Trees Devouring Things 

An interesting story I have is: One day when my mom and I was doing gardening in the backyard, we look over at the tree that stands in between some rocks and see that the leash that our dog and leashed up to is being eaten by the tree. When we first tied the leash around the tree it was nice and loose but then it became tight around the tree. So we decided to cut off the most leash we could off the tree and then we retied the leash around a fence post. So that’s my story about my tree growing over my dog’s leash.

Trees grow longer by primary growth at the tips and grow thicker and engulf things with secondary growth along the stem. The tree wouldn't lift the bike as it grew; it would have been hung up and left, to look like that.

Hi everyone, I’m a resident of Vashon Island, where the Bike in the Tree resides! This channel is correct in the theory given for how the bike was left there. However, we do know who left it! A young boy traveling home had left it there and moved away, leaving it to the woods. Well, when that little boy, now an adult, moved back with his own family, he discovered the tree with the bike still in it! Later, his son wrote a Christmas story about it!

It didn't really devour it, but one day I found a marble sitting on the branch of a Short-Leaf Pine. Pretty interesting considering the branch was at least four to five feet off the ground. And especially since it was on private property.

My family bought a house recently (to rent out) and it has a tree that has swallowed a telephone pole. It’s pretty cool.

My dad's a log truck driver and used to be a logger and even had a little sawmill for a while. One time, we were cutting boards and when we went to stack them, we noticed that there were bullets stuck inside and we had bisected them. We used to always find nails and barbed wire and stuff (which always ruined the chainsaw or sawmill blade) but the bullets were pretty cool and these trees were huge and had to have been pretty old (I'm guessing at least 100-200 years - they were cut in such a way you couldn't count the rings). I guess the bullets could have been from anytime the tree was big enough to not die from being shot, but I'm going to assume they were super old lol. I wish we could have gotten them out without cutting them in half but it was still a really neat find. People get pissed about logging, but my dad even calls himself an environmentalist - probably 90% of locations my dad logged were tree farms - trees planted specifically to harvest. The other 10% were probably like private property and the people were either going to re-plant or were trying to clear an area for a specific purpose. Even as a really old-fashioned logger, my dad doesn't like clear-cutting - especially when there's no re-planting. My grandpa (dad's dad) has planted probably well over a million trees in his life. He has hundreds of acres of what used to be fields that are now covered in every square inch with trees - mainly oak and pine.

this is the second time that Georgia (the state i live in) has been mentioned this channel, the other time was a darwin award for someone drowning in lake Sinclair which is not that far from me.

Well done 👍I was down Florida 10+yrs ago saw a bicycle engulfed by a fig strangler tree I think? Near home in SW Pa there's a old Russian Orthodox cemetery with a cross headstone inside. A chain or cable n barely recognizable old lantern remains. And on my property I've hammered a four med to lg fixed blade knives into trees near decade ago. I occasionally oil parts in hopes they'll long outlast me

About the signs... where I camp with my family there’s been a no hunting zone sign there for longer than my parents remember, and because it’s so old the tree grew onto it and now it says hunting zone.

I have one in my yard the tree grew through a chainlink fence although the tree died some time ago the part around the fence is still there.

By weird coincidence, yesterday I was just looking back a photo I took 8 years ago of Thomas Hardys grave in a tiny village in Dorset England where my great grandad, a stone Mason, buried Hardy's heart.

I saw a trees growing over a fence at the bus interchange where I grew up. I would take a picture but it was demolished.

Our plum tree devoured my iron skate. I left it in the tree between the trunk. The trunk grew over my skate. Sad thing is it eventually about thirty years later it let go of my skate before the tree died. I was sad. I love trees.

I had a hammock in my backyard a few years ago the hammock got taken down but the hooks stayed one is completely hidden in the tree and the other one sticks out a little bit

I saw a tree that had a knot in it. An actual knot. I suspect a miner tied knots in some trees to mark a path and one of the trees eventually grew into a large knot.
