I was diagnosed with mild non-alcoholic fatty liver disease about 10 years ago at age 58 when I had an ultrasound due to some abdominal pain. I could not understand it because I have always maintained my weight, had a fairly health diet, exercise, don’t drink, etc.. my doctor told me not to worry about it, that it was a benign condition that would probably never bother me. It really bugged me though so after a couple of years I started googling and saw where one site said oral hormone replacement therapy can cause this. So I started using the bio identical creams instead and had another ultrasound two years later and no more fatty liver! That really is the only change I can think of that I made. Also, when the doctor in this video said a woman’s ALT should not be above 25 I looked up my old values. In Jan 2012 mine was 29 - in July of this year it is down to 16! Just wanted to give you ladies a heads-up on the oral HRT - not good for your liver!

I went for an office visit last week, and the doctor decided to do a physical. It was 2pm and sends me to the lab right in the same area. I told the doctor but I didn’t fast. He said it’s not necessary anymore. Sure enough, my a1c was up and liver enzymes were up twice, 70-80. I was pissed Then he sends me for an ultrasound for the liver. I didn’t get the report yet. I am currently doing low carb and walking. I had tests done 2 years ago for gallbladder. The liver and pancreas were good, HIDA test. I’m taking another blood test in the future with fasting and continue exercise and low carb. Pissed at this Doctor, and I just changed from another beauty!

@Robp, why are you pissed the the doctor for finding elevated levels? A1C is an average blood sugar level over the past 3 months in the cells and isn't impacted by fasting or a bad meal the night before. If your A1C is elevated then over the last 3 months, your glucose has been elevated. No need to fast for a non fasting test. Maybe that's why your docotor ordered that Now maybe you could ve pissed if it was normal as A1C is more expensive than fasting glucose but given your elevated levels, you were likely to need this after an elevated fasting test.
@Rob_430
@Rob_430 Год назад
@@seanet1310 yes, A1C is over past 3 months, but it’s fasting for the other tests. Besides, 3 months after,went back for more lab work, my numbers were all normal……….fasting, walking and cut out sugar, plus lost 15 lbs.

I did Weight Watchers for many years and kept a healthy weight from 1995 to 2005. In 2005 I got diabetes during pregnancy and after that have not been able to achieve a healthy weight again. I am also sedentary due to severe arthritis, but exercise regularly in a swimming pool and continue to eat what most people consider a healthy diet. I have avoided sugared sodas and juices since age 18 as well as baked goods. Irregardless, I have developed a fatty liver and developed type II diabetes in 2016. So I believe the Weight Watchers diet contributed to my fatty liver. Healthy fats like nuts and avocados were so strongly discouraged. I am looking forward to starting in a bariatric clinic at University of Washington in two weeks.

Have you looked at the low carb diet options that are used to treat diabetes and fatty liver before going down the route of surgery. There are several variations of low carb diets that offer different options. Finally, check out intermittent fasting. My ALT is currently 28 (truly normal for a male) but it was in the 50's 60's and 70's for multiple years. Ketogenic is not an 70% fat diet. Not even close. Trying to eat 70% of your meals in fat would be very difficult to the point that the vast majority of peoples could not even attempt it. Now eating 70% of your foods that contain fat such as fish, eggs, nuts, avocados, beef and so on is not the same thing as those foods do not have a majority of fat. An egg for example has 9 grams of fat per 100 grams. An Avocado has 15 grams per 100 grams.

The first night while I was waiting for my pack, I just put castor oil over the liver when I slept and I had a great bowl movement the next day. After I got my pack, l learned i could take one TBSP of castor oil by mouth with warm water and that made my bowels feel like they’re getting completely eliminated. I’m on Day three of that and the article I read said it would take three days to completely eliminate. One thing I’ve learned is the liver is responsible for good BM. I’ve always felt I was constipated and now I know that implies my liver has been stressed even when I wasn’t overweight.

