I've seen these all throughout my childhood being sold as over the counter toys, I remember having one that was a construction dump truck that had a pull back action, and a robot mantis. I think the Transformers ones were mainly done by Kabaya that included chewing gum.
These trinket toys are some of my fave things to collect, always throw some into my Japanese proxy shopping basket. Good to see them getting some love. These are particularly awesome, grab yourself some Sofubi next!
Oh Gavin thanks rof reviewing this! Yes they're small and amazing. I don't know if they originally came with a piece of gum or not, since usually this level of mini model kit came with a piece of gum or candy/sweets. In Bandai, this might count as "candy toy" or "shokugan".
Oh heck Gavin, do a Gundam review if you have some kicking around. There's plenty of Gundam reviewers on youtube, but none of them do it quick! "Yeah alright I'll just grab a drink and settle into this 40 minute model kit review without skipping to the good parts" I have never once said in my life.
I want these, I want that Lio one... I want I want. Also enjoyed the quote, I know it's from a film but makes me think of the Infinite Review podcast which I'm sure we can all agree is much better and relevant to the world as a whole.
I just got these in the mail today. Very fun little kits! Apache is adorable with the only partsforming being flipping his feet for robot mode, while Megastorm looks amazing, and unlike Apache, his stickers stay on really well. These ones also have a very different aesthetic from the more SD Gundam-like Beast Change Kits, like Lioconvoy, Galvatron, Big Convoy, and Gigatron. There's even a clear variant of Lioconvoy & Galvatron that comes in a 2-pack as well.
I wish the mainline would have created a mandrill baboon character. They are just such badass looking animals and would make for a great transformer. Why don’t I have a job at Hasbro? 🤔
I remember seeing these on ebay years ago. They're neat, but so lazy. They didn't want to use more than two colours for both, so we get Apache with green and Megatron with blue. Course you can always paint them.
Where can I get these and what others exist? Are there other transforming transformers plamo kits? I was a kid who loved transformers turned adult who fell down the gunpla rabbit hole. I need this.
