Interviews by 3 MTV programs, with George Harrison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, they are talkin about the death of Roy Orbison, in the backstage of the music video of End Of The Line, Bob Dylan didnt made an interview, enjoy and comment!
I miss you imensely Roy, George, and now Tom...tragic really. Beautiful , beautiful souls, who wrote songs from a real place . It just feels right to hear a Wilbury tune..your music is timeless and shines on.
This group was awesome, an epic effort from George Harrison to put together a band from the greatest in rock history. RIP George, Tom and Roy. The music world has suffered a heavy loss.
These guys were absolutely terrific in all phases of their music. They really enjoyed each other's company and respected each other's individual talents. Roy Orbison's voice has to be one of the greatest voices of all time.
Charles, I couldn't have said it better. I'm just glad we have these videos to watch and remember this great group of guys who made such wonderful music together.
"George got all mystical on us once again!" ...I suspect a lot is mystifying to that airhead MTV host. Respect to George who lived a beautiful and profound life.
@Lawrance Ovarabia He died of smoking-related lung, brain and throat cancer. There are also the factors involved rather than just smoking. There are other risk factors as well as smoking, such as exposure to asbestos and air pollution. It looks to me as if you are also uneducated.
George Harrison- "We just wanted to be simple and write a few tunes and do a record" and Jeff Lynne is so subtle in his immediate tag, "and sell millions of 'em." Hilarious... 1:40
Hahaha its so funny that Tom gets up and gets an apple right in the middle of an interview ... He's like I got a date... And the munchies can't wait haha classic
The lyrical genius of Dylan, brilliant practical guitar work by Harrison, proffesional production techniques of Jeff Lynn, and the comedic musical icon of Tom Petty. Melting pot of great music man
"Life flows on Within you and Without You" was also a chorus George sang in his "mystical" psychedelic standard, "Within You, Without You" in The Beatles' 1967 masterpiece album, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". "End Of The Line" is one of the best folk-rock standards performed by The Traveling Wilburys. Superb harmonies and a steady beat. R.I.P. Roy and George.. Forever loved and missed.. We'll all meet again in the Spirit World.
I have just been watching Roy Orbison's life story, I have read many tragic stories, and non more so than what this guy had to endure, he lost his wife in a motorbike accident, He also lost two boys in a house fire,Yet he drove on, and through all that pain and sadness, He just got bigger and bigger, I have to mention Jeff Lynne of ELO. He is a music icon in his own right, But Like Roy himself, Jeff is as down to earth as bob next door, he witnessed A concert in the 60's when Roy was touring England with the Beatles, But Roy was not the support act, The Beatles, were. And Jeff recalled John Lennon remarking Hurry up Yank !. Well said Jeff Lynne, I know Roy Orbison hears your every word.
All I can say is I truly love the levity of this clip! And how I get teary-eyed whenever I listen to this group, especially with Roy singing lead vocals.
The Beatles' long-time publicist Tony Barrow, who knew all four members of the band very well, wrote in his book that he had no idea why George was called "the quiet Beatle" -- he said he always thought George had a lot to say for himself. I suspect that was the work of the New York media on the band's famous first visit to the US, when George spent a lot of the time in a hotel bedroom, sick with the flu, while the other three went on a camera shoot. He was still a bit under the weather for the rest of the tour, but if you watch press conferences throughout their career, George is as involved as the rest of them.
I'm British a I would like to say you never appreciated that man's brilliance best vocalist ever his vocal range was immense even elvis idolised this guy .rip Roy one of the best.
This is an awesome interview. I was right young when it came out.4yrs old to be exact! What's up with the apples though? Is that all MTV could manage at the time? A super young Kurt Loader!Wow!
Thanks.. Love seein the guys here but it reeeallly reminded me of what tools most of the MTV news guys were.. the pretentious snooting grated the nerves.
Funny how, while George is talking about astral body Tom is casually biting on a pear. Then, at some other point in the interview (not in this clip) George goes quiet, Tom starts talking, taking George by surprise. (George was deep in thought and he had forgotten that Tom was sitting next to him ...really funny to watch.)
I was driving on Jarred White Blvd, Honolulu, and at the lights at Salt Lake Blvd, the DJ from KPOI FM interrupted to say that Roy Orbison had passed away. I was devastated and had to pull over. for a few minutes.
The interviewer dismissing George's lovely words about his belief that Roy's spirit was still with them as nothing more than "George getting mystical" was quite rude honestly.
R.I.P. We were having great fun until you came here with an interview We were having great fun until you came here with an interview
Seems like Jeff was almost sitting on George's lap haha. I'm sure whoever put on the interview needed them sitting as close together as possible, but still funny to me.
Shit that would takes months lol to be honest though I probably would too. Greatest band ever formed.. If only they had Neil Young in there some how it would be the highlight of all written history ever! But it was as close as it gets to true perfection. So glad I discovered them in my lifetime!
God bless George Harrison, he had a strong spirit, & he was so reassuring. I miss his spiritual reassurances. It might be mystical to some, but it's a strong faith that he subscribed to, if only we had the peace that George felt in his faith. His last words were for all of us to know the Lord. I say, Amen!
wish they could have put more spotlight on tom not fair I think he wanted more attention he needed it I get the other guys talking because they aren't as popular as tom is but he deserved/needed some of that he's an important member of the band who happens to be the hottest in my opinion. Lol in my opinion he is the saddest loss of all of them but I'm thankful though that they have all left this fallen world and are finally saved!! :) Xo
Alexandra Miller Tom really didn't need all the attention lol although it was a tie between him n Greorgd being the fav in the group Tom got enough attention fronting his own band the heart breakers
