👍🏽 I wish that my colleagues who don’t bother to read their social work textbooks would come and watch your videos so that they can get educated.

Fully UnThick aw ur sweet. Hopefully u can encourage them 😊 its easy to stop reading and doing all that once u r qualified and start practicing. Thats the case for most people. However its so helpful to keep learning since we weren’t taught everything at uni. Xx

Great video! It's so nice to have someone in the field sharing such valuable info. I am a new sociology graduate hoping to get my MSW to work with victims of trafficking, so my undergraduate experience focused a lot on SW and victimized populations. I learned a lot about trauma-informed care during my time at uni, but I went to school in a county that is on the cutting edge of trauma-informed care, so I feel blessed. Through my women's studies minor classes we learned about ACEs, which also helped in my understanding of trauma-informed care. Thanks again for your wisdom!

thank you. I am a social work student in Australia. And I'm having to do an assignment which is partially on trauma informed care. And it is great to have a basic introduction like this before getting into the difficult academic texts.

just starting a program for MSW, but came to this through Narrative-Focussed Trauma Care through The Allender Center @ The Seattle School. This is the future of care, coupled with trauma-informed bodywork, yoga, arts... Thanks for sharing with the other half of the globe!

Great to hear this from a practitioner view point, and illustrate with practical examples. 👍🏽 I think that point about understanding whats behind behaviour is really key, so we can be empathetic and helpful in our responses, and not judgemental, or react to the behaviours

I can only imagine how tricky it is to help someone who still has not recognized the variety of traumas that impact who they are today. I seriously doubt that anyone gets away scott free. Beware of those with an inability to have an innocent curiosity about their own or others traumas. Let the heart lead the head in these situations.

And might I add, representation is SO important in this field. Many times, most of the clients we serve are disenfranchised/marginalized populations! So to build trust and a genuine cultural connection... that’s SO vital to this work (from my experience anyway).

Thanks for the insight into TIC. I am currently writing a master's thesis and I found the topic " Trauma informed care " very interesting. It is still a new thing in my Country ,like none of my professors know about it. There is a political crisis going on now in my country the government and other organisations are trying to provide some form of psychosocial support. My idea is checking if such support is trauma informed enough to support the traumatised population. If not so I can follow up with another project to kind of help initiate the concept and practice of TIC.

I am doing my MSW in Melbourne, trauma informed care is so important but we haven't focused on it yet as much as I'd have liked 🤔 I was thinking of doing a grad cert or dip in counselling to focus on trauma/crisis counselling more do you think this is necessary?

Hi! Your video is very inspiring and helpful! I am considering doing Master of Social Work in Australia. 1) Does social work major include research knowledge courses that allow students to design programs on their own? 2)Do you think the rank of universities matter in employment? 3)as you mentioned, social workers should make clear what they can and cannot do for their clients, so for example, how would you communicate with them ( what would you word your points ) ?

This was a great video! I too am a practicing social worker! (currently taking a little break lol) My question is are there any trauma informed practices that you know of that are tailored specifically for the aboriginal population in Australia? I am asking because I believe there might be many correlates to the indigenous population we have here in the U.S. Thanks a ton!
@JasmineAmaa

A Dose of Danna Aboriginal competence / culture awareness training is the only specific one I know of that ties in well with trauma xx

Also, for Aboriginal clients having the painting in the interview room may be a negative link between their culture, colonisation and domestic violence / violence. Even though a respectful gesture - in a mainstream institution it can be daunting for indigenous people to engage anyway due to mistrust and colonial history

What do you do if you come into the room for first meeting and client is already escalated b/c you are an hour late to the appt as a provider. They were already cussing and explosive with anger. I canceled the appt b/c I didn’t feel safe myself with them.???? Thank you in advance

Hi VJ, yes cancelling it and letting them know why you have had to cancel and then rescheduling and ensuring you are on time for the next one is the best way to go xx
