Traveling To China During Chinese New Years
How is traveling in China during the Chinese New Year?
I am returning to China after being away for a while. My comment section on RU-vid has told me it's better to avoid traveling within China during the Chinese New Years period because millions of Chinese are traveling these days. Everyone said it's going to be super crowded and busy and therefore very chaotic and stressful. Let's find out how my journey was like, I had to take two flights to reach my destination in China.

Many people's impression of the traveling during the Chinese New Years is still stuck in 10 years ago, China has built a lot of infrastructure over the years, and this year's traveling is not as chaotic and crowded as before

Happy Chinese New Year!!! by the way "肯高飞" It's a good name. "Ken" is the phonetic translation of “肯".(As a script that appeared on historical artefacts 2,000 years ago, and as a family name in Chinese tradition) and "高Gao" means "high", and "飞Fei" means "fly". "高飞high fly" is often used as a phrase. It describes a bird that spreads its wings and flies high into the sky, and it's often used to bless a person, "I hope your career flourishes and you spread your wings and fly high." The Disney character goofy also translates to "高飞high fly" in Chinese, so when I was a kid I always thought the character didn't quite fit the name, but it's a good match for you.

Ken Gao Fei is a really good name in Chinese, it matches perfectly for what you are doing, which is traveling. Gao Fei often means 远走高飞 Yuan Zou Gao Fei which means traveling very far (远走)for high flying (高飞) freedom of life in this context. The high flying (高飞) may also mean achieve great height in one’s career in another context. The fact that he could come up with this name with such a short time for you is pretty amazing to me.

Make sure you visit the Datang Everbright City (大唐不夜城) , south of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda for one of the best city night scenes in China (possibly the world too). It is a new pedestrian shopping street recently designed and completed in Tang (dynasty) style. So it’s a amazing combination of old and new.

Beijing and Shanghai are like big cities where people across the country migrate there to work. However, come Chinese New Year Eve, these migrant workers would have already left for their hometown and completed the journey just in time for Reunion Dinner on the 9th. That's why the airport has so few people. Railway might be a different story though by the 8th, the bulk of the homebound journeys should have already been done too.

I also returned to my hometown Chongqing from Shanghai on 9th Feb and I'm back to Shanghai now. I didn't encounter any crowdness in the airports either. I believe when people say avoid the holiday it means to avoid to go to scenic areas during holidays which is true. I was waiting for hours in a queue when I was in Zhangjiajie in the May festival last year.

I presume that most of the advice that travelling in China during this time is chaotic are from mostly Malaysian subscibers. In China, is a bit different from Malaysia, most probably they started from 5 days to a week before Chinese New year. So 1 or 2 days before Chinese New year, there won't be so crowded. Malaysian are different, 2 days or even New Year Eve than can be chaotic

During the Chinese New Year, most people choose to travel home by train, regardless of the distance. Moreover, they typically travel from big cities to smaller ones. Therefore, there aren't many people heading towards major cities (such as Beijing, Shanghai, and provincial capitals like Xi'an) during the Chinese New Year. The number of people returning to big cities increases after the holiday period ends. At that time, it becomes inconvenient to travel to major cities due to the large crowds.

the most important day of CNY is Feb 9, family must gather. no matter how difficult Most Chinese people will arrive their hometown before Feb 9th and back to the city they work after Feb 17 or late. it means that during Feb 9 to Feb 18. there are little people will leave their family and travel to other place. i think that's why you feel empty in the ariport.
@ROGER_L
@ROGER_L 5 месяцев назад
the reason why so feel no one because the peoples usually go back their home town 2 weeks before CNY. the time you are visiting is CNY New Year Eve so, basically all peoples are back to their home so, looks like empty (shenzhen, guangzhou, shanghai same situation) but after 5th of CNY, peoples going back to their work position so, the manflow getting crowd and crowd.
