trespassers on side by sides thought it was ok to trespass on land they didn't have permission to be on. They said they thought it was ok cause they didn't know it was private land
When I am given permission to cross or hike someone elses land, the next time I come back I always stop and see if its still OK and to chew the fat a little while. Its only right to take the time to talk with the landowner and thank him again for letting me use his land.
They buy these big things that are illegal on the roadways then they think they can ride them on private property. If they get hurt tearing up their property the owner is responsible! They have to keep them off their land. Besides they make mud holes tear up the Ginsing other things like berries roads they mow they turn into dangerous ruts and slopes of mud! They have no right but they think they do! It’s disgusting and they get mad!

Some years ago a person stopped by the house to have us take a tractor to extract them from our mountain land that was clearly marked no trespassing. Had them sign a release for damages and said we would tow them off the property. Wrapped a chain around the bumper put the tractor in gear and dragged them over the very rocky path as fast as the tractor ould go on that surface. They keep blowing the horn and hollering stop but the agreement was to tow them from the property. I am very sure repairs were required.

Then give them notice to vacate the property and have their off road vehicles off within 12 hours (verbal warning). After that 12 hours, tell them you're not responsible for what happens to their property
Put them on foot to walk back to bring law enforcement they their vehicles back. That would stop them from sucking eggs. If put up signs advising that there is a cost of admission on the property and the vehicles are forfeited until paid.

I lease land from a local college and the land actually joins my property. The college provided me with their own posted signs and I also put up posted signs I purchased as well. There are numerous access points other than the main gate at the front so trespassers do not have to use the main gate. I have leased that same land for over 10 yrs. now and everyone in this area knows I have it leased so I don't have much of a problem with trespassers. However, the few I have now are employees or contracted workers that work for a pipeline company and the power company. There is a pipeline right of way and a high line right of way going through the property. Thus far, everyone I have caught trespassing did not argue and left without any altercation. I try to be as polite as possible but I assure you, there is a visible firearm on my hip whenever I approach the trespasser. I would recommend that in all cases because you never know what kind of person/people you will be facing.
We deal with the same BS in TN. Listening to these people that say there is a decent road you paid for and developed gives them a right to be on just trips my trigger. Our they didn't know, or so and so said I could. I hunt on people's property and I'm fully capable to confirm my presence. In fact I get their name so the owner can thank them for looking out for the land and confirm that THEY should be there. Wink wink Maybe putting up pay as you go signs would cause them to think twice because they don't want to be thieves to be charged. The hassle of game cams might be worth it. What a hassle.
I'm a TN. hillbilly myself and IT'S a holes like you that ruin it for our children and grandchildren. I grew up where everyone was welcome,but seems nowadays nobody is. I let perfect strangers ride on my land and the respect me and are kind about it,but people like you are who adds fuel to the fire that's why you are not respected. I don’t care if people make a mistake on where property lines are because I’ve done the same but if someone lies or deliberately trespasses on my property I get pissed
In my experience, people who trespass also lie like a Persian rug. They come up with all kinds of lies. I have had them camp in a stand of marked trees and tell me they did not know it was private land.
Nobody should ride on anyone's property without permission. Before you buy a bike make sure you have a place to ride. Most people will let you ride on their property if you ask. They may have a certain area just for riding.

It frustrates me that they can't carry out what they bring in. No regard for anything anymore. The quad runners have become such a nuisance too. Now they go wherever they please. They tear up the land & cause erosion that over silts the waters now. Shameful.

If trespassing is an issue. Turn it into a business. Go with the flow and apply management skills to your advantage. Use a gated access with card issue and security cameras. You control where they go. Where they go the fee contributes to the maintainence of the road. Just an idea. The idea can be applied on numerous levels to suite you. If nothing else. Gate it! An open road is your control point.

This is an awesome idea. They will value the use more, they will treat it as if they partially own it to a degree, or at least they will value the "selective" right to use of the land due to their payment, and you will certainly find out HOW much people really like your land. You would definitely need to use cameras and signage to tell folks that you will take them to court for "theft & trespassing" if they enter without paying. No penalty means folks will just ignore the need to pay.
I perfect example of children that never grew up........nor will they ever grow up. Just with larger toys. When I see 30 year old acting.....or doing these things.....I always ask........ dont they have a " real " life ? Pathetic !
Happened to me last year in my Jeep.. driving down a road that was on my gps guy stopped me asked if I knew it was private property? I was like nope sure didn’t bit will leave right now. In my defense the road was on the gps, there was no gate or signs saying private property or road, the road was 6 miles long and connected to the main highway.. guy was real nice, said he had just bought all the land that included road. The road now has a gate and signs no trespassing. The land owners have the responsibility of the road is private to indicate that its private, a no trespassing sign on trees means that the land on that side of road is private..if there’s no gate no sign for private road then there is no way to know if it’s private or not.
You are right if there is no gate or signs then no one knows it's private property but my land has no trespassing signs everywhere and a gate but they go around the gate
I have many signs and I placed boulders in the lane. Boulders here are the universal sign that the lane/land is off limits. One guy hooked his truck up to a 6000 pound boulder and pulled it out of his way. I put the boulder back and built a massive berm in front of it. When they saw this they shot and beat the crap out of one of the signs. Some people just don’t want to be told that they can’t… I put up a sign that explains private property is at the foundation of our country, but I don’t expect the socialists to understand that.

