Really nice video. With you 100% on running this truck as close to scale as possible and not trying to beat it to death. Just got one that had the light kit installed at the factory. Gonna run it on 4S. Waiting for a break in the weather for now. This looks fast sitting still. Thanks for your common sense approach and excellent content. New sub.
Well Bulletproof I am 100% with you on scale speeds excessive jumps and then crying about them breaking, I ran only 5th scale gas until I bought the UDR, I try to make my 5th scale as realistic as possible and do not go for maximum speeds more about handling and looking scale while doing it, so many times I have compared their jumps to throwing a 1:1 Raptor over the Grand Canyon and then driving home and to work the next day not happening, or hitting a concrete post at 35mph and not expecting any minor damage let alone terminal damage. I personally do not jump my vehicles over anything huge but I still drive them like I stole them, I am enjoying the UDR am running 6S at the moment but will be getting a 4S to run as it is far to hairy on 6S and actually spoils the enjoyment. I am going to put a Spektrum AVC receiver to BIND it to my Spektrum DX6R but also want telemetry so torn to leaving the stock receiver to use the telemetry app and putting it on my Kindle and iPhone. Hey I am spoilt it has reverse and a lot lighter than my 5th scales they are between 30 and 50lb, and will never be able to get them to the scale look of the UDR, and was tempted by the LOSI but liked the more scale look, but being bigger nearly won the day. So nice to hear a like minded fellow RC'er who is also enjoying this great Truck, I have even started colouring and highlighting the scale parts, shock rezzies, extinguisher's, jack and handle, radiator oil bottles and even thinking of doing a better job of the interior. I have subscribed and hit the bell and liked stumbled over your video looking for any issues to look out for as not able to get much run time due to it being very wet at the moment.
I totally agree I see so many videos of some taking a super rock Rey or a udr and trying to launch them insane distances and then complain when one thing breaks. I heard nothing but bad things about the yeti but I never break anything on mine because I drive it scale, I got it used and geared it down right away lol.
This is the best overview I have seen. I completely agree with you. 6s is great but 4s for general driving is just fine. And 10 foot jumps are unnecessary. I have a maxx for that.
Oh Yea Keith! Your right. I was thinking the same thing! Looks even more scale a little dirty! I’m going to start on 4S and enjoy the scale feel. Thanks for all your feedback! Sounds like you’re having a blast with it I’m super excited to start driving mine!
Excellent, excellent video! And that's my perspective as well, drive it with real SCALE in mind and the vehicle will have some good longevity. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
the scale look is awesome and i am with you- i don't care for -bashing and thrashing - im from the vintage rc days of racing-im very interested in getting this truck- and i think you've helped me on a few things i needed to know- great job=thanks for a great vid.
I couldn't agree with u more on you're statements about the udr. I've used it for about 6 hours now and still on the stock servo. I've tried 6s but much prefer 4s. Great video
Great review I too am excessive when it comes to keeping the rc rigs clean after running. A lot of money goes into these rigs. I like to keep them tip top also :-)
Great review buddy! Yeah I 🤔 this truck is more true to scale like how you like it. not much of a launcher or a big jumper. I have only jumped this truck a few times. Just got done with speed runs. I will tell you it’s jumping limit😎
I honestly love it it’s the best RC you can get for the money people who say that it’s weak it’s because they drive it like dicks it’s called a desert racer for a reason hope you have fun with yours if you do get it
I am in absolute agreement with you on scale driving and the benefits of using 4s with the udr. I don't bother watching you tube videos of scale r/cs being slowly and deliberately destroyed but to each his/her own.
Just remembered one other reason why I was writing to you, check the diffs, cant remember who posted the video but he pulled his down and found fine dust in all three housings, so I am pulling mine down and using a silicone sealant to try and keep the dust out and stop excessive wear, as it will be like running them in course valve grinding paste, they wont last long I did think they would be a perfect seal like all my fifth scale trucks and buggies, not just the diff case's. I will upping the fluid in the front diff maybe the centre. Also found some blue springs same colour as King shocks, just trying to find out if they are a different tension.
Nick Ing dazed & confused Yeah that was Chris Licatta with Everyday RC. He and I are good friends. The center doesn’t really get dirt inside but the front and rear do. The rear primarily. It looks like dirt gets sucked into the rear axle shaft tubes strangely. I think the planetary reduction drive creates some sort of vacuum when turning. I filled the rear shafts with waterproof grease in efforts to try to seal it. The good news is it’s pretty easy to access the rear end after each run to inspect it.
Complex yes but, everything you need to know is in the expanded online owners manual and exploded view manual. I have taken mine completely apart and lubed the front and rear differentials and transmission. . It’s not difficult
Great video! So nice to see someone use it correctly and not bash the crap out of it on 10 foot jumps and wonder why it's broken. I have a slash at the moment and I'm going to hand it down to my little boy, then I'll get a udr.
