Hey guys! This was an accident we worked recently, where a Ram 3500 pulling a car carrier, loaded with a 2022 Ford F-250, lost control, and rolled over on a bridge. Thankfully the driver was uninjured.
I am by no means a expert on car hauling but having watched Jason Kendal and The Load Mizer youtube channels that guy had that big truck in the wrong place. Gravity wins every time.
Yep! I was searching waiting for a comment like this one. Should have had it loaded facing forward and the engine just in front of the trailer axles maybe 4-5 ft with the majority of the truck loaded over the trailer axles. Some live and learn, but some will live and never learn
@@NeoMKthat ford was bought from the auction and was being transported to a client. It already had salvage title prior to the accident. So there is no real value to that truck. I can tell by the decal on the windshield. It was from a salvage auction. So there is no write off to speak of
@@Towtruck_Dustin It would suck for the vehicle he slid into, but as for damages, he would have been better off keeping it straight and sliding straight into another vehicle. You can tell by the way his rig and trailer landed that he wasn't going very fast when it rolled over, so If he had just locked the brakes and kept it straight I don't think he would have hit another vehicle that hard. Maybe 20 to 25mph. and doing that just the RAM would have been damaged. Well, and the vehicle he would have hit, But when it comes to spit-second actions, most of the time the body reacts and tries to turn and avoid hitting anyone else. Just glad nobody was hurt, that's what matters most.
I don’t know who Donny is to you but I can’t say that I liked him at all, he lacked the ability to see the angles & predict what the Ford truck was going to do, his only good call throughout that stage of the recovery was about the Ford truck being caught on the guard rail. His pulling angle was all wrong & he was mostly dismissive of any ideas other than his own. The last major annoyance of this particular job was the guy in red, getting under your feet & trying to tell you how to do the job ! Still it all got sorted out, great assistance & advice from you Dustin, you are the kind of people I enjoy working with.
Watching from France, and can say : awesome job, good team work also !!! Start to follow you channel since few weeks and really love it 🤩 Take care Regards from France
@@Towtruck_Dustin A few weeks ago I was down to Bay City a few almost 2 weeks and never realized how close Angleton is but it looks close to the gulf. Great shrimp 🦐 and seafood like we have up here in New England
We had a wreck on 105 just outside of Vidor TX. I watched from my porch and saw tow trucks with red and blues. It's very effective for slowing down traffic as I witnessed.
Dustin, Nice Job! You are on your game. I like the way you set up your truck. Very neat and organized. Donnie not so much. What is he allergic to WORK GLOVES? Where is his snatch block? He doesn't always listen to you. Yes winch down low. Didn't know truck was under the guard rail. Good pull by both of you. Keep up the good work. Donnie, PUT YOUR GLOVES ON!
Well done, I was happy to see you take charge & reroute the snatch block to the pass. side & shorten the snatchblock chain.. I was literally talking to my computer screen saying What are you doing? when he rigged with the snatch on the close drivers side & left the chain long.. that was bad enough.. then he raised the boom & literally put the pull point right back where it was when straight off the boom sheave...chain it short & pull low.... BTW... when ya get one that slides & doesn't wanna grab to roll... sometimes a simple floor mat under a tire will give enough to grab until the rubber sidewall catches.. but if the roads are icy & there's nothing to bite... take a chain and zigzag it in front of the tires on the pavement... when you apply even a little pull, it makes the tire sidewall bite into the chain links & starts to transfer slide into downward grip until the tire grabs.... simple but effective. Another trick to control the pull angle...since you had one winch line fail during this...down to a single line pull... if you have a chain bridle rigged up on the vehicle to a single winch point.... if you need to keep the winch hook in a certain place instead of "skipping" to the side of the chain bridle as ya pull.... take the grab hook from a chain & hook it into the bridle you're hooked to... then the winch can't pull past the grab hook & allows the pull to stay where you want it...allows you to steer/direct your pull... all with single line
Now this time I'm with you on this Donnie need to go back in training he don't like to listen to nothing this the second recovery I seen him do and damn you look frustrated every time retrain him immediately Dustin you did a good job this 👍👍
Not to jump on the train, but he seems arrogant as hell. I've towed hundreds of vehicles many years ago. It's an art. Dustin your awesome sir. Doing a great job from what I can see.
