Have you ever thought of smoking a tri-tip just like a brisket? No? Well, you may just want to give it a try.
When it comes to smoked meats, there is one that most would consider The King of Meats. That’s right, I’m talking about the brisket. The tasty bark, the pencil thin slices, the smoky flavor, it’s a favorite wherever you go. What if I told you that you could achieve the same result for much less money and much, much less time? You would be interested, wouldn’t you?
Well, this is the one for you. We took a beautiful tri-tip from our friends at Porter Road and smoked it just like you’d smoke a brisket. Have you ever even heard of such a thing? Well, our results were remarkably interesting to say the least. Not only that, but we went way out there and used mayo as our binder. If you are wondering how, it turned out, follow the link, and enjoy the video. The results may very well surprise you! We enjoyed this cook very much and hope that you do to. When you watch the video, do not forget to subscribe to the RU-vid channel, leave a comment and click on the bell to receive notifications of when we release the next video. Smoke on, get out and grill and thank you for living The FOGO Life!

Ron, love finding all the videos! Tri-tip is one cut I have yet to play with, but I think I need to! Funny story with the mayo... I've been using as a binder for a long time! I have my parents over for steak night last year, and Dad sees me coating the steak with mayo and flips because "I just ruined dinner". He didn't realize the last 3 times I made him steaks that "are phenomenal" in his words, this was what was done🤣🤣 I poured him some wine and advised him to sit and relax!
@FOGOcharcoal
@FOGOcharcoal 2 года назад
Haha, now that was a great story! Funny how people rush to judge what they don't know. My Dad actually looked at me like I was nuts the first time he saw me do that. These days he is a bit quicker to not judge what I am cooking though.

Do you mean the plate setter aka ConvEGGtor? If so, yes, the tri-tip is cooked indirectly; same method as brisket. @@twonowaks

Ive done a couple tri tips on my smoker but usually use olive oil... might have to try mayonayse. Also skeptical about making a tri tip well done but im intrigued and might have to try it... I have an electric smoker though so would that change much? Also found this video while trying to research smoking a brisket. tomorrow will be my first brisket.
@FOGOcharcoal
@FOGOcharcoal 3 года назад
Hey there, sorry it took so long to get back to you. Olive oil also makes a great binder. How did the brisket turn out? No, using an electric smoker should not change the process much at all.

What’s best to use for a spritz? I have heard of apple juice and sprite mixed or apple cider vinegar and water. What is your recommendation? I plan on smoking a brisket style tri-tip this weekend.
@FOGOcharcoal
@FOGOcharcoal 2 года назад
That's great, I'm sure you'll love it! As far as the spritz, thats a matter of preference. Some use beef broth, some cider vinegar, some apple cider etc. Heck, some combine them all!

Do you think the mayo ended up being a downfall? It looks like it caused a lot of your seasoning to run off and prevent a better bark.

Nah, I have done the mayo thing tons of times. Maybe it just wasn't my day! lol

@@FOGOcharcoal I just made this tri-tip for my buddy's birthday. I had to endure how this wasn't going to work while finishing the cook because, reasons. We love him anyway. I had your temps and intervals written down along with FOGO so he and my wife started talking about it. My wife is Portuguese so... yeah I felt silly and she set me straight on the translation. Perhaps it was the all caps, just a letter off FOMO or my old man brain forgetting eating at Fogo De Chao. BTW the tri-tip came out juicy and amazing.