After doing nutrient deficiency tests and trying out lots of different "ways of eating" such a whole30, paleo, autoimmune paleo, keto, DASH, vegan, etc., there is NOT ONE diet that provides ALL your nutrients. These are all N of 1 experiments that I highly encourage you to explore to see what works best for your individual biology. You can track everything using cronometer or other nutritional apps to see where you fall short. A high quality multivitamin is like an insurance policy. I find most people and foods are very deficient in minerals (micro/macro). NAC is a precursor to glutathione which is your body's master antioxidant. NAC has to be converted to glutathione and then recycled or excreted depending upon a lot of factors in your body. Your liver conjugates fat soluble toxins (phase 1) into water soluble (phase 2) and genetics can play a large role in how your process (fast, intermediate, slow). I personally take r-lipoic, sulphorophane, and milk thistle and b's, and fish oil. I will do nutrient deficiency tests annually with my doctor to check status. Think of it like a tuneup for your car. You take your car in to have oil changes, etc. Well, nutrition is the gas in your car. If you are deficient in certain nutrients, your body can't perform all the functions it needs to perform. Your body gives you whispers. It's our job to listen and try to decipher. Your body works so hard for you and if you continue to treat it poorly, then it will figure out ways to keep going until it just can't. That is when dis-ease happens.

At 34:30 you talk at great lengths about the dangers of fructose and you recommend people to check labels and avoid foods containing fructose. This is great. Your slide clearly shows that sugar (i.e. sucrose) is a disaccharide consisting of glucose & fructose and this is also very good information. Unfortunately, you then go on to talk about sugar and fructose as if they are two different things. Practically speaking, they are not. I think that the vast majority of people watching your presentation will come away thinking that fructose is bad but that sugar might not be so bad, when in fact every food with sugar (sucrose) in it also contains fructose. I like your message, but I think you really should drive home the message that avoiding fructose requires avoiding sugar and that most processed foods contain sugar. Most people are blissfully unaware of how much sugar is contained in processed foods, including things like salad dressings, ketchup, etc.

27:07 Is this actually from weight loss or is it because bariatric surgery forces the body into a fast, drastically reduces dietary carbohydrate intake, affects insulin levels, etc; all results that can be accomplished by diet alone. It's important to find the BEST solution with the fewest negative consequences imo. Removing the stomach from the body is an irreversible surgical procedure with permanent physical consequences and drastic long term side effects. I sometimes wonder if bariatric surgery is the new hysterectomy. It's interesting too that bariatric surgeons put their patients on a keto diet two weeks before surgery to shrink the liver, and if the surgery eventually fails puts them on a low carb diet for life. So some of them end up with a keto or low carb diet without the benefits of a stomach... There's lots of anecdotal evidence that intermittent fasting and zero processed carbs has been very successful to reduce inflammation and halt the progress of liver disease as well as fat loss. Yes, we need more studies but in the meantime I think the rush to slice and dice is problematic, for it's irreversibility if nothing else.

According to the calculator the units should be grams per liter (g/l), but I suspect the number you entered had units of grams per deciliter. I say this because I'm looking at a lab report from Quest Diagnostics and they report Albumin as grams per deciliter (g/dL). A value of 3.5 g/L would have been way out of range, and clearly not normal. If you enter this guy's data into the calculator but use 35 g/L as the Albumin value, you get back 0.144 as his score, which is indeterminate.

Just lose weight and get exercise. No medication and you will never get a transplant. So I was terrified of every bite of food that I put in my mouth. I was not provided a nutritionist. Unbelievable

I would suggest you find a liver specialist that also practices integrated medicine or functional medicine. There are practices out there that can do this for you. It is best that you try and get a full health screening to look at your hormone levels, thyroid and to see if you are diabetic through such things as insulin resistance. Also try and look at what your daily calories are but do not do anything drastic until have sought medical advice. You may need to increase muscle mass or a host of other things but at this stage seek the advice to guide you through the process. Good luck.

Just to give you have idea of exercise you could be doing as a routine walking, sit down training with weights to build strength and an exercise bike for short little routines. The key to exercise is to make progress when you are starting out not to actually make your self sore or push too hard. Around the 24min mark there are tools that take platelets and help calculate the likely presence of F3/4 Fibrosis. What is the relationship between platelet count and fibrosis and does anyone know how that applies to normally high or low platelet count people?
@bighands69
@bighands69 Год назад
it is a statistical model and not really a diagnostic tool. It really should be used to show if you are on the right pathway. You can have platelet loss or gain for a multitude of reasons. Anemia or liver disease can cause a loss of platelets. Too many platelets can be a sign of other conditions such as liver inflammation.

In 98% of those videos it was recommended to eat a diet containing more fat and Far less sugar and far less highly refined carbohydrates- almost opposite what this doctor says. The doctors I watched all had years of experience working with patients and most of them had done extensive research on nutrition. There is something strange indeed going on here.
