I came to the conclusion last winter/spring that camping on melting snow was a bit messy and could quickly become a wet or muddy experience so I built this Tipifort to keep me off the ground. It's definitely solved the problem and I get the added experience of swaying softly in the trees as I sleep on windy nights.

I live in the south of Brazil in the state of Santa Catarina and even though we have a cold winter in the months of June and July, I can't imagine how it is possible to live in the middle of the cold as in your country !! You are very resistant my friends !! Congratulations on the beautiful work you are doing and transforming your lives for the better! Hugs from Brazil !!!!

Unless you've ever actually camped out in the dead of winter, you will never fully appreciate the silence, the calm, and the strange comfort of being alone - away from any other human voice - and using your skills and experience to blend in and visit with Mother Nature Better than any spa day...ever!

haha, better for the mind but a day at the spa getting a massage would have been darn good after I was finished building this platform.

@@TrustinTimber yeaaa...I'm inclined to agree - thawing out and feeling the pain you couldn't feel while literally frozen has gotta hurt! Consider a standing appointment at Massage Envy after a wild weekend playing "Survivor Dude"...😎👌 Cheers!

Just a suggestion... since you are removing your pants anyway just roll them up and use them as a pillow. Your head keeps them warm enough to prevent freezing. Nice video. Enjoyed the build videos for the platform.

Mesmerizing as always; suspended mid-air, floating in space-time as snowflakes hurtle down, rising back up from the fire. Thanks for another immersion into winter wonderland. Most delightful ... and please forgive the bursts of joyful laughter ... almost entirely empathetic! Could someone identify what treetops were scribed with snow while others stayed green? ~Tina from Cali.
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 4 года назад
exploring life Hi Tina, Spruce trees have more condensed short needles so the snow gets stuck in there. The pine needles are longer and more spread out so the snow blows off sooner. Great observation.
@exploringlife738
@exploringlife738 4 года назад
@@TrustinTimber Well it was great photography that brought those spruce tops to light, so many thanks for that. :}
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 4 года назад
exploring life I was watching it again, it’s also sometimes happening in low spots where the wind doesn’t blow. In front of the tipi is a steep hill so the wind also doesn’t rustle those. Their is a variety of species there as well including cedar that holds snow. But definitely spruce holds more snow than pine.
@exploringlife738
@exploringlife738 4 года назад
@@TrustinTimber The end shot, where the tree/s above the oven area (?) seems to hold the snow in such a fine-cut pattern ... while the others are green around it ... was most striking. I'm glad you've explained about the landscape, that really helps to "read" the pattern of snow we saw, thanks. :}

Like the platform build, what seems to be missing in design is a way to insulate the floor and I think your next build needs to be a stove of some kind you can use In the tipi that was a cold night. A tip, you can put your clothes underneath you and boots too under your legs to keep them from freezing like they did. I did it in southern Asia where the weather was -35 degrees faranheit with wind chill and with your bag’s loft, it shouldn’t be uncomfortable!

Try putting the outer pants and boots in the bottom of the sleep bag. Body heat wil keep them warm and they will dry overnight
@TrustinTimber

Should get yourself a small wood stove for your teepee. Since its deployed on log based platform.

Hardly see anyone use hand warmers i enjoy them emmensely ....i like the charcoal handwarmers you can break them in half or quarters and light all the ends ....and possibky burn yourself ....however i sometines light both ends of one which are 5-6 inches long ....great for your sleeping bag or your boots and socks and miittens ....they come with a red flannel bag which slips over the actual metal case to keep tbe heat in and protect yourself if and when they get too hot ....and they can get very hot ...thats why i like them Keep your boots thawed out and warm ....if you light one end they last about 5 hrs ...

When I put on those boots I was thinking I might have to call it a short day but they warmed up pretty quick. They have Gortex so they were actually dry inside. Just the outer leather was frozen.

@@TrustinTimber Way back when I was in high school and x-country skied, we used to put polypropelene socks next to the skin, then wool socks. The poly socks wick the dampness away from your feet keeping them warmer. We didn't have gortex back then....sounds like an old man story, "when I was your age....".....lol
