Those encounters have stopped for some reason. I think with time you’ll build your own network and won’t hear them as often. It’s annoying still

Phoebe ist inzwischen eine "richtige" Deutsche und meckert wie wir alle auf hohem Niveau. Als Deutscher darf man einfach nie zufrieden sein. Und schon gar nicht mit Deutschland. Das wäre total "undeutsch"!

I am one of those old Germans, that ask these questions a lot. The first one ('Von wo kommen Sie?') usually gets them talk about specialties of the town the person comes from, the second one ('Wie lange sind Sie schon ...') leads to me praising their knowledge of German. And yes, I have been asked the same questions abroad as well (in the local language). Never minded it but rather considered it to be the start of an entertaining conversation. You ought to keep in mind, that a lot of what you experience is influenced by your expectations.

It’s so sad to hear Germany has detoriated so much over the years. Too many old people. Germany needs young fresh talent and a whole revamp. They are way behind the times now. Growing up in Dortmund trains were reliable, things were efficient but I was back in 2022 and was somewhat disappointed 😅

Yeah, things were better in the past. Still remember when I met my first African in our kitchen in the seventies (customer of my father). No mobile phone, no computers, no Twitter, Facebook or RTL. Factories in town were burning coal and some days a black layer covered the sheets on the clothes line. "Those were the days my friend, we thought, they'll never end ..." That certainly is a time to dream of going back to. My father had to work 6 days a week and women needed their husband's permission to work. Those certainly were the golden days ...

Maybe Germany can send their old people to other countries. So those countries can earn money from old ones by renting them apartments and sell food. And Germany has more apartments for the newcomers.
