Didn't know you could spilt platforms, this will come in handy indeed

Absolutely, I first discovered that taking out a length of platform let you split up your stations but then realised that simply using standard track would do the the same job and look a whole lot nicer! Look forward to seeing what designs you come up with.

Yes, they certainly are, it's been fun discovering how far they can be pushed. Though ... I still _really_ miss curved stations. 😥

I've played this game for 200 hours and didn't know you could split platforms like this...
@AjaxpostPlays
@AjaxpostPlays 2 года назад
I know, it's crazy isn't it when you realise ... "oh! the game does _that!_" If you like split stations, I've also done a video where I drive a road through the middle of one! To be honest, this was one of the first features I wanted to understand so went straight to it but even now, over 450 hours in, I'm still picking up new tricks! 😎

I wanted to make a split consist of pass and cargo. I knew it had to be a 2 stop process at 1 station just didn't understand all the modular trics. Endless possibilities. Thanks.

Good to hear from you and thank you. I loved discovering how much was possible with just the base game modules, adds a whole lot of fun to the game. Hope you're having fun with it.

Many thanks, this was very helpful! It did, though, not answer the question which originally brought me here (or I missed it, which is entirely possible): If I have a station track running between two platforms, one freight, one for passengers, how do I assign this track to the platform I need it to service?
@AjaxpostPlays
@AjaxpostPlays Год назад
Hi, great to hear from you, and happy to hear that the video was helpful. 😊 With regard to mixed stations, it's the same rule that platforms must be adjacent to 'station' track (not ordinary track) in order to be recognised as a platform. I also like to make the freight and passenger station names different so I can be sure I'm putting the correct one in the line. To get trains to move from one platform to another you will generally need some track (usually ordinary track) between the two platforms so that trains can switch over. If you have a length of single track and platforms on either side of it then trains will only be able to visit either the passenger platform side or the freight platform side, *not* both ... _unless_ they can proceed between them. If you've not found it yet, this should be explained more clearly in my video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ijFZIQS8H1k.html Good luck!

@@AjaxpostPlays Thank you for the very comprehensive response! Your description "have a length of single track and platforms on either side of it then trains will only be able to visit either the passenger platform side or the freight platform side, not both" describes my conundrum; if a train, consisting of both passenger as well as goods cars, rolls in on station track, with a passenger platform on the left and a freight platform on the right, or vice versa: (1) ...what will be unloaded? (2) ... can I configure this? Also, I had a passenger train with the simplest of routes, set up from A to B, which refused to leave the station A, simply because the station track on B had a passenger platform on one side and a freight platform on the other. Interestingly, this didn't trigger any routing error message, the train was quite comfortable sitting at station A doing nothing, thank you very much. Only when I rebuilt the platforms so that a track would only border one platform (a passenger platform in this case), could my train be bothered to move from A to B. Go figure. 😃
@AjaxpostPlays
@AjaxpostPlays Год назад
@Max Stirner Ahh, yeah, I had a feeling that single track thing was what you were doing! 😉 First off, it's not a good design but yes, you can configure it. 1) Give the two stations (they are stations not just platforms) different names so you can tell what you're doing. 2) Assuming this mixed setup is at point B in your route from A to C you will need to go from A to B making one of these two stations (e.g. pax) as the second stop, carry on to C and come back to B and stopping at the other station (e.g. cargo). You cannot go from B to B. Though A or C could just be a waypoint or signal, not necessarily another station. Alternatively have a very long length of track, say 6 lengths then put down 3 of one type of platform (e.g. pax) on one side of the track and then 3 lengths of the other platform type (e.g. cargo) on the SAM side of the track. This will allow your train to travel from one station (pax) to the next (cargo). Because they are treated as two separate stations your train must be able to _move_ between them. Must admit, I'm also bemused by your unmoved train. My best guess is that it was confused about going passenger to cargo or something like that ... 🤔 If in doubt I do recommend taking some screenshots and asking on the Steam Forums, there's plenty of experienced folk there who can unravel most any problem.

Here is a station with the middle "station rails" converted to normal track and cross rail placed too. The train stops in the first position (left) as a Pax station and then moves to the Good station part to the right. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LpzLTB0iitc.html ... After using this station complex I also noted that when the train ( Pax and Logs) enters the station at the Circus it unloads the passengers (as configured) the moves on to the Freight side to the right and unloads Logs (also configured) .. then (Not Configured) it returns to the Pax side of the station (left) and loads up departing travelers from the Circus .. This was not expected but an added bonus of making the modular platforms in this way so that an extra 48 Pax were taken away from the venue. ( of course this would probably not happen to the Through station but a terminus station does add this extra feature of unloading the Pax and Freight and loading (Not Configured). with the through' station the platform's layout could be (Pax-Freight-Pax) then inbound and out bound would happen as shown above and may need to be a configured process, or the same would result as (Freight-Pax-Freight) configuration. Lastly a question I would want to answer later is. If a station for example unloads logs and loads planks does a multi modular station configuration enable more efficient loading of the Planks as it's could be done in one named station and have two platforms (freight-standard rail-Freight) and stop twice, once for unloading logs and the second time for loading planks? an interesting concept I will trial very soon, at alternate timber yards and see what other configuration I might find that work more efficiently. I love the way a train can enter a station at one platform and with the use of a cross over divert to the alternate line from the middle of the first line to the second, all interesting Theories you all might like to consider.
@AjaxpostPlays
@AjaxpostPlays Год назад
Simple and effective, that's the way. 👍
@AjaxpostPlays
@AjaxpostPlays Год назад
I must admit, I have not seen that 'return visit' behaviour that you describe without the station actually being the next stop in the line. But, this video is quite old now, so it's possible some rules may have changed over time...? As for the logs/planks loading question, I would expect any benefit to be quite small - it is, after all, the same station serving the same customers and setting min/max load times should (I expect) to do the same job as waiting at another platform. Absolutely agree, the ability to switch tracks within a station enables all sorts of interesting (and more realistic?) designs.
@kayrose2095
@kayrose2095 Год назад
It is possible to do a diamond crossing between the two stations, you need to start at the track ends only or it won't let you (info in case others didn't know)
@AjaxpostPlays
@AjaxpostPlays Год назад
Indeed, I show crossings within a station in Examples 2 and 3 (starting at 04:50). There are many great layouts you can create just messing around, adding and removing elements.

Hi, yeah, RU-vid can come up with unexpected recommendations! I have been thinking about doing a basic route-building video, so what sort of thing would you like to see covered? In the meantime, you may find this video helpful - it does talk more specifically about routes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ijFZIQS8H1k.html Don't give up on the game though, once you understand the basic rules it is great fun.