Great strap and chain on wrecker i use all chain and 2 straps on my personal trailer I don't feel comfortable just using straps over tire I use that and 4 extra methods of securing vehicle.... with safety chain front and rear .. awesome video thanks for posting 👍
@quagmiredavis4117 You kinda missed the point. If a flipped over vehicle, is still held in place by the straps.... that SHOULD tell you that you AREN'T "taking chances". Do you also drive 40 mph in the passing lane, on a wide open interstate/freeway, to be "extra safe"?
The issue is that they leave one on the highest point in the ramp. EXTREMELY high centered. Just a probable accident waiting to happen. Just pure laziness. After they unload the others, they should back the last vehicle to the farthest back on the trailer.
2nd issue that no one addresses with these wedge haulers. A lot of them use the factory Ram 5th wheel plate thinking its sturdier than a gooseneckball. Its a dual pivoting 5th wheel plate specifically designed for hauling RV's. It allows just as much movement as a gooseneck ball.
@George Thank You for pointing out the #1 issue. I figured it was obvious by the way the truck was loaded on the trailer that this driver was a rookie and had no clue what he was doing. And clearly you've never seen or used a factory Ram 5th wheel plate either. But you're right, I have no clue what I'm talking about.
This type of car carrier is illegal in the UK for this very reason so are artic couplings on non HGV vehicles as the trailer is bigger than the towing vehicle which is inheritently unsafe.
I know you probably been telling a long time, but by running chains straight back on your bed, they could come loose and the truck could walk its way off the side of the truck, I have seen it happen, even to but the truck didn't come off as bad cuz I saw it going that way, I always Crossing in the back that way it can't go anywhere
Carroll Watson: May I ask where you drove? I Am insulting you, But It does not sound as if you have traveled much further them maybe 50 miles from home. What Companies have you pulled for? I can name many I have carried their loads. I was a Contract Trucker and if I could load it and keep it contained I hauled it. Even to Alaska as Mexico City. I also get a kick out of these bad ass Truckers who haul LYL and are home every night and think they measure up to driver's who live in their Trucks to support their Children by what the haul. and not the stops. I have done it all. Even Manure and Barn Yard waist materials for Fertilizer when I was young. Now how many Pissed off Yellow and CFI Drivers are going to curse me out?
@Raymond F. Pittam I was in the navy ( equipment operator) eleven years. I've driven in Vietnam and Spain. Discharged in October of 1965. Since then I have driven in all the states except the north east I have a 45 year safe driving award from A. T. A. And two safe awards ( belt buckles). I retired 7 days before my 84th birthday.
@Raymond F. Pittam I have driven for General Foods truck fleet. K Lines Inc. SYSTEMS TRANSPORT out of Spokane. Hauled oil pipe in Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Texas. Also drove for Watkins and Shepherd out of Missoula. The last 6 years I hauled produce over much of the U. S. I don't tell B. S.
Had one these haulers go over on NJ turnpike a month ago. Four total vehicles and a trailer on its side. One 60 ton Rotator, 50 Ton Wrecker and Three ld response. 35 mins from wheel stop to road clear. Fun times stay safe. The small wrecker is that. Jerr Dan npl?
The bad part, the truck was a stolen recovery. It was on its way back to the owner. Was in perfect shape prior, but they lost the keys, which is why they were transporting it.
I think that it is wise to invest in a wind sock or muffler or 'dead cat' because the most important stuff you had to say was blown in the wind sadly.. but, without sound most if not all was understood by what we saw. But still, wind noise is not fun to hear all the time. Sad to see both trucks to be imho totalled. Happy to see that the driver was physical o.k...
Goood to see the police blocking traffic while the tow-truck drivers do their job! We have had two or three killed because they had no blocking. But they are classified as emergency vehicles and the penalty are good but it doesn’t bring them back!! People drive so crazy and don’t care who gets in their way,we have had several deputy’s hit and some killed !!
It sounds like Donnie is not taking care of his truck if the line was about to snap . Equipment is only if the driver/owner ( if Donnie owns the truck ) takes care of it just look at your flatbed it's in nice shape bc you take care of it . So when you comment on this remember it's a machine not human . A machine is only good if the person takes care of it . I would love to have a truck like Donnie it would handy up here .
Previous roll back operator myself here. Love the 4 point tie down. Just out of curiosity, why go for the mini j's? I always preferred the R hooks myself, alot harder for an R hook to jump out of the frame slot compared to a mini j or a t hook.
Stumbled across your vid and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looks like you have been at this for some time. What happened here? Was the driver driving to fast in the curve with the 250 on the trailer at the highest point or did some strong winds roll him over? Will be subscribing.