I invite my neighbors to use my lanes and that is one reason that I closed them to vehicles, they get rutted and muddy. I have had the sheriff called on me for "ruining" my road. They litter, I guess in protest. The interesting thing is that with all of the B.S. not a single person has asked permission to access my land. I am using cameras now, after damage started to happen.
We have some yahoos from out of state that bought some land ( 5 acres) and didnt want anybody near their piece of heaven. They decided to block a public road and gate it up. Needless to say enough locals complained of the road they've used forever was gated and the state made them take it down. But I understand people crossing private land and trashing it. That is wrong for sure and no ody owing land would want that
I have gated some of my property, and it's a pain to have to get out and open the gate when I want in just because of some inconsiderate jerks. I have a circle drive way at the home place and had to block off one entrance and close off half of the other because when people came in to turn around, they wouldn't go slowly, but were throwing rocks and tearing up the place when it was wet.
To be fair, the planet is said to have been here for billions of years before humans arrived...so with that said, how can any human say that they own a piece of something that existed billions of years before they did lol.
My dad put NO Trespassing signs and the pheasant hunters ignored the sign. Off season they would run their dogs and never ask. F&G were worthless, 'by the time they would get there, they would be gone'. The trespassers were there for hours.
If the road wasn't marked as private then I would cut them some slack and give a warning. It's possible that maybe they didnt know they were on private land. But If there were plenty of signs marking that road as private? Then I understand the frustration with these people.
When I was a teenager, I rode dirt bikes all over the woods near my house and never really considered who might own the land. I ignored "No Trespassing" signs, thinking that only applied to hunters, and I wasn't hunting so I should be fine. I probably pissed off a lot more landowners than I ever knew at the time.
Too bad your parents can't be held accountable for raising you wrong. It's hard to hold you accountable when the people who are responsible to raise you don't teach you the right way. Me too I rode all over every field that was near my house never really gave it thought only one incident that I upset some one when I leveled there hay field they cut I just didn’t ride that field no more it wasn’t as bad back then folks didn’t mind you riding dirt bikes and four wheelers but those side by sides are very destructive to land I have one just riding it slow even will tear up a yard and giving one hell will rut the hell out out of one with a little rain those ruts become impassible so I do get it if a man don’t want you on his property also if you get hurt the land is liable
Had some people (not young) riding on my farm. They would get in the low spots and just rip the ground up. Sheriff wouldn’t do anything so I caught them one day and they didn’t want to talk. As they started running from me I fired shots about 15 feet to their right side throwing dirt in the air. I haven’t had a problem since then.😂😂😂😂🤬🤬🤬🤬

We had a horse stables of 60 stalls, so you can imagine the land that went along with it. It was prime deer country for sure. Every year poachers would sneak in and try to take our deer. I would take 'bird' arrows (hard rubber ball tips) and wait till they were all comfy in their stands and then light them up with a 150 lb recurve (dinosaur days). I especially liked to wait until they were looking through their expensive scopes and WHAM! scope-no-more. Then I'd yell "NEXT ONE'S A BROADHEAD!" and hunker down in my full ghilli. Oh, did they scramble to get down. :D I feel for ya. You were WAY too nice.

Private road should be gated and marked private road. Repeatedly marked on the road would give you a better leg to stand on. Your word, saying your the owner carries little weight. Your property should be posted!
In Texas all it takes is painting your fence posts purple. And if you move here you had best learn the customs because this is NOT California. Trespassing is a very serious offense and if you have livestock, there are additional charges. I recommend not trespassing or opening locked gates. If the gate is not locked and there is not a sign, you need to open it, drive through and then close it. And that's no guarantee you won't get locked in. Even the hippies in Texas take these things seriously. And Texas hippies out in the sticks are likely to be strapped. Even the Women. The petite ones will shoot you soon as look at you. But don't take MY word for it.

When I was coming up there was private property but 99.9% of it was fenced or had clear indications that it was private property and they did not want vehicles. Yeah, might want to put up better no trespassing signs that road or trail looks like a Thruway to me. looks to me like there’s enough people using it. I have up good no trespassing signs and the road is gated. The reason it looks well traveled is because I spend a lot of time maintaining the road and you are right most of them probably do have land of their own but instead they rather someone else's land up.
I wouldn't confront anyone, it invites retribution, vandalism or worse. I'd just put up a locked Forest Service type gate, a gate that can't be breached, with lots of posted signs. One day access/ next day closed.The message will be sent.
Already have posted signs and a big gate that cant be breached. They just make new trails around it the best way to stop all of it is to confront them and let them know you're not playing any games if not they will just keep doing what they want

The entitled people in todays world. Every deer hunt season my fences and gates get knocked down and 30 people think they own my property. They dig up the roads, they leave their trash and they just do not care. I am going to booty trap stuff next year. You drive on my property your goona lose to truck.

Dont know how it is in your state.....but any road except driveways in my state is a public right of way no matter if it goes through a private property or not. If that is the only road for them to get to the property they need to get to then it doesnt matter if the road runs through private property or not. In other words.....if there is public land they need to get to and the road getting there runs through private property then the land owner CANNOT deny them access to the public land but they MUST stay on the roadway only
Everything is private land around my land none of it is public. The road is gated and isn't open to the public. They are just trespassing and dont care. It's different here in Alabama.
It sounds like you need to post ALOT more signs. People will ALWAYS claim ignorance and act like it was an mistake. But without ALOT of CLEARLY posted signs on every road, trail and fence-line, you will end up looking as if you are giving mis-leading, vague permission for use, which they will then --again USE. Post signs, alot of them and camera's with gates, or highly visible chains.

The problem with that song/statement is that there are people out there who litter, tear up the roads, have out of control fires, steal, rob, hurt others and the list goes on. That's why there are signs. 1 bad apple will ruin the whole bunch. If people had more respect for 1 another we wouldn't need to put those damn signs up.
