Best crawler in the market! Even after 3 years of it being out! Had my trx4 defender for 2 years no drivetrain issues spot on! I will never buy another crawler
Getting the all black one this week! It's putting a lot of excitement into this 57 year old who rarely gets excited anymore lol. Can't wait to get it. The dealer is changing the battery plug and selling me spectrum batteries and a smart charger! I'm not new to r/c but I haven't bought or done anything since 2001. Amazing how everything changed
Love this truck. It crawls up anything and has some great clearance. The body is heavy but to me the higher center of gravity it doesn’t seem to matter. The frame’s built in wheel wells keeps everything clean, even with muse and snow. Adjusted the shock springs so it lifts the body enough to prevent most body rubbing. Got the Traxxas light kit and it makes it look awesome. Put a much stronger servo and I ordered a BEC to give it the 8.4 volts the servo wants. The two speed transmission, multiple crawling/driving modes. The auto braking works great and the locking differentials add some fun by letting you attack completely different lines and wiggle out of them. The speed modulation can’t be beaten. I put a bike rack on the tailgate and it doesn’t rub if I chose the right line. Love love love this truck. If you can afford it it maybe the best car to drive around your yard because it has multiple speed modes and won’t turn over when it goes over hidden rocks. It’s good with small dogs because it’s big enough to keep them from jumping on it but slow enough not to run them over. It has cruise control and I like to find the perfect crawling speed and lock it in and see how well I climb without having to manage the throttle.
@@RCReviewChannel planning on a kit either way. I have been wanting a flysky gt5 to use on my other rigs and this would be a good choice. And I'd like to go brushless off the bat.
Trust me if you're just now taking a look at these or you're new to this that video he put out does make you feel like the emo might be a better buy but as a TRX for owner I'm telling you right now once you own a trx4 you'll change your mind especially once you put an 8 turn in it from holmes hobbies. get the crawl Master 550. Tht emo wouldn't be able to handle that motor like a trx4. What he didn't tell h about is how ungodly stout and durable the trx4 is. I comp mine and treat it like I hate it
Thanks for all the videos, you got me into rc!!! In my opinion at $399. the TRX4 Merc 4x4 is by far the best TRX4. It is the lowest price (reason I initially bought it), is the best performer with fantastic approach and departure angles. It's the only truly scale TRX4 because the Mercedes actually comes with portal axles. The look has really grown on me. I was going to get a Blazer body but they are never in stock. I got a black Mercedes body instead. With mods it's crazy seeing the big body do amazing lines.
Great video as always Frances, love your channel!! my opinion on a 2 speed transmission is there ok if you can't swing brushless, but if one can afford Brushless 2 speeds got to go asap. 2 speed amounts to many manyl extra parts to break down a good amount of un-needed weight & space & most importantly in the end it'll never have the low end & top speed of a quality brushless geared correctly 👍🏼
Oh yeah they work! I love them in my TRX4 for the scale/trail aspect. Yes, more parts to potentially fail, but that comes with almost all upgrades. It's about what you want.
@@RCReviewChannel I've been running my TRX4 Bronco for close to 70 hours and haven't really had to replace any of the micro servo's or shifting parts. I'm usually pretty hard on them.
Ya I have close to that many hours also. Ran it all summer on many trail runs. Still running stock electronics with no issues yet. Do plan to upgrade eventually but haven't needed to at this point.
@@1Almightydeez The TF2 was in impulse buy cause I used to own an 84 Toyota. I like it and all , just too timid for my neighborhood in the nor Cal foothills. Got the metal interior coming, gonna take my time with the upgrades and treat it like a shelfie. 😌✌️👍
I just subbed. Really digging you honest in-depth reviews. I have 1/24 and 1/12 crawlers, so looking to get my first 1/10 scale crawler and that Traxxas TRX4 Chevy Blazer K5 is hard to ignore. There's of course also the SCX10 III, which is a newer machine. The Chevy Blazer K5 just looks so good. Would you recommend it even though it's 3 years old now? Thanks
Great video ! like always : Quick question I got a killerbody LC 70 land Cruiser coming in since you happen to have a few which chassis do you recommend thanks in advance
I have the TRX4 79 Bronco and the Vanquish Phoenix. Although I love the capabilities of the Vanquish, I love driving my TRX4. So fun and remains my favorite even with the stock electronics. I don't need to overthink it. I just drive the snot out of it.
You've made me see the light. Now I realize I made no mistake fetching that k5 black blazer to match my ranger body. I've gained experience with body RC body work and how to remove minor scratches with a mini torch lighter. One mistake and it's all over, It requires very controlled, well timed movements. Ever notice things are getting harder to get?