The driver had the trailer loaded improperly. The F250 should have been down closer to the axle, so that it wasn’t as top heavy. Looks like he came around the curve and it tipped over.
That driver must of been speeding and or on the phone... How does one manage to wreck like that...???? Great job guys... I'm glad i found your channel and subscribed...
The roll over occurred because he put the F250 too high on the trailer. It was a 4 wheel drive, lifted I think, and he put it over the bed of the Ram. He should have put the F250 low on the trailer. That was too much weight, too high in the air and on a gooseneck ball that pivots. Recipe for a roll over. When he made a turn, the F250 took the entire rig over.
I never understood why people would think it’s smart to load these big trucks up front dude was empty he could’ve easily put it near the rear of the trailer which would’ve decreased the probability of the truck flipping that F250 is in a dangerous location to heavy to be on the nose of that trailer plus that truck is getting so much air that’ll bring your MPG down too
Probably a 30 foot drop to water and there's a knee-high guardrail on that bridge. Guess they will wait for someone to go over it and die and then they will put up a proper barrier. Amazing he didn't end up in the drink.
I would love to know how that muppet manage to destroy that very expensive beautiful truck up like that when it looks really hard to get that thing off all those solid tires, well done lad !
Because he was to lazy to reposition after unloading the other vehicles , having the f350 at the top of the trailer with no other vehicles on it makes he extremely easy to roll
Lol, I'm watching for half the video thinking, why does the background look so familiar 🤔. It's definitely not missouri. Where I live. But it seems like I have just driven in the area not too long ago. Then I rewind video and see freeport on firetruck and Clute on ambulance. I realized it's by my moms in Texas, and i was just there in june😂
Dustin if I remember correctly your truck has a amber light bar but the wheel lift truck unless I was seeing things looks like it had flashing red and blues? Why is that? Awesome videos brother! Be safe out there. Can’t wait to be out doing what your doing soon! If I lived in your area I’d apply to your company 🙂
@@Towtruck_Dustin oh that’s interesting. I did not know that I know Ron Pratt they can run red and blue and siren in Missouri, because they are considered a emergency vehicle I guess. Interesting to find out what different states do. Thanks brother be safe out there!
Ron gets a lil carried away. IDC what the law said, a tow truck will NEVER be an emergency vehicle as must fly to save a life. He's drivers way too aggressive. I'm all for red and blue to the rear, towards the front only minimized EMS and law emergency response effectiveness. Ppl will think oh God, it's another tow truck.
You say that until it’s you, or your family member that’s trapped under a vehicle and you have to wait for a wrecker to get there to lift it off you. You’re entitled to your opinion, but until you do and see the things we do, day in, and day out, don’t place that judgement.
I spent the majority of my life as a professional firefighter, another ten years as a cop. No tow truck driver in the world, well, nearly NEVER is involved in the rescue of trapped people. Just not reality. I will definitely yield to you Dustin. I like your content, I like your work ethic. You sir are a class act. I've been a otr trucker the last 15 years or so, in Texas a whole lot. You folks probably DO SEE a lot more carnage than almost any other state, due to the very high speed limits, abs the massive open distances. If you say you've been actually involved in actual patient rescues, I totally believe you. That's just not reality in the majority of the remaining states. Texas, .... I'd definitely believe YOU.
Hey guys they used to be a tow truck driver to I wish I was still doing it because he was making a lot of money for doing it are used to work for A company that I heard it when I took of business but they still have a company but it’s in Los Banos are used to go on long haul rigs with the big holler and drove the small trucks in town I do miss it
Just had this same thing happen near me ! 3 f350 same colors on their sides . Haulers truck disconnected during and didn’t flip ! So so sad for everyone!
If you would have pulled the towed truck in opposite direction it was heading during the accident it would have more easily righted itself without digging into the guardrail and scrapping along the concrete. Also, you could have easily straightened the wheel on the 3500 by turning into the ON position.
I flipped a few over in the past and when they start sliding I would just through a chain on the ground at the wheels and it would stop the slide the biggest problem is the roll away when its back on 4.
I’d have rigged it differently myself, but that’s just me. As far as rolling away, that’s why I checked to see if they were in park before the roll to hopefully minimize that risk.
I was assuming to much weight, over the tow vehicle?. (And backwards?) Changes geometry. Im considering pulling the same trailer with F350 SRW. But lighter cars up front. No HUGE trucks loaded first. Light car then heavy truck then light car. I think that will work.?
