trying to point out a few things i learned along the way for how to actually start making money with passengers. It's in response to a question i received from you, and i hope it helps you.
This video focuses on Bus, Tram and Train routes. If you want to know more about ship and plane transport, let me know, and I will try to come up with another scheme.
For more 'How To' videos check back here, and if you have any questions and want help, leave a comment and I'll make something for you.
Thanks for watching!
HAVE FUN!

It is nice to see someone using more stops...I came here as most use 2 or 3 stops, and I was not sure my many stop strategy was not wasted. Usually I make a 3-4 stop loop, about as dense as your style. But I have 1 or 2 stops that share with another loop or have one on the next corner for transferring. For MossIey, I would have the north residential area a loop, the south west commercial area one a loop and then the south east industrial area a loop, and then have them connect on the main road where they intersect, instead of the one large loop. I am not sure if it is best or not, which is why I was watching. I did have a game with a crowded stop that was 2 stops from the train station, so I made a direct line to that stop but it never profited, 150+ people wanted to wait at the one stop, while 5 or 6 crossed the street to use the new rout. I am not sure why that did not help, as most of the people were getting off at the train station. It was nice to see that the people like to go from housing to commercial or industry. I don't need to focus on connecting my industry and commercial loops. I'll probably use a lot of this to refine my small connected loops style. It's really a lot of what I learned playing Cities in Motion, transferring over to this game. It's hard to say if my way is better, I tend to make profits so far, but I am still pretty new at the game, and I'll have to play around and try different things, like I did adding the direct route, and try to see what does and does not work.

Hello. Good video. Thank you for it. I finally solved my unprofitable public transport. This is how bad my public transport situation was: 1) I had 3 bus lanes in 3 cities which profits were -$30 000/year each. These bus lanes had forms of squares. 2) I had railway with train for passengers which both had cost ~$6 000 000 and profit -$1 000 000/year which length were 20 kilometers. 3) $25 000 000 of debt. 4) $500 000 of money. Thanks to your video I now have: 1) 3 tram lanes in 3 cities which has stations in living, commercial, factory areas which profits are $30 000/year, -$30 000/year, $0/year. 2) Tram lane which connects 3 cities which profit is $1 000 000/year and 300 people capacity. 3) $25 000 000 of money to pay the debt. 4) Growing cities.

At least the programmers got the actions of the people right, for we are all a lazy lot when given the choice.

The trains in this game are weird. I'm so used to the trains in W&R and TTD. The trains in W&R work similar to TTD but TTD was cool cause you could wreck trains. Also monorail and maglev came out in the later game and it was fun to tear down your old train lines and build them to increase profit and speed. I've seen people play the multiplayer version of OpenTTD version online recently. Looked pretty fun if you can deal with the graphics. I wish W&R or TF2 would would get an AI company to play against cause that was be so much fun. Sorry man, meant to just talk about train signals here but these games bring back some fond memories.

Tpf2 would very much benefit from AI players, but a lot of the current meta is build pretty, not necessarily play hard (I still prefer play hard with a hint of pretty;) )

@@bballjo Hello, do you have an exemple of a game with a similar engine that has a pathfinding AI good enough to compete with humans? I can see that in a grid based game like Transport Tycoon but now, in a game like TpF2? Gotta be pretty expnsive to devlop, if possible...
@bballjo
@bballjo 3 года назад
Are you talking about dynamic pathfinding? I would say an AI can only be as good as it's been programmed for, and even then it will only function up to the point it's it's program limitations...so I don't think there currently is a simulation game that can rival a human... however I have 2 candidates that I like that allow for more dynamic pathfinding: workers and resources Soviet Republic, voxel tycoon...I'm currently playing both of them, and if you haven't played either let me point out that voxel tycoon has a much smaller learning curve, but worker and resources is a lot more rewarding...

@@bballjo I just found you channel and currently looking at your video list. workers and ressources sure sound interesting. I'm gonna stick with TpF2 for the moment (new to this game but ultra fan of PS1 Transport Tycoon back in the days), the beast is devouring my time like a black hole. The learning curve thing is not a problem for me, I love to learn (big fan of X series from egosoft here). And thank you for the passenger How to video, it's much clearer now and I like your way of explaining things. The game lets you think that a stop is ok for all the catchment area but i found that weird. I'm searching your videos for advices on good ways to deliver goods to towns, especially early on (spamming carts drives me mad and feels wrong) especially because the game limits options to spread the load. Regarding the AI matter, seeing how TpF2 is laying down roads for its towns, can't imagine it laying down tracks that doesn't look like nonsensical spaghettis, I may be wrong an I hope so :) Just a bit of feedback, your video was great but I found the BGM a bit too loud and distracting, not really problematic. Thank you for reading, cheers from France.

I would love if there were at least just other trucks and logistics operations happening between towns, even if it was purely cosmetic. Actual implementation with features like existing industries already having existic logistics contracts and giving you the option to start with a small industry and eventually build up to buying out contracts to run cargo for other industries. I thought earlier about how cool it would be to have other companies pay to use your rail and have their own depots and trains running on their own schedules alongside your own. I want to play tall but this game pushes you to play as wide as possible