Been awaiting the K5 , TRX4 , is the K5 Blazer body able to fit on the TRX4 defender frame assembly OR is it a completely different beast ? Ty. Cheers 🥂great job, and thank you for sharing. Be safe Everyone an RC on !! 😎
Brand new to RC. Going to order a TRX4 Blazer tonight. What 3S batteries and charger would you recommend for this truck? I'd like to order everything I'll need. Thanks!
while amazed when you chose the emo as best value for money, i appreciate that you like the TRX-4 and can remain unbiased 👍 That said, lowest overall cost includes long term durability and the TRX-4 has proven itself mechanically. In life, the cheapest option is rarely the best one and ends up costing more. If it means saving $ a few more months for quality (and upgraded electronics 😅), i will. Thanks Francis
Long-term-durability... there's no way to test that reliably unfortunately when I have to evaluate 4 vehicles. For the Cross RC Emo value, what played a part were $430 RTR price, Steel beadlocks with weights and good tires. LED light boards included, 2-speed, front and rear lockers, scale body with great details, portal axles. Everything worked the first few runs. The TRX4, the vehicle is amazing. But the 3 servos, the ESC and the radio have very poor reliability. The SCX10.3 is just a mess with missing servo/channel and a shift servo that goes up in smoke.
@@RCReviewChannel i have to agree with you. my Sport Kit is running zero traxxas electronics with aftermarket beadlocks and tires (products from your reviews btw). the Cross RC package is nice with those wheels and tires stock. Maybe i feel guilty for thinking about buying one haha ~ i blame you bro! Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. Your channel is the BEST, your commentary entertaining and refreshing ✌️
hey rc review are body posts a cost cutting thing ? I just wander why manufactures still think we dont mind them when there are so many other options for attaching a body
When talking about the 2 speed transmission, you are calling the brushless motor "not normal " , does it mean having a brushless system makes the use of a 2 speed transmission obsolete? Thanks!
Hi Friend. I have a question. My wife wants to buy me a Defender TRX4 for my next birthday and i see you have a lot experience with this model 1 - I can install the Hobbywing 1080 in this model? 2 - I can use the Tamiya Battery Life packs in it using the adapters?. I have 6 of them, with the charger and very happy specially with the safety. I can use it in the TRX4? Thank you in advance
Unrelated to this specific test. But I've not seen any reviews from you for any of the military style trucks - king kong CA30 6x6, cross rc 6X6 or 8X8. these certainly are not your typical crawler but they are pretty cool as a trail truck
Can someone recommend crawlers to me, please? However, I'm not sure about the "df-4s" and the "reely free men" it should cost 170-300 euros. I'm happy to hear some answers, dear regards :)
i am looking to get into buying a crawler truck for trails and some rock crawling. i like this blazer and redcat gen 8 which is in my budget. is the extra money for the blazer worth it in long run or is there a better truck for $300.00
I wish I can afford these things. Would buy me one and modify it. Run it and enjoy it before buying another. This one is good enough. To run and have fun with. Make changes and add more stuff on it.
I am trying to choose my first 1/10 Crawler and I narrow it down to the TRX4. I am not sure which model though. Mercedes, Bronco, Defender, Sport or Blazer? Any suggestion or more insight on this regard would be highly appreciate it. Thanks!
In my family we have a blazer a defender and a trx6 they are all awesome rigs but the blazer is my favorite it crawls like a beast and looks as real as it gets ,doing it. Mine is still stock but it’s amazing I just stiffen the spring set in the rear and allow more flexibility in the front. Can’t go wrong. The other 2 are awesome as well the defender is definitely more of a trail truck and crawls awesome as well but the body is super heavy which isn’t great for technical crawls and the trx6 is well it’s just a beast but if you’re not into the 6 wheeler my pick will always be the blazer!
Yeah those bodies are insanely expensive brother. I only found one for under $100 bucks lol. I got it on my Arrma Granite mega v3 brushless sleeper truck which is a absolute beast. Not a crawler but it actually can do it lol and better then my Trx4 prob because of the huge Super swampers 2.8s 😂. And the 4076 2200kv motor sitting in it. But I don't really do that with it it's more a basher / speed truck. I also got that Vaterra C10 body which was $70 bucks I really like it. But I can't find another blazer body cheaper.. they are nice but c'mon they ain't worth it lol. And I bought a Gen8 with the hobby wing brushless motor off of ammin hobby it was lil over $500 bucks can't wait for it to show up deff gonna be nice
Just curious why u r reviewing what is essentially a 3 yr old car? I get that it still competes with the best out there but nothing has changed in the vehicle other than the paint scheme. I enjoyed the vid don't get me wrong, but just struggle to see the relevance. Cheers.
It's in reference to the new portal, 2-speed chevy shootout we're doing this week. We're trying to give context if folks want to dig deeper in the shootout.
It's funny how Axial isn't even on anyone's top list anymore. Obviously they are not the same company anymore, horizon doesn't seem to have the love and innovation Axial once had. Its unfortunate but Axial will soon be forgotten as the greatest crawler/scaler manufacturer around.
Almost $1100 in Australia my work car only cost me $1800 but if it lasts as long and is as much fun to drive as my 5 speed Mazda 2 it will be well worth it
@@runnerbaba i use my stock gts shock and i have modded them i am getting over 4” of flex with all wheels planted running the inner fender with the fender extensions as well but the shock hes using look almost like the long travel shocks
Traxxas is the "company that started it all" in RC crawling??? Axial has "come to the scene"? Were you born in 2018? LOL. Seems to me I was crawling with a good variety of well-designed, capable vehicles from a number of brands, long before this newcomer showed up.