Great video!! No crazy music just good info!! Simple green is the best I agree 100% I've been using that in my rc fleet for 20 years!! Question for you are the tires sufficient for the truck or does it need upgraded tires? I have one on order and just wanted to get better traction tires ahead of time.
joseph welch The tires are hard but work on this rig! Traxxas has this truck dialed! Plus i don’t think there are any other tire options available yet. This truck has a 17mm hex but uses a smaller nut on the outside
Bulletproof RC Ok awesome to know and thank you for the quick reply!! What would you recomend on lipo's would you go single 6s or dual 3s and would a higher "C" rating be preferable?
Mohamad Hasan No, that is the way a real Trophy Truck is designed. The rear driveshaft compresses with the suspension so it really doesn’t hit anything other than maybe a stray rock here and there. Plus the shaft is metal so it’s pretty tough.
I'm seriously thinking of getting something Traxxas eventually. Really like the bashability factor and parts support. That truck even looks better dirty. Surprised no shock boots. Yes Simple Green works well. Jang would agree.
So do I. Seriously I was thinking you and him could team up and do a review and follow-up review. Where he does his usual vehicle introduction and durability montage. You could be the guy to strengthen the weak points. Heh.
Seriously? Yes a lot of people at the track have been rude I'll say here in Illinois. Yes I saw a part of one of his videos. I used to like Legos when I was younger, but appreciating RC still. I've taken a short hiatus to build a quadcopter, but still have one vehicle(TLR SCTE 2.0) I'd like to keep running. The HPI Pulse 4.6 burned me on parts support, so I was upset about that but understand they went through Chapter 11 and restructuring. That makes Traxxas all the more appealing. My understanding was that Jang could not find a place to RC in California due to rangers patroling random places and NorCal hobbies moving far away. What a loss. Been praying he makes a comeback someday but you've done a good job taking his place in many ways. Really appreciate your content. Thank-you.
Joe DeJohn The SCTE 2.0 is a fantastic rig! Hard to go wrong with Traxxas. Like you said, fantastic parts support. Man, that might be the best compliment I’ve ever received! Jang’s URC was and still is the one of best RC channels in history
Mat K Thank you sir for watching and commenting friend. Here is a link to pictures. cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rctech.net-vbulletin/720x600/80-2xqpvf97_7946337ddc35d052b54d084bd57ec81c2ea3dd31.png
Couldn't agree with you more I also take care of my rc,s I don't do nothing crazy don't care what everyone else does as long as I enjoy it that's all that matters
So why the traxxas over the losi super baja rey? I have been going back and forth between the two. I have the 1/10 losi baja rey now.... and pretty happy with it.
scebird78 Rc is about having fun. I had the 1/10 Baja Rey too. It’s great but not in the same league. You need to drive one to understand. Traxxas put in some serious R and D here! Unfortunately Losi just upscaled the Baja Rey so it’s not really different enough for me to want since I’ve owned the 1/10 Rey. But who knows. I may get one eventually
I noticed that also with the losi (it just being up sized) Had to but some money in to the 1/10 to get the scale and performance out of it. Looks like the UDR might have a spot next to my XMAXX.... keep up the great work
I had to go find the review for a moment. Your points about the batteries is mirroring Big Squid's review. www.bigsquidrc.com/traxxas-unlimited-desert-racer-review/ tldr: "Power: Ya, so about that big brushless system. We found that driving the UDR on 4S was optimal. Why? Because it looked the most realistic that way, and its suspension was getting pushed pretty hard on 4S power/speeds. Yes, when we popped in 6S the truck felt ballistic, but it quickly overpowered its suspension resulting in more crashes." Yes they tried 6s and had fun but...
EvHexRC 1 Not exactly sure what you are inferring here.. this is a scale truck, not a basher. It’s not gonna last long on 6s unless you install a smaller pinion. If I wanted a 6s basher I’d buy another monster truck or truggy. But hey if you want to spend $800 on one of these and destroy it be my guest. I just value my hard earned investment more than that.
Scale doesn't mean it's automatically a crawler I consider my yeti a scale RC because of the accessories and details and driver and solid axle king of the hammers style.
John Stevens I was basing calculations off of 1/10 scale which is much easier to calculate. Obviously 30mph for 1/10 scale is 300mph. How did you calculate 1/7 scale speeds? I know 1/7 of a mile is 754.2856992 feet. So it would be how fast it reaches 754.2856992 feet in one hour. Correct?
John Stevens Well, looks like there is a lot of opinions on the matter of scale speed. Both of us weren’t wrong, just calculating different. Take a look at this link. www.alphalanding.com/rc-track/scaling-speed-what-is-the-correct-scale-speed-of-110-rc-car/
